Yes, I had to be a free player for a few months back a long time ago. I chose to drop most of my members stuff, however I had nothing worth much back then, and I hadn't totally filled my bank anyway. If it happened now I would be pretty much unable to play.

There is no reason to use an anchor for anything, really. Firstly, the whip is a superior weapon for everything other than pvp and boss monsters. And the whip is superior to anchor in both of those, unless you're using it only as a ko weapon or something.
