  1. You want the moves like Jagex / I've got the moves like Jagex / I've got the mooooooves... like Jagex...
  2. I often use my ThinkPad to play RuneScape. It's a pretty old machine, but it has always been able to run the game without problems. However, the game became a little choppy a few weeks ago, even though I've always used the least CPU-intensive graphics settings. Does anyone know if the system requirements went up recently?
  3. The rscheata.net domain has been transferred to Jagex: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/rscheata.net The other two are still registered under the Snellman brothers, though.
  4. I know that members-only rewards are not supposed to expire if an F2P user gets them. Right now, I have a medium lamp that I can't claim. However, it's been over 24 hours since my last spin, and I don't see an option to spin again. Do I have to discard the current item before I could do so?
  5. Ever since the redesign, the RuneScape website has been showing the timestamp of news entries as "X days/weeks/months/years ago" instead of an actual date. Is there an option to make the website display a date instead? I know it's possible to grab the dates from the unofficial RuneScape wiki, but it's still kind of a hassle.
  6. Silly question, but will members items expire after some time? For example, if I win a godsword while in F2P, can I claim it at a later date, or will the offer expire if I don't subscribe within a certain time?
  7. An update: it looks like http://rscheata.net, http://oembots.com and http://impsoft.net have now been shut down. The folks at RSCA did create a new website at http://rscheata.us, but it will merely be a gaming forum, not a botting site. In any case, I hope Jagex starts going after gold farmers next. :D Edit: another well-known botting site, http://rsbots.net, now returns a blank page. It's not one of the sites named in the lawsuit, but I guess they also decided to shut down to prevent legal problems. IMO, a lawsuit is far more effective than any technical means of stopping botting.
  8. Don't forget that even civil cases have an appeals process. Let's hope the bot makers won't appeal and get the ruling reversed.
  9. A lot of people say that international lawsuits are difficult to win, but Jagex has proven otherwise. Great job to their legal team. :D I must acknowledge that they've earned back some of the respect I had lost for them over the removal of the F2P hiscores.
  10. From what I remember, dueling always gave XP. Was this changed recently?
  11. Whoa, who is that lady in Askthedude's picture?
  12. Those who use Facebook (I'd assume that's most of you) are probably aware of Zynga's many games, such as FarmVille, Mafia Wars and and CityVille. Zynga's revenue model is very different than that of Jagex: instead of charging a monthly fee, it lets players access most of its games' main content. However, players can spend premium in-game currency to buy enhancements and exclusive equipment, etc. Consider Mafia Wars, for example. The game's premium currency is Reward Points, which can be used to reset wait timers, refill energy, skip parts of quests and do many other things. Reward Points are given to players when they reach an even-numbered level, and they are occasionally obtained by opening Mystery Bags or doing surveys, but the absolute quickest way of obtaining them is to spend real money. This made me think: what if Jagex did something like this? Suppose that every player is allowed explore RuneScape in its entirety, but has the option to spend a premium currency, such as on the follwing: Bring dead crops back to life and/or make them grow instantly Cut the wait for doing a D&D activity GP and resources (food, potions, raw materials, etc.) Skip parts of quests (not everything, because that would take away the fun) Exclusive POH furniture, pets, emotes, equipment, etc. Make pets mature instantly Unlock abilities without having to reach the required level Assume that the currency can occasionally be obtained for free. How do you think it will affect players in general? The economy? RuneScape as a whole? Personally, I think it would depend on how such a system is implemented. If Jagex suddenly switches to this model, I imagine that most players will be very upset about being able to simply "buy one's way" to the top. It would be very unfair if someone is able to unlock the ability to smith rune plates at, say, level 25 smithing, just because they paid real money. This would probably also throw the economy into chaos. It would also offer an unfair advantage in PK'ing. Imagine a level 3 player casting fire surge! (Although this can be solved by excluding combat spells from early unlocking.) On the other hand, if RuneScape started out like this on day 1 (so that players are used to it), then I think it may bring in more revenue for Jagex. For example, someone who frequently buys "special" features in Mafia Wars is likely to spend more than the $5.95/month that Jagex is asking, especially because it could cut down on grinding. I think it would be too late for Jagex to switch to this model, in the unlikely event that they ever decide to do so. However, it may come in handy for a future game. Thoughts?
  13. I hate to say this, but I'm a bit skeptical about this as well. I just did a search, and no major news sources have mentioned any sort of cure.
  14. On the "Community Site" page. The link is part way down the right side. How stupid. It took a bit for me to find it as well. I liked it much more when news updates were on the main page. The news posts are back on the main page.
  15. Did I just read a eulogy for RuneScape?
  16. I was originally planning to buy a month of membership (or two) for the holiday season. However, seeing that Jagex has just decided to screw F2P over, I've decided that my money will now go to charity instead.
  17. One idea of a workaround would be to write a reflection-like program that reads a player's stats (such as by extracting it from the computer's memory) and submits them to a third-party hiscore server. This wouldn't be against the rules because such a program would not facilitate cheating - it merely collects data in the background and does not interact with the game in any way. If several million players are willing to use bots - which are against Jagex's rules - then I'm sure a larger number of players would be willing to use a legitimate program that does nothing but grab stats. If Tip.It does something like this, it could generate a lot of traffic.
  18. You should post that comic on DeviantArt so I could "favorite" it!
