For me, I really like the history football has. My favourite club, Liverpool FC, has such a prestigious and unique history it feels an honour to support it and be part of it. Sorry, but when your 'franchise' gets uprooted and shifted around the country, I can't relate to the appeal of that. So...maybe history has something to do with the appeal? Think of it, we Brits are stuck in our history of our crumbling Empire, like engulfing yourself in a football club's history, while the U.S. are constantly trying to re-write history to make it better for them, like re-naming a 'franchise'.
