  1. I actually think that the phpBB3 ones were an improvement over the phpBB2 ones.
  2. Personally I wouldn't run Vista with under 2GB of RAM.
  3. PHP is not a plugin, it is a preprocessor that runs on webservers. Freewebs is absolutely terrible when it comes to features, as I've found.
  4. I don't have the money for an upgrade, and it would be of little use to me to do so anyway; Ubuntu is my main operating system. I haven't used Windows on my own computer since May.
  5. I don't like the new emoticons either, they look round and pretty dumb.
  6. I love the new medals, they look awesome. London 2012's logo however... Eww.
  7. Wait what Rick a moderator? Now this will be weird.
  8. IPB is designed to sense mobile browsers and automatically switch to Lo-fi, but apparently it doesn't always work now does it. I had thought of making the tabs at the top sortable and being able to collapse forums into a much shorter height, but I hadn't thought of being able to sort forums, that's a great idea. It could be difficult to implement, but it's worth it if I can do it IMO.
  9. This is very imaginative and creative, and the rhythm and flow of the story was very good. The details seem well thought out, natural and realistic (Like "Believe me when I say that it was a long time before I could put pen to paper, and I began by colouring entire pages black") and really add to the story. To me, addressing the reader seems right. Although the ending isn't some great revelation, I personally did not expect that in such a short time. It would be interesting if you wrote more of these, revealing the personality of each successive inhabitant of The Room and their decisions. Best short story I've read in a long while.
  10. I've read otherwise. And their advertisements are full of crap anyway.
  11. I can barely resist the urge to be gloating and sarcastic. Their advertisements are nearly enough to drive me absolutely insane, with their "I want a computer without any headaches and viruses" crap. I think this counts as a headache and as you might know, they included a virus scanner in Mac OS X Snow leopard. In fact they've been doing that for years, but this is the first time they put it in a home version instead of just the server version. Whoops, looks like I gave in to temptation.

I admit I kind of like my postcount, it's cool to have high numbers and an awesome-sounding rank on my profile. It would be funny to get an option to hide your postcount (I believe there's such a feature on vBulletin? Don't remember.) and have all the people with like 5k+ postcounts go around for a while, see what happens.
  13. That horrible padding is one thing I intend to fix in any of my skins. And so much space is wasted with the forum category titles, when you minimize forum categories it adds up to like 400 pixels if you have like 5 minimized.
  14. What on earth is "St. John's Ambulance"? That just sounds weird.
  15. You need to have the image saved as speechbubble.png in the same directory as your CSS file.
  16. No, the background image is defined in the CSS.
  17. So I'm guessing the current one shown there is just shopped in or something? Well, there is a way of making a triangle with CSS so that no images would be involved, and fancy ways of making rounded corners... But in this case I think it's unnecessary. Just make a div, give it a CSS background property, and put text in it. Something like this: <!-- Assume you have the html declaration and head as well as the content above your bubble up here --> <div class="bubble"><p>Wongtong has a lot of sciencey things to say right here.</p></div> <!-- Content below goes here --> And then some CSS: .bubble { background: transparent url('speechbubble.png') no-repeat scroll 0 0; width: /*Width of your image in pixels*/ ; height: /*Height of your image in pixels*/ ; } .bubble p { padding: /*Enough padding to give the text some breathing room*/ ; }
  18. The truth is, it is very 2006. Apple had even more design influence than it does now back then, and take a look at their site as it looked in 2006. Lately, a very sensible design mode has started to go a lot towards smooth, or even almost grungy design which works very well and doesn't look half as cheesy (Although I admit that Apple managed to pull the glossy look off better than about 95% of anyone else who tried). As for TIFBlack, I think it's about time to move on and do something new. This theme will be dark, but it might not be the TIFBlack you remember, and I plan to not even reuse the name.
  19. Hey it's Juhniz. :P 10
  20. I'd like to hear what people have to say about the Deflection skin, what they like/don't like in the comments on my blog[/shameless advertisement]. I agree it's an OK skin for now, but in the long run I would go crazy.
  21. Interesting decision. I'm not exactly sure as to why he received it though.
  22. A new dark theme for TIF What's the deal here? Since TIF was converted to Invision Power Board 3, there have been some problems with styling: Particularly, the lack of good, high quality themes. Especially in the dark themes department. So what's wrong with "Deflection"? Deflection is slightly inconsistent, but much more than that, badly designed. It follows the idea of a glossy look, which gives it a plastic, 2006ish feeling. The color choices are no less than odd; Dark shades of gray, green, blue, and orange do not work well together and add to the aforementioned inconsistency. Then there's some problems with usability: For example, when you try to forum jump, you must click the "Go" button to actually go. If you minimize a forum, it still takes about 40 pixels of space, not counting the margins above and below it. Just small things; But small things add up. One of the reasons I use Ubuntu is because it's full of nice things that smooth over the whole process of using an operating system. For example, you can scroll in a window that's not focused. Again small things, but they add up to make a smooth, practical, but most of all logical user experience. I know that a lot of people were fans of TIFBlack; That's very cool and I'm glad to have made some sort of contribution to TIF. With this new theme, though, I'd like to do something far better: A theme that's customized to the wants and needs of the average TIF user, not what somebody at IPBforumSkins.com thought that people should have. Post your ideas away, whether they're crazy or not, I'd like to hear them. tl;dr: The theme "Deflection" sucks; I'm going to make a better one; I want your ideas for it. [x]
  23. Wait a second... You're saying that it's short, so we should lower it? And if you don't hate it, why do you want it to be changed? Can you rewrite or reformulate your post? (FYI it was 60 seconds on the old forum)

Yeah, the attempted glossyness is really overkill, everything looks like plastic, especially in this bad excuse for a dark skin. (Racism! :o ) Yes, I can change pretty much anything when it comes to how it actually looks. Some of the font sizes, choices and placement are pretty weird and impractical. Unrelated: I like the fact that you can change the font within an individual post, although it doesn't let me choose everything. 21 pixel Georgia Bold Oblique

Is there anything that anyone likes/doesn't like about the forum that has to do with the usability of the skins and not the actual functionality of the forum? It would be interesting to make a skin that TIF likes and not one that somebody else thinks is best. Before you answer: If it has something to do with, for example, some feature of the actual forum (Like, say, friend requests) then I can't change that. If you, say, didn't like the fact that when you forum jump that you have to press the "Go" button- I can change that.
