Hold up two fingers. Now hold up one more finger. Now you're holding up 3 fingers. There's your damn proof. You still can't provide the existence of YOUR god, let alone the existence of the hundreds of thousands of gods that exist and have existed. 2 doesn't exist and 1 doesn't exist. Therefore you have no proof that 3 is the sum of 2 and 1. Don't be a troll. Are you telling me that I'm not holding up three fingers if all but my thumb and little finger aren't being held up? If so, you belong in a mental institution. In reality there is no such thing as those numbers, is what he is trying to say. ( I think)

I use the word "delusion" because it is the only word that I know to describe a belief that is firmly held despite evidence to the contrary. Do you know of any other words I could use? For example: thinking that if you step on a crack, you break your mother's back. That is a delusion, from my understanding of the word. I could call it "superstition" if you perfer. I still suspect that I would recieve a negative reaction for using that word to describe religious beliefs though. Which brings me back to my original point. If someone claims that they are living their lives in fear because they accidentally broke a mirror, you would call them superstitious or even delusional. Yet if you hold religious beliefs (which have just as little evidence as the mirror-breaking thing) you aren't crazy or delusional; you're just religious. I seriously don't understand. The thing is, people have different opinions on what is evidence and not. If someone said they are living their life in fear because of religion, then they would be considered a crazy religious person

Yes. Religion is a delusion, and so is rationality or even delusions. Everything is a delusion :) And for some reason it's okay to disrespect one delusion but not another. It's somehow absurd to think that the religious man's delusion is less a delusion than Weapon's, here. I'm not religious. Didn't think I'd have to point that out again but everyone seems to think I am. Weapon's post - both versions - exemplifies what I hate about antitheists. Namely, the belief that their beliefs are untouchable but anyone else's are worthy of mockery. Yes, it is quite contradictory to say one belief is "wrong" and a delusion, and then say what you believe is "right". On the other hand life can be a big contradiction itself... oh well :P

You are thinking of god almost as a human. You will have trouble if you think of it that way. Btw - Christians believe that God was human, for a brief period of time. Hell, I believe god is everywhere and everyone. God was Jesus, but Jesus wasn't all of god.

I don't think Jesus would agree with half of whats in the bible.

Religion gives people a set of beliefs to live by. Most people without religion also have certain beliefs or laws they live by. So religion isn't that big of a problem. In the end most of the problems just stem from some people thinking they are better than others because of their religion or lack of.
  9. That is Buddhism not Nihilism. A Nihilist is closer to an athiest then a Buddhist. Buddhists are atheists... Yes but it really comes down to how they live their life, a Buddhist would be dispassionate like a Jedi or something while an Atheist might still desire a permanent universe, system of government, etc. I guess the main difference between the two is a Buddhist understands there is nothing and an atheist may say there isnt eternal life but may say something still is eternal. A Nihilist may have a similar belief but how they live is closer to an atheist then a Buddhist Ah yes, that's why I became attracted to certain teachings that can be considered Buddhist. More experiencing what I "believed", rather than just talking about it.

  11. The tone has already been set, its not really something that has to be said, " Shooting people is wrong."
  12. Of course. But people want to ban guns, when its not really going to help anything.
  13. Yes, but it was still harder to get, and that was my point. I'm not claiming that a blanket ban on all drugs is the best thing for society, what I am saying is that banning something (whatever the other effects may be) generally makes it harder to get. Do you think all those negatives (organized crime and all) are a balanced trade off to restricting people's personal choices? Also lol this thread is pretty terrible at staying on track. From guns to nazis to drugs I'm not even condoning banning alcohol  I'm just attempting to debunk the myth that a gun control would be ineffective. But yes, I do support the ban on most drugs (excepting alcohol and maybe marijuana) because of the strain abuses of those drugs put on the healthcare system. Not so much of an argument for the states, but for a country with publicly funded healthcare it's quite a poignant one. Pm me or create a new topic if you want to continue as we're getting OT. Solution to drugs: 1. Get government to fund drug research for removal of harmful side effects of drugs and yet increase that 'high' feeling. 2. Legalize drugs and make public areas available to enjoy drug usage. 3. ??? 4. Profit. On-topic: Most of the violence that occurs because of gun violence is done by people who either get guns illegally or wouldn't mind having to get them illegally. I have no stats to back this up, it is just how it seems to me. So maybe less people would own guns if they were banned, but for the most part the criminals who acutally use them would still obtain them.
  14. When society gets too used to gun ownership, trying to take them away will only lead to a black market for guns. Black markets are never good Exactly my point. Like drugs... making them illegal doesn't exactly help.
  15. You going to trim armor? :)
  16. Hey, if someone can find away to completely eliminate guns and gun trade from the U.S then I'm all for it. That's not going to happen though...
  17. Isn't maging generally futile in most Pvm situations? Why would you need an arcane in any of those, unless I misunderstood the question. I agree, thanks for the answer
  18. Better question is... Arcane or Spectral?
  19. The thing is, you will not eliminate guns and gun violence by making them illegal. If people want something, they will find a way to get it. Like illegal drugs.
  20. Maybe cause he is not?
  21. My record is about 40 hours, but it was because of school and homework, not necessarily because I was doing something I enjoy :P
  22. Nihilism makes sense. Though, if you say nothing exists then you are already saying that "nothing" exists. Therefore at least "nothing" exists, even if it is of absolute no value or purpose. If matter and space came from nothing, then that nothing must of been at least... there is no proper word for it, it must of at least been somehow "aware" of itself. Then somehow out of itself manifestations formed and eventually our brains formed to perceive that "nothing" as something. Basically, everything is made out of "nothing", it just seems like something to the brain, which itself was formed out of nothing. Yea.. it might be tough to grasp :P
  23. Hello Sir.
  24. He has barely begun to play the game yet.... Unless he has another account that actually has somewhat decent levels in all skills he doesn't know what he's in for. Yeah, he's doing agility first then RC, not the best idea! In other news a guy that used to go to my elementary and high school just maxed his skill total Why isn't that the best idea? 99 Agility helps with RC so you don't run out of energy, whereas RC doesn't help agility. On your other news, do we care? L. Wow, you know someone in real life that's maxed.. big deal? We don't care that you don't care :D
  25. Yay, finally. Last time I remember seeing this was in 07 :)
