  1. Of course you don't want to give away your real signature that you use for legal things here. You should probably just stick with descriptions. So I'm having a problem coming up with a signature (For legal use). I really don't know where to start. Where did you come up with yours? Any ideas as to how I could come up with one? I used to use one that was really horrible, I made it up when I was like 10. Need to come up with a signature for my passport, so obviously if someone posts an idea I like I won't go shouting about it. Help is appreciated. I'm sure there's a lot of discussion to be had here too of course.

    Thanks!

Yeah the content is really what made it look good at all in the end. I was really annoyed with the design until I put in content.

    Thanks!

The images in the first post are the "final" ones that I submitted. Waiting for the judging to begin/end/commence/whatever.
  4. dsavi

    Thanks!

Yeah the colors are weird because they're actually print colors. They probably need to be darkened and desaturated to compensate for that. The tabs are weird too, I'm sending it in today (Deadline) so maybe I'll get a chance to fix them. Gonna hopefully work on it all day at school.

    Thanks!

New version is up. I know, a double-post bump but I need feedback.
  6. dsavi

    Thanks!

Yeah that gradient was definitely a "Good idea at the time" thing. The corners of those boxes are square because that is the style of the newspaper. The logo isn't mine, I can't change it. -5/10 for your language because it's Norwegian. Thanks for the feedback so far.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback guys/girls, I won an iPad. The newspaper will also interview me. So, one iPad for sale then. [spoiler=Old]Here's the final version I submitted to the contest: [spoiler=old]Edit: Version two: (Yeah I know there's a lot of wasted space didn't have time to finish it yet) Here it is. The colors are very specific and there for a reason (It mirrors the design of the newspaper). There's still a lot to work out like font sizes and some of the actual UI functionality, which will be described, not implemented (By me anyway); everything you see here is mocked up in Inkscape in about half a day or so. Long story short it's a bit like the Slashdot model of news syndication, if you're familiar with that. Basically there are different "Channels" of news according to category, users can select channels according to taste and browse multiple channels or just one channel. Each tab shown is a channel, in addition I would add another channel that is all of them mixed together. The news in the channels is published like a Twitter or facebook feed, newest at the top, new pushes down old etc. Comments on fonts and font sizing especially appreciated, although I'm mostly happy with the font I have, if you have another font that would look good (And work for commercial use, Open Font License, public domain or similar) feel free to recommend it. C/C, feedback, comments please. I'm also aware of bad visibility of, for example, the "Sport" tab. Lots more stuff will be added later too.
  8. Image doesn't work :-( The background color is actually transparent by default, you need to create a rectangle to make the background, and give it color with CTRL+Shift+F, then change the fill color. Inkscape doesn't show the transparency of the background because that's a common practice in vector graphics editors (Illustrator and the like). This. The best typography is simple, yet visually striking. Yeah maybe not so in-your-face though. Now that I look at it again I see it went a bit overboard.
  9. The initial idea is good, but the implementation isn't really very good. Your biggest problem is composition. In this example I have used the simple fact that the quote mirrors itself- The reason why the quote is perceived as interesting- as a base for the composition. This is just rough, otherwise I would find a way to have "Is enough for" to be on its own line to mirror "Is not enough for", and emphasize the two "Lifetime"s somehow, both to make it mirror itself more. Also I would fix the reading rhythm (Those fixes would probably do just that actually). My point is that you should try to take some characteristic of the quote and make it into a visual pun. That's what (good) typography these days tends to be. Your second problem is your font choice. This is a mockup like you said so of course you would probably give the font more thought later, but let me recommend you a site, http://fontsquirrel.com. All the fonts are free, and they are generally high quality (The font I used is from there, called Bebas Neue). The font you used is mostly utilitarian, and I would also avoid italics unless you really feel you know what you're doing.

Has anyone here ever tried a durian? I bet someone from Asia has.

^ Wow, Photoshop copypasta much? I heard that too. In a stand-up comedy. It was the punchline. Care to back that up? Here's evidence otherwise: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/lose-weight-eat-breakfast

+1 On the butter/brown sugar thing, also boiled carrots with butter and mint is awesome.
  13. I know it's been a while since I replied to this thread. I just wanted to say this worked and it's much easier than following the instructions on java's website. Thanks a lot. Oh yeah I tried the Java website instructions a long time ago and they're horrible. I never got any of it to work.

    Today...

Went to the American embassy to get my passport renewed today. Also got my sister's old laptop as it has some, uh, problems. Like the backlight only works if the screen is tipped at 45°. But I know people that can help me fix them, so I might just get a working laptop out of this.
  15. I don't know about the admins, but the Crew will sooner die than give up their purple names. As for your second suggestion, that would require coding work. Coding work on the forum for smaller problems is generally pretty low priority. The crew coders are overworked as it is.
  16. Actually the anatomy is impressively accurate (From what little I know), especially the muscles. I've been trying a lot of anatomy myself lately, and it can be quite hard.
  17. What on earth were you writing that took 900k lines of code?

    Today...

Agreed, haha. A couple of times my pillow or my blanket has ended up on the floor, really weird when you wake up. Also sometimes if I sleep with a shirt on, I'll wake up and notice that I took it off in my sleep.
  19. It's the first sign of a horrible disease! Get to the hospital quick! I think just about anyone (Guys anyway) that plays an instrument does that.

    Please Lock.

There's a reason that most school shooters end up killing themselves. Death is, to them, the easy way out. As for my opinion, it's a life you're talking about, no matter what the person did, you have no right to kill them.

    Today...

I really should be doing a lot of things, but I can't be bothered, and besides it's still winter break. I got mad at myself today because I slept until 12 even though I set an alarm for 9:45.
  22. Agreed. I've been running AMD for the past 3 ½ years and it has served me well.
