  1. Well, seeing as I ran three pre-2006 games on Vista when I used it I'm guessing so. And then there's this Windows XP compatibility mode thing which I don't know a lot about, but that could probably help you.
  2. It could be that it just effects variables of type int and long, and the CPU addresses RAM up to 2^64 (Since there's no negative value needed for RAM.) Here's an example of what I mean: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem
  3. Technically, it's 2^63, the last bit is used to determine whether a number is positive or negative.
  4. Is it really slower for you? Mine boots in like 30 seconds.
  5. This is quite awesome. It's so smooth, the new boot theme is amazing. I saw the mockups, but seeing it in reality with animation is amazing.
  6. Yeah, I stopped downloading from the Finnish server (Because even it was lagging lol) and decided to torrent it instead. What I'd do if I were you is torrent the CD ISO, burn the CD, insert the CD and upgrade from the CD. (Insert the CD while Ubuntu is booted and you're logged in and a "Do you want to upgrade" kind of thing should come up)
  7. I'm backing up right now.
  8. I agree about logging in on the index- But the navigation bar at the bottom of the page is very subsilver and I don't like that.
  9. That'll be the desktop effects. They're irresistible on any operating system.
  10. I'm really looking forward to Karmic; 24 hours is an eternity. That about switching to 64-bit: My only reason for staying with 32-bit is really flash player. Although there is Gnash, it's nowhere near as good and even Adobe's flash player for Linux is indeed poorly put together. Just yesterday I found a site whose flash did not work on Ubuntu (Jaunty), my brother was using it on Windows and it worked fine. Adobe has so far failed to impress me with their operating system support in general. The UI of Windows 7 is pretty much what KDE4.3 is. Looking at a screencast of 7 reminded me of all kinds of desktop effects that KDE already has and the few that were original will be duplicated very, very soon. Intuitive but easy to cross-implement. This made an interesting read, I'm not too interested in people's RS blogs. :P
  11. 60K is the default limit for phpBB3 but the admins took it off almost as soon as phpBB3 was up.
  12. I actually think that the phpBB3 ones were an improvement over the phpBB2 ones.
  13. Personally I wouldn't run Vista with under 2GB of RAM.
  14. PHP is not a plugin, it is a preprocessor that runs on webservers. Freewebs is absolutely terrible when it comes to features, as I've found.
  15. I don't have the money for an upgrade, and it would be of little use to me to do so anyway; Ubuntu is my main operating system. I haven't used Windows on my own computer since May.
  16. I don't like the new emoticons either, they look round and pretty dumb.
  17. I love the new medals, they look awesome. London 2012's logo however... Eww.
  18. IPB is designed to sense mobile browsers and automatically switch to Lo-fi, but apparently it doesn't always work now does it. I had thought of making the tabs at the top sortable and being able to collapse forums into a much shorter height, but I hadn't thought of being able to sort forums, that's a great idea. It could be difficult to implement, but it's worth it if I can do it IMO.
  19. This is very imaginative and creative, and the rhythm and flow of the story was very good. The details seem well thought out, natural and realistic (Like "Believe me when I say that it was a long time before I could put pen to paper, and I began by colouring entire pages black") and really add to the story. To me, addressing the reader seems right. Although the ending isn't some great revelation, I personally did not expect that in such a short time. It would be interesting if you wrote more of these, revealing the personality of each successive inhabitant of The Room and their decisions. Best short story I've read in a long while.
  20. I've read otherwise. And their advertisements are full of crap anyway.
  21. I can barely resist the urge to be gloating and sarcastic. Their advertisements are nearly enough to drive me absolutely insane, with their "I want a computer without any headaches and viruses" crap. I think this counts as a headache and as you might know, they included a virus scanner in Mac OS X Snow leopard. In fact they've been doing that for years, but this is the first time they put it in a home version instead of just the server version. Whoops, looks like I gave in to temptation.

    Post counts

I admit I kind of like my postcount, it's cool to have high numbers and an awesome-sounding rank on my profile. It would be funny to get an option to hide your postcount (I believe there's such a feature on vBulletin? Don't remember.) and have all the people with like 5k+ postcounts go around for a while, see what happens.
  23. That horrible padding is one thing I intend to fix in any of my skins. And so much space is wasted with the forum category titles, when you minimize forum categories it adds up to like 400 pixels if you have like 5 minimized.
  24. What on earth is "St. John's Ambulance"? That just sounds weird.
