  1. Despite your high post count, which generally seems to indicate quality, it has become apparent to me that a few of your recent posts were fairly spam-like. --- OT: I have no idea what to say, because I didn't understand your post, Hal. ;) It's too late now so I'll ask you on Skype tomorrow for a more detailed explanation.
  2. 1. There is a reason that the game will always be "broken", because the creators are human and will always make mistakes. And, as humans, we FIX our mistakes and then work on the next ones. That's like whenever you do something wrong you have the excuse that you're human and make mistakes. True... so go fix it and go on to the next thing. 2. No, Jagex is the government. They set up the rules, control your environment, and add/remove things as they see fit. No, Jagex IS God. The government cannot alter how the universe works, Jagex can. A government has very little power over the universe. In respect to RuneScape, Jagex has ABSOLUTE power as they can do absolutely anything they like with the game. 3. You're going in circles at this point. As said several time before, there is no need to remove a fun item just because it serves no actual purpose. By that logic, you could remove every household dog from the world, because they really don't improve an average family and are just for entertainment. Also, who are you to tell someone how to spend their money in an online game. It's my business if I want to spend my money to buy a useless pixelated hat while it's your business to buy the items to raise your skills to gain pixelated levels. Dogs are very useful creatures. Many dogs assist disabled people, and their keen sense of smell can allow them to save your life in a fire. Their excellent swimming skills can save you from drowning. Their canine teeth can protect you from intruders. That was a stupid example, dogs are much more than 'entertainment'. Many people are quite emotionally attached to their pets, and by your logic we should just cast away our friends, because they're only around for our entertainment, right? As for the second part of your statement, there's no reason I shouldn't be allowed to have the same pixels as you if I want them, or vice versa and all to all. 4. POHs were a bad example on your part. Other people were affected by those killings for doing nothing, rares have no impact on you unless you choose for them to. Rares have a huge impact on both the economy and society, both of which every player is part of whether we choose to be or not. 5. You're wrong, a phat isn't a 30gp item worth 100 million, it's a 100 million item worth 100 million. Going by that logic, a whip is worth 30 million because they were worth that at one point. As said before, some play games to have fun and enjoy buying useless items, it's their business. Yes, it IS a 30gp item. What he's trying to say is that it's utterly USELESS. In fact, a hammer can do more for me than a party hat can. Why would you rather pay 100,000,000 coins for a hat that does NOTHING at all (and makes you look like an idiot 5-year-old who just came home from Burger Queen), or 1 coin for a hammer that lets you smith armor and weapons, bang open the Bandos door, allow you to complete tons of quests, and more uses I can't remember off the top of my head? 6. I see in now way how the word rare implies that a small source is still coming in. Ok, we agree on that. He was simply making a point that there's a HUGE difference between 'rare' and 'discontinued' items. I have Jagex backup for this one, because a JMod posted that the Soul Wars rewards didn't give RARE items, LIKE godswords, dragonfire shields, abyssal whips, etc. 7. So hammers aren't a rare item? I really don't see where you were going with that besides stating the obvious. I agree, bad example, but his other points are quite valid. Source? I've been playing for years. Your whining isn't new. People complained when Santas/Phats/etc. were becoming collectibles. People complained when there weren't enough Bunny Ears dropped. People complained when they weren't home when scythes were dropped. Jagex doesn't give a flying [bleep]. They're not going to give another chance years after and you're a joke for thinking otherwise. If you're just going to flame and ignore me, you might as well not post in the first place. Yes, things like "More bank space" and "New servers." They'll never do any of that. Agreed. Those who think that selling an infinite amount of a rare item at an expensive price will not cause a drop in value are wrong. The point of a rare item's price is it's exclusivity. People are willing to pay millions for a holiday rare because of the fact that it's a) rare and B) discontinued. I guarantee people won't buy a Blue Partyhat for 300mil when ANYONE and EVERYONE could eventually get one. Hell, I doubt anyone would buy one for more than 10 gp. Because as soon as everyone has the potential to get their hands on one, Partyhats, Masks and the Santa Hat become nothing more than another "Chef Hat". How are the prices going to drop if the shop sells them at the same price as the GE? Are you thinking that every noob will just go out and buy one? A chef's hat costs under 100 gp. A green mask costs about 100,000 times more than that. Not something every noob can go out and buy. Today's player-submitted poll had a question asking, "If you could have one of these things for a day, which would you want?" One of the options was 10m gp. I just checked, and it's only about 100 votes behind "All capes of achievement" at the time of this post, with more than 20% of the votes. Not to mention the additional 15% who voted for a godsword, which costs less than a phat. Besides, if you haven't noticed, rares have already been dropping steadily for months. I was going to respond to the bold myself with the same point you made, but you beat me to it; thanks. I'll just say "owned". And as mentioned before, two words - dragon platebody. Mm, your tears are so yummy and sweet The people on your side are whining just as much as the people on my side. The only difference is, we're more logical because we want a broken system fixed, and your side's excuses mostly consist of "I played longer than you so I'm special! Wah!". First off, perhaps some of US have played longer than YOU? Secondly, if you're so concerned about being SPECIAL in an online game meant for enjoyment, and that you should be treated better than other players even though you've done nothing to earn or achieve that status, your logic is a bit off. And "joining the game earlier" doesn't count as DOING something. That's a stupid excuse and I think we all know that. What I mean by DOING is what you ACHIEVE in the game by playing it. I've also seen a few arguments like "oh, so old players shouldn't be rewarded? Then I guess we should just give everyone 99 stats since they didn't start years ago". This is one of the stupidest arguments you can come up with. The point is, and I'll make it clear: most anything I achieved in the past 8 years of RuneScape CAN BE ACHIEVED by a player who starts tomorrow. All they have to do is spend as much time as I did, in TOTAL. You could make the argument that if we each played for infinity time, I'd always be ahead, but other factors can change that, and the point isn't that I'm AHEAD, it's that the new player can ALWAYS achieve whatever I do at a later time. He can always catch up to me with each achievement, and the next and the next after I do them. But he can always DO everything I do. Do you get the point? Holiday items, which are meant for FUN anyways, go against that. No matter how long a newer player played, he can NEVER get those no matter what he does. And you DON'T deserve anything for attending the event. Attending the events is not time consuming nor does it require effort, which is probably why you like it - you're getting something for nothing. So those of us with Scythes, who required no effort to obtain them, should deny them to people who work their tails off for high level items like Godswords and Spirit shields? I don't think so.
  3. I was going by when RS was created (1999), not when it was first publicly released (2001).
  4. Correct. Someone understands the point. Also, I find it incredibly peculiar that people find rares "fair", yet weapons and armor for people with level 99 skills like me are "OMG 2 OVAR POWERD WE CANT MAKE DAT ITS NOT FAIRRRRR!!!". Really now? I worked harder than them to get those levels, so give me a Thor's hammer. If they want one too, they can go work for it, instead of sitting on their arses playing holiday events three times a year - which takes no effort at all besides sitting in front of the computer. And don't worry about the flames, I can handle them. *Shows Dragonfire shield* I said it. If Bill Gates wants something, he gets it. People don't go to Bill Gates and say "oh, you are too young, you can't have that". Achievers who earn wealth and power are the ones that benefit.
  5. The thing I find incredibly baffling is that people find untradeable rares "fair", yet extremely high level armor for level 99 skill players is unfair, although it requires hard work and effort and is earned, UNLIKE untradeable rares (and to some extent tradeable ones) which fit NONE of these categories.
  6. Your sword is going to be worth 50k in a few months time. The party hat will then be equivalent to a thousand of your sword. I guarantee it won't, and even if it did, what is your point? The party hat would become even more worthless if that were to happen because I can buy 1000 very useful swords instead of 1 completely useless hat.
  7. But Slayer's not a discontinued skill that you can no longer gain experience in no matter what you do, so that is irrelevant.
  8. troacctid, good idea. I'll update my OP when I get a chance. That's not a good idea, because there are plenty (and probably majority) of players who bought their party hats / masks / etc., rather than getting them from the drops a long, long time ago. Party hats are poor marks of age and while I continue to argue against the idea of old accounts being socially 'better' and having 'special privileges', bunny ears and scythes show an account's age better than a party hat.
  9. Agreed. I bet you - just our luck they'll release the Music Cape of Achievement next week and I'm missing the one last song I need. -.-
  10. Nice job! I'm going to take a look at the conversations tomorrow, I'm sure they'll be entertaining. PS - I love how you sign your posts with "slay on". ;)
  11. I am not arguing against the difficulty of things. You are completely missing the point. I am arguing FOR that. The problem is, rare supplies are limited. If EVERYONE in RuneScape wants a party hat, not everyone can get it, no matter how hard they work (same for the untradeables). THAT... is the problem.
  12. No you haven't. You are just complaining that certain discontinued items, that does not affect game at all (only jealousy), are more and more rare. And one of the solutions would be to remove the only thing, that distinct long-time players from new ones. Again it is not affecting game at all, its just that some jealous players want it. If they weren't affecting the game they wouldn't exist.
  13. Oh my god, so basically it is bad to reward players for playing a game for longer time? Just because some jealous people want same advantage? As stated before - bring back time, when whip was 10m ea, bring back time when dragon sq was 5+m ea, when guthan was 13m worth. Also rares are not hurting game AT ALL. They are only hurting minds of jealous people, so I don't see any point in swapping them for money and SERIOUSLY hurt economics - again just because of jealous people. And as for bunny ears or scythes? I am glad that they are discontinued, this way you can guess that somebody wearing those is not a 13 year old kid having brain only for purpose to calling you noob... who do you prefer to talk to - a guy with scythe or a PC product with "mighty godsword"? I don't know, I never met either of them, but I'm leaning towards the guy with the godsword. And how do you know someone with bunny ears isn't a 13 year old kid having brains for the only purpose of calling you a noob? They're from what, 2001? If he started playing at 5, he can be 13 now. So there.
  14. ...Soviet Russia joke makes fun of YOU! Haha, I love these. Anyways, there's a particular queerness I find odd. There's a book based on RuneScape, "Betrayal at Falador". RuneScape started as a game and the book was based on it. It seems that a lot of people dismiss this book as silly, or consider it 'nerdy' to read it. However in the reverse, when a game is based on a book... say... Harry Potter I guess is an example. It's not considered 'nerdy' to play the Harry Potter game because it started as a book. I fail to see the logic so perhaps someone could enlighten me? In my opinion Betrayal at Falador sounds interesting. I'm going to read it when I get a chance. In my opinion, NOT reading it would make me a 'noob' because I'd have no knowledge of that particular aspect of the RuneScape series universe. PS - My title DOES make sense. The "In Soviet Russia..." joke is called a Russian reversal, and my topic is about how if a series universe starts with a particular medium, the other media may be considered "nerdy" or irrelevant.
  15. Say hi to Belgian keyboards. (3rd time I posted this) I can't recall how many times I've accidentally pressed µ when pressing enter. Seriously. Okay, I hate this phrase, but: I know, right! I hit the µ all the time when I'm chatting (fast typing + lots of enters). Glad to not have been online during this latest RS drama. Wow, that IS the micro sign. See what I mean? You can't tell the damn characters apart. :P I'm not sure if they can, though. It never actually appears on anybody's chat, that action will log the player off and thus the symbol (and author's name) deleted, so how can it be recorded? Your message is first sent to the server, and then when the server sends it back to you, you crash. Therefore, since they log all chat, they can find out who used this bug. Furthermore, how in the world do you think you can crash OTHER players without any information getting to the server to cause it?
  16. How useful could the soul talisman be without the alter? Err.. One of those party hats please. How contradictory. :) You guys all want party hats with no use. At least the soul talisman will have a use eventually. Then again, no it won't due to the omni-talisman... but come on... it's a SOUL TALISMAN. There is no cooler item in the game. :D And interesting, I didn't know they made the altar model already; I knew they have the talisman, tiara and staff though.
  17. Well, I did mean an item that currently exists. The soul talisman exists in the game, we just can't obtain any yet. Dragon warhammers don't actually exist at all yet.
  18. Simple topic, simple question. What is your MOST desired item in the entire game? I'll start us off: my most desired item in the entire game is the soul talisman. NOTE: The item should be one that currently exists, and the soul talisman actually does exist in the game code, but we just can't obtain it yet. Feel free to post your most desired future item (preferably one that is likely for future release, not something like a lightsaber). For me I'll have to say crystal halberd.
  19. Ouch, I know what you mean. Champions scrolls are my most desired items in the game after the Soul talisman.
  20. Also, to those who argue that the character's disabling is bad because Greek people use it all the time... well, you're wrong. The glitch character is not used by 99% of Greek people, ever. Nor is it likely even present on any keyboard manufactured anywhere. Reason being, RuneScape doesn't support Greek. Only characters in the decimal range 32 to 255 are supported. The glitch character (decimal #181, hexadecimal #B5) is the Micro Sign - µ The Greek lower-case letter Mu (decimal #956, hexadecimal #3BC) - ? is not even supported by RuneScape. As you can see, they are nearly identical or identical depending on your font. Just wanted to point this out.
  21. I have played long enough to own one, and I'm still complaining aren't I?
  22. Yeah I did, how about you? How is it not server side? Sure it's user-input, but the actual bug itself is server side. Jagex messed something up in the handling of the µ. I think you lost me there. Because if it were server side, every player on the server would be disconnected, not just the ones in the vicinity. For some reason the client incorrectly handles µ. I'm a software engineer and I don't know why, it doesn't make sense that the display of a character should cause the client to crash.
  23. I was too I'm an American so I really only know of our holidays; I'm thinking mabye 4th of July? If they make a 4th of July holiday event, I say send a Topol-M to Jagex HQ... >.<
