  1. Like 15 hours in Blender 3D. Textures from NASA visible Earth. This is a WIP, I'm working on larger stars. I've got the small stars done, pretty much. C/C? *dies*
  2. We had a really good one ages ago, I can't find it (Possibly lost in the rollback) but I still have the outcome: It was fun :)
  3. You have just insulted my favorite music, ever. Listen to the two songs I posted, look me in the proverbial eye and tell me that you don't like any new form of orchestrated music. How is it possible? I just can't take it as a real form of music. Its just so bland and distasteful when it comes to composition and interesting qualities about the music. Yeah, it sounds beautiful to the ear while watching a movie, but why is it beautiful? Its beautiful because you made it something worth remembering as your eyes and ears are synchronizing with what you see on the big screen and registering it with the music. However when I listen to the music by myself with out the outrageous visuals I find the music repetitive with the same type of opening, climaxes, and resolutions. Sorry bro. :/ That's pretty much my opinion on old classical music. (Minus that about the visuals) I find it extremely repetitive.
  4. You mean, THIS http://forum.tip.it/topic/245618-real-life-help-advice/ A BRANCH NOT A TOPIC *pounds table with coffee mug* Like a subforum Oh true!?! You should float the idea in the forum suggestions and idea forum/branch/thing. I think we've been there before. Let's not go back.
  5. To anyone who has strong opinions on global warming. I've said this other places before; whether global warming exists or not we have an energy problem now. If we can move to clean energy, we can stop global warming, again whether it exists or not. So why not instead of wasting time debating over a problem that has an amount of unsureness, try to solve a problem that undoubtedly exists and will fix the other problem? Two birds with one stone. No, three birds. Our energy problem, global warming, and meaningless debate.

  7. Yes, I get that. However:
  8. You obviously didn't "get" the analogy. It was never about going jobless or even about going with "stuff". It was about enjoying life (coffee) and not worrying about the much less meaninful things that are in your life (the cup). People in the story chose only the best cups, whereas they all just wanted the coffee so why did the cup matter? You don't seem to get what I mean. How can you enjoy the coffee if you don't have a cup?
  9. Really, I watched the "Sixth sense" thing a while ago, but it's so early in development that it looks like junk. This means that either: a) It is early in development, and the real versions won't be impractical, look stupid, and take forever to load or b ) It will fizzle out and die, because it won't be developed further enough. I'm thinking that option b will happen.

I tried the "Noob to pro" thing back when I didn't know anything about Blender... To be honest I wouldn't recommend it. You end up being so confused about the interface, because the explanation of it there is like 5 pages long. If you can learn how to use the interface and get the basic terminology down (Mesh, polygon, face, edge, vertex, diffuse color, specular color, raytrace, reflection, refraction, UV map, modifier, constraint, compositing/texture/material nodes- Those are good to start with) you're pretty much in business.
  11. I find pretty much all classical music from the 1900s and earlier to be incredibly boring. Modern classical, however- That's a different story entirely. Some of my favorite composers: Thomas Newman - My absolute favorite, this guy's my sonic hero John Powell Joby Talbot Jan Morgenstern James Newton Howard Patrick Doyle Nicholas Hooper Danny Elfman Hans Zimmer George Gershwin Kevin MacLeod Don Davis If you know much about modern classical, you've probably noticed one thing in common- Nearly all of them are soundtrack composers. Thomas Newman composed the soundtrack for WALLE (The soundtrack that got me into classical, which remains my favorite to this day), the Green Mile, Revolutionary road, Finding Nemo etc. James Newton Howard composed the soundtrack to I am Legend, Patrick Doyle the soundtrack of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Jan Morgenstern the soundtrack of Elephants Dream, Big Buck Bunny, and soon Sintel. So yeah. I like classical music. Here are some examples:
  12. To be honest those options are really stupid. Especially "King geek" and "What's a PC?". :| Refine the options a bit (Or a lot) and PM a mod to get a proper poll if they decide it's in order.

    Hi

I probably could have guessed that anyway. And lrn2english. :D E: Oh, and happy birthday and everything. Didn't notice that until I was going to leave the thread. :P
  14. That analogy was really corny and didn't even make sense. How can you be happy if you don't have a job to not pay for the food you eat? Maybe Lenin's low-quality cup analogy applies there.
  15. Wtf? I know it's just some image to be funny, but I was just telling you that to get you out of the confusion :???: Yeah I know. I just had to post the related xkcd.

I suggest you just download a late build and mess around with it for like 10 minutes. :P

It doesn't really sound to me like you've used Blender, not the alpha version anyway. (They've completely redone the interface)
  18. Small correction; Your parents are paying for 8mbits/s, not 8mb/s. 8 bits in a byte, so 8mbits/8 = 1mb/s is what you should be getting. So really you're seeing better performance than what you're paying for. Or at least that's what it looks like; I often find Speedtest.net results to be very inconsistent with reality. And also I'm no expert on the matter. I would like to emphasize this; We pay for a 24mbit connection but due to our ISP's wiring in our area we only can get speeds up to ~8mbits. Really annoying. No, it's not me that's paying, otherwise I would downgrade to 8mbits.
  19. Yup, 8 mega pixels. And I beg to differ :P You've seen my brick of a camera. I agree with the others, the Starfish is the best. What kind of camera do you have? I have a Canon Powershot A720 IS http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-a720-is/4505-6501_7-32471270.html It's irritating because people see my camera and just automaticallly think it's bad (even myself sometimes) because it's not one of those big black fancy cameras. Honestly, it's pretty good for what I got it for. I think around.. $100NZD in Hong Kong. Or maybe it was $300, I forget. The problem is that I'm more interested in shooting long exposure pictures, but I don't have a tripod and longest shutter speed on my camera is 15" My sister has the exact same camera, I can safely tell you it's junk. :) But it was the best compact camera I could find for her in that price range, so it's not too bad. See, the quality difference between compact cameras and DSLRs is always substantial. Most settings are automatic, and the manual settings (If any) are buried deep within the interface.
  20. You using Photoshop? Make a text layer, type in the text/Change the font. CTRL+Click on the layer in the layers palette. GIMP: Make a text layer, type in text/change font, right click on the layer in the layers palette and select "Text to selection". Both should have exactly the same effect. Oh wait, didn't see it was answered already. Oh well, it's another way to do it.
  21. I'm not really sure I like it. The links at the top look like a broken navbar, and it seems to waste a lot of space. Try putting the links on one line- That multiple line setup just doesn't do it for me, it looks sloppy. Also the layout of where I assume images from your gallery will be: Try making it 3x2 instead of 4x3. (You'll want to make your main width slightly bigger, to 960, to make a 3x2 layout possible. 820 doesn't divide by 3.) You're stuffing too much information onto one page, let the user focus on a few images that define your style. Lightbox works fine but I'm not a fan of modal layouts like that at all. It may seem to put the user's attention to the picture they clicked on, but even if it does, it pulls the user there and then there's distracting stuff around the image. I would go for a gallery, possibly written using Jquery, that displays the thumbnails on the same page that it displays the focused image. Then the user knows what image will be displayed next, instead of going back and forth trying to find the image they want. I wrote the beginning of something like that (It doesn't display any thumbnails on the page but it shouldn't be too difficult to do) and a preview of it is here. It's GPL licensed, if you want to use it I should probably rewrite the comments in English. :P

You should try out Blender. I would recommend using the unstable version if you're just playing around and not using it for serious work. You can find the latest builds of the unstable version here.

That's kind of disturbing but yeah the result looks pretty good. Isn't Zbrush more for sculpting though?
