I live in the "bible belt", or the south. Just about everyone here is a homophobe. This issue still extends far beyond that. You don't have a damn clue how horrible people are here, which is why I think some people will never change. One thing troubles me though as of late: how the presidential election and this issue are related. Think about it, consider who gay people would vote for, McCain, who is conservative and wouldn't help them, or Obama, who would push for equality regarding this issue. It is a sign, that we are changing somewhat, albeit slowly. Down here, I don't recall any state voting for Obama completely. These conservatives also tend to be homophobes. This obviously won't apply to each one of them, but people just simply won't listen. Which is why I want Barihawk's plan to be put into action, to convince people that they need to cast aside their opinion to just think about it for one damn moment.

Exactly, this is not a perfect society so we must change it instead of just saying "oh its never gonna change...". Things can be changed, but as for this current generation, you really can't do much. People are simply stubborn. The minds of the young can be taught to be intolerant of ignorance, and only then will society change, by changing the children. But alas, this is the internet! There's only one bandwagon and if you fall behind you get shot. Seriously, I am sick of the lack of ability to express one's opinions on certain subjects on the internet. People are free to discuss their pornography viewing habits, use of illegal substances, or any number of subjects but if someone has a differing opinion to the above or another "popular" view they are instantly labelled as "wrong," "backwards," or ridiculed. The entire forum needs an education in being open minded. To have an open mind, you need to rationally look at anything without allowing your emotions or personal opinions to get in the way. To put yourselves in that person's shoes before you speak. EDIT: And by rational I mean the actual word, not what it seems to have come to mean today. Rational as in excluding your own opinions for just a moment for careful analysis. Too bad ignorance is bliss, and some simply won't change.
