I can probably try after I've finished my current project... IE in a week or two.

I agree with this, but I'm not sure if it can be done.

I don't think so. Racial profiling is essentially picking out people based on statistical likelihood. There is a reason to discriminate so it's not just based on the fact that you're a different race. It's the same thing as saying blacks are more likely to commit a crime in America. Statistically, it's true, and there doesn't have to be any racist undertones to that. Having said that, I'm not surprised that people would look though the logic of that argument and feel (emotionally) that it's racist anyway. And to make myself clear, I'm not saying that racial profiling is an accurate and appropriate method of airport security. It's a very blunt way of doing things, to say the least. I read something about this recently. Specifically, it was a TSA document that was badly redacted and then released due to the freedom of information act, someone downloaded it, replaced the redaction with red outlines, and it was generally pretty embarrassing to the TSA. There was a list of nationalities that they take aside and screen specifically. I'm not sure of the legality of linking directly to the file, so if you want to read the document (A very interesting read) go here and click on the link to the file.

Can't wait to see it colored. :)

Hold your horses. You can't play RS HD if you don't have the right stuff to play it with. You're jumping to conclusions. I've played RS HD quite a bit on Ubuntu. I used this guide to set it up: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5499744&postcount=8

Booting it from the CD would make it slower, and you wouldn't be able to play RuneScape.

You're looking for trouble. :) Try to keep this specific to Linux, not any OS, and even then it'll turn into a flame war. Linux is not an actual operating system, it is the very core of an operating system. It is unusable without putting software around it to make it useful. There are several communities and companies that do that, the result is an actual operating system and is called a distribution (Or "distro" for short. One example, the most popular in terms of number of users, is Ubuntu, which I would personally recommend, especially if you are thinking of playing RuneScape on it. I just wanted to clear up that about distributions before we started. Yeah, I've used both Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Linux (A few different distros, mostly Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora) extensively, and personally I come out on the side of Linux. No matter how much slander those "Get a Mac" ads place on Windows, they are right about one thing: Windows can be a real headache. Linux is disposable; If something breaks and you can't fix it, you can reinstall it with no worry. There's also a huge selection of software for Linux, especially Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora/OpenSUSE, one command on the command line and you have that program. Linux does not require an antivirus, because few viruses exist for Linux, and it has been built from the ground up with security in mind. On the other hand, not all Windows programs work on Linux, (You can run ~80% of them through a program called WINE) and you will probably find yourself using the command line a lot. I wouldn't think of the command line as a downside, personally, but it's very foreign to a Windows user. Check out these websites of different distros: Ubuntu (Works well for beginners, has a huge selection of software for installation in a few clicks) OpenSUSE (User-friendly, probably good for beginners too I haven't tried it) Linux Mint (Aims for ease of use and little setup after installation, based on Ubuntu) Fedora (Aimed at slightly more advanced users, also has a large software selection) Debian (For more advanced users, but some consider it to be less "bloated" or something than Ubuntu) Mandriva (Also aims for ease of use, I don't know about a lot about it) All of them are of course free.

I know you're using Holland to make a point and mean that not all airports have the same security standards as in America, but I must note that I have found Amsterdam Schiphol to have the highest security of any airport I've been to. (Except maybe for London Heathrow in 2002, when pairs of security guards walked around with guns across their back, if I had to guess what they were I would say M16s but I don't know anything about guns. Then there was someone that patted down people on the airbridge.) I mean, we went through security twice even after going through security at the airport before, then we couldn't exit the lounge connected to the airbridge. Then everyone that was going on the plane was interviewed.

Personally I take the approach of optimization and web standards from the ground up. Surprisingly enough it's very easy to write standards compliant code if you just follow the obvious stuff (Don't make tag soup, end your tags, don't use old tags, encode your special characters). You've got only one error on validator.w3.org, I congratulate you. Just a simple change. Two things about that though: First <!DOCTYPE html> :shame: Replace it with <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> Second you have not defined the character encoding. Put this in your <head> tag. <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html;charset=windows-1252"> But otherwise you've done a good job on this and I'm nitpicking.

^ Yeah I thought of that too when I saw this. This is ridiculous. I'm all for security and everything but sooner or later "security" will be a violation of our freedoms at this rate. Rick's post also gets my vote.

I like it. I'm not sure what else to say, it works.

Navyplaya's Mostly Photo Gallery- Updated 6/13/12
dsavi replied to navyplaya's topic in Art and Media
You're back! The one of the girl standing by the fence and the bonfire one are really good. Love the colors. -
Ehh, icons are overused these days. It's hard to get it right when it's so easy to get it wrong. Your page took a good 10 seconds to load, I understand it's from a "free" host but try to optimize your page so that it loads in ~5 seconds with a clean cache.

Seriously, that bballer kid is a noob. +1 :P Nice setup you've got there. And of course obligatory for college: Ramen noodles.

I can imagine that stung pretty badly for a bit, but I think getting stitches for that is a bit overkill. And lol @ Poke :P

You're certainly onto something with that design but the typography is lacking. You have it set to Arial, which is OK, but either you're not using it very well or you shouldn't be using it. I can't really decide. The "Design Services" logo text is fine, but good luck complementing it with typography. Try Trebuchet MS. The footer feels a bit random and isn't put to any use. The header has too much contrast relative to the rest of the body; It's distracting. Can you post the CSS? I have this feeling you use transparent PNGs for those boxes. :shame:

After effects is not necessary, you know. :P
-
It is either a bug in Google Chrome, or a bug in the server causing it to print text with the wrong encoding maybe? As long as this doesn't happen all the time though, I'm sure you're fine.
-
Either it would take a huge amount of work, or it would look like junk. That's usually how it works.
-
I think it's a bit early for that yet. Your first problem is probably focus. Are you sure you have it on autofocus? Press the shutter halfway and wait for it to indicate that it has focused before shooting. Then keep the camera as still as possible while it shoots. Your second problem is composition. Make use of the rule of thirds, diagonal lines, horizontal or vertical lines, guiding lines, the golden spiral, etc. The third is colors. Warm, cold, saturated, grayscale, smooth or grainy. These are all tools to be used as you wish, in combination with each other or on their own. Later you'll learn to break those rules.

Hey, you're back. It does look good, but the problem is that you did not use the text to create the contours and shapes of the car. Having it constantly horizontal strikes me as pretty, well, boring. Otherwise it works very well.
-
It doesn't seem to have any sort of flow; The shape in the middle just looks random and out of place. I hope you know what I mean by flow. It could be described as a path for the eye to move on while looking at an image. These have flow: Flow is usually in a certain direction. In the first signature (By Soa), the flow is pretty clearly illustrated by the horizontal line. The flow is from left to right. In the second sig, also by Soa, the flow is from the top left to lower right or vice-versa- Flow can be bidirectional. In the last sig, by Thruitall, it is kind of difficult to clearly make out the direction of flow but I would say it goes from the middle right to the upper left. Hope this helps.

Not specifically the end of the thread, but just below the bottom of the last post on every page. & You're welcome. :)

You can't do that apparently.

The thread search box is at the bottom of the thread now.
