Absolutely not. They have issues too. Just not as often as they all have the same hardware, which means the same drivers. If you had trouble with your windows based computer before, that's either because you had bad drivers or had a computer of a bad brand like Dell or HP. I've never had any issues with the computer I built myself and put Windows/Ubuntu on it, and I have never had any issues with my Asus laptop. I had a lot of issues in the past with my HP computer though until I installed Vista on it.

I've done it with Windows 7, so it is possible, only you need to have downloaded the drivers since it will take the OS's basic drivers. Why just upgrade the mobo? Why not the whole computer (except hard drive)?

ie9's urlbar is cleaner than chromes current. I'm a big fan of rockmelt. Created by firefox maker, chrome based, and blended really nicely with facebook. Rockmelt looks like a mix of Google Chrome and Firefox 4. To whoever said their firefox was slow on Beta, upgrade to the RC. I have tried IE9 in the Beta days just for the heck of it, and I do not like the ui, doesn't work well for a lot of websites as well. Firefox still showed the websites like it should when it was in its first Beta. And now the RC 2, while I think it looks too much like Chrome, is very nice and minimalistic.

Are all the wires plugged in like they should? Do you have another monitor that you can try this on?

Just for clarification, I do not play Rs at work, I use the JDKs as I work in the Java field. I am current though in technologies and am using the newest Betas/RCs of Firefox (currently 4RC1 I think).

Well, in my area, well supposedly my province has one of the worst road conditions of the country. Some roads have 1' deep potholes (even a highway where people have to change lanes because hitting a bunch of those potholes at 110KM/h (which is the limit) is pretty dangerous). In the city here, I believe they should higher a better company, since the one we have now, there are no signs put on roads (except one place where they closed one lane of the road for like 20m), and when they put a patch, which is already pretty rare, the patch is already gone by the end of 1 hour. Sometimes they do a better job, like one patch on a road I use to go to work everyday, patch has been there 2 days, over a pothole going almost side to side of the road and that was 1 foot deep at some places, but it's already starting to break, and it's annoying getting all those mini-rocks on the car.. Anyway, guess there's a lot of places with bad roads at this time of the year.

All boils down to personal preference. To whoever said that 2003 doesn't with new Office formats (.docx for example), this is false. When the update pack is applied to Office 2003, it does work with them. I do prefer Office 2010 though as the menus have more logic than 2003 and doesn't have any bugs (unlike Office 2007). It is a very good idea to try Open/Libre office as well, as I find it to be a very good replacement of Office.

False. I ran Java 1.5 update 22 (aka Java 5u22) on Windows 7 without any problems at work. I currently have Java 6 update 23 and I am not having any troubles with RS. I could make the upgrade to see if I get the problem too and solve it. Is your graphics driver up to date?

If it is for word documents and that kind of stuff, the college most likely uses Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007. It obviously is designed better on Windows. Like a lot of others have said, you'd be paying too much for the same hardware as any other Laptops than Mac for the same hardware. If you get a Virus on your Mac (which is still pretty rare), you don't really have any way of getting it off and might have to reformat if you can't find any other way. For a quality laptop, Asus is the brand to go, and will cost much less than the allocated budget.

Vista post SP1 is very stable. Hell, my Vista SP2 computer is more stable than both my Windows 7 computer. Windows 7 SP1 seems even more stable though. I'm tired of people like you saying Vista is bad. I have used and repaired many pcs and laptops with all kinds of operating systems, and to be quite honest vista is one of the least user friendly and resource hogging. Im far from a win7 fanboy, just putting in my 2 cents and hoping people don't take my opinion personally. While Vista was a hog, Windows 7 has even higher required specs when it comes to RAM. Difference is, People actually have good computers now, not the minimum required for XP. Vista was much more user friendly than XP ever was as it is more logic as the places where the menus/other stuff is located in windows. Of course there are still better OSes than Windows, but that's personal preference.

Lol Gmail scans your emails to decide what to show as ads. I know it's just a system, but someone could go and see what keywords appear the most in your emails. I don't think there really is a good free email service. Probably better to make your own email server, but not everyone can.

This computer seems very old. It might be less expensive to get a new one depending on the upgrade you want to make.
