  1. Summoning familiars had to be coaxed several times to get them to actually attack anything, so this is a great update. Most of the stuff in our POH that stores pets may not require high level Construction, but a mini-Obelisk is always helpful. Don't even get me started on the flatpack Make-X and the butlers' almost self-automating routine, including writing their own checks. Sometimes it's the small updates that make the game more enjoyable. At least, I think so. @Kenneh: This is direct from the KB of the Menagerie: I don't think you can have two dragons of the same color in your house, but one in the bank and one in the house is probably fine.
  2. This is definitely a handy little update. I'm actually liking that we can put our pets in our POH now; that frees up a lot of bank space. Or at least it will for me when I get another Summoning level. MA updates sounds like they're reviving it a fair bit, which makes sense - this ought to be good. I'll try those out later and see what I think. I can confirm that the faster POH loading times were there before this update; I don't know when they happened, but it only took me one or two seconds to get into someone else's house while I was training Prayer last week... Can't wait to use the Make-X with the flatpacks. I've been waiting for that for quite some time, heh...
  3. I must be "nobody" then. :? While I think the chance for a Dragon Kite has already passed, we could still use one. There's no reason that it couldn't come to pass; and if we're comparing its stats to a fully charged DFS, that would mean that it's second only to that. We could then add bonuses and effects later on and as they're needed. Honestly, the the Dragon Kite should probably be about equal to the DFS, since the DFS is just a big ol' Visage attached to a anti-fire shield anyway. All in all, I'd like to see a Dragon Kite in the game. It's kinda silly to run around with full Dragon & a Square shield nowadays, isn't it...?
  4. They're expensive, but look at it at a different angle - what purpose would it serve the majority of the population to own one? If anything, they're at their perfect price range for the 1% that actually wants to afford one.
  5. Unless you have "downgrade rights" or another copy of XP lying around somewhere, there's a pretty slim chance you'll be able to just rip out Vista and put on XP. There is a solution, however, for the drivers. If it's a well-known manufacturer (Dell, HP, etc), then you can just go to their website, enter your model in, and get the drivers that way. If it isn't well known, take down as much information about your machine as you can (including wireless/wired cards, graphics card, and sound card specifications). That way, no matter what, you can at least search online to find the missing drivers for your machine. By the by - it's only safe to do if you have a backup plan. Key word: backup. ;)
  6. Switch to the old plugin from Java. To do so is actually quite simple: 1) Go to the Java Control Panel which is found in the Control Panel. 2) Go to the "Advanced" tab. 3) Untick where it says "use the latest Java plugin". 4) Close everything related to Java (including browser) and try again. If this doesn't work, then repost and I'll look into something else.
  7. I went to Warped Tortoises to pick up some shells for Summoning earlier, and I walked away with about 36 Mithril ore in the span of about a half hour. That says plenty right there, I believe. As for mining coal, I don't think I know anyone that really does anymore - even I get my supply from Miscellania. Gold is a bit of a mixed bag - you *can* mine it successfully, and there's enough of it in one place to make it actually feasible - but the actual process of going through with it for Smithing experience has been long outclassed by SC and other methods. I'll say this - if I had to mine an equivalent amount of Gold as I did with smelting/smithing Iron for 92 Smithing, I think I would have quit by now. Truth be told, Crafting sees better usage with hides than it does Gold/Silver. Also, the only people mining clay are the ones either making tablets or are just beginning Crafting, anyway. I don't think that it was about prices being too high that Smithing goods were added to droplists; I think it was more of applying a bandage - giving certain NPCs drops of ore in large amounts - where one really required a tourniquet. If you start to think, that may be the reason they fail at money making... But mining ALSO sucks as a money maker... and isn't easy. Profit is not the scope of this rant. Who cares about profit when Mining has its own purpose, anyway?
  8. Makoto = Character in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (I didn't know she was a female until I beat the game; she really doesn't look like a girl.) D = first letter of the friend that got me hooked onto the game. Hence, Makoto D.
  9. No. Setting the update time at a specific time makes the market more susceptible to manipulation. Think about it - if I knew what time item X was going to get updated, then I'd probably buy as much of item X as I could about five minutes before the cut-off, and not in the wash, so it actually counted.
  10. I think that sums it up. Not every update can give out rewards like WGS or even MEP2, so just chill out when a low-level update comes around.
  11. Ever hear of something called "copyright infringement"? Just because Jagex hasn't done stellar updates (according to the gospel known as yourself), that doesn't give anyone the right to just up and steal intellectual property.
  12. ]http://www.thefreedictionary.com/s[racist term] Look up the word before making foolish comments, please.
  13. How is it sad? We don't know how much free time he has. We don't know his circumstance. So what if he plays RS like that? Just lay off of him. Anyway, it would make sense that using brawlers would get him the fastest experience possible, but that would mean that he had hundreds of them just stockpiled... That's insane leveling by any stretch. Good for him, I suppose.
  14. I looked at that. The surprising thing is that Tin remains the same. As for the whole "merch clan" theory, I really don't think that their hand is involved in it too much. My reasoning is that there is most likely too much of this item for any one merch clan (or any group of them thereof) to fully control. I genuinely believe that it's due to less iron actually staying in the game, since powermining iron is a popular way to train in F2P and in P2P w/o Granite.
  15. Some say the game will end in fire; I say the game will end in segfaults. Think about it - the panic that ensues from either the 2012 or 2038 doomsday scenario is sure to have some super-panicked technician misplace one or two critical pointers in the game server's OS, thus causing the game servers to not only shut down, but also cause the financial server to be knocked offline for a week and a half. That'd probably be enough to do the game in. Seriously though, even if it has to come to an end, most of us will be well into our forties or older, and we'll be way too busy dealing with our angsty teen children playing some god-forsaken online MMO to remember RuneScape...
  16. Are you using Firefox? If so, press Ctrl + 0 to reset the sizing of the page.
  17. A few replies... I would love to see auto-dropping re-added to the game, but I would like it to be optional. Just in case I don't want to drop my ores. I'm not much of a fan of auto-dropping ores. It means we'd be back to Square One as far as refreshing Mining went. Getting experience faster isn't really the point, as far as I see it - it's about actually using the ores we get from Mining to feed back into Smithing. quelmotz did a good job of summing everything up in this, but I'll add something about other ores/bars. A lot of NPCs out there already drop a large quantity of ores and bars for smithers, which is seen as kind of underhanded - why bother mining 12K adamant when you can just camp Aviansies for it? I think that should be fixed a bit, too, since if we're able to make Mining be the major producer of ores and bars, then the NPC dropping problem wouldn't really be a problem. Thanks for agreeing and reading the rant :P But on to a reply, I really think that the guild itself needs a complete rework. Not moving around anything, really, just make it multi-tiered, and give plenty more resources for miners; something that could be worthy of being called a real guild.
  18. Dealing with Scabaras got a lot of flamemail because it didn't live up to its alleged "high level" requirement that Jagex hyped up in '07. That kinda set most high level players at the time into a frenzy. First Resort? We got to unlock a spa. Whoop-de-doo. Admittedly the spa has some decent bonuses, but it didn't expand the game's lore or depth any. Kennith's Concerns - I expected more from the Slug series. Smoking Kills, Defender of Varrock, and the Summer/Corporeal series were the only really good quests last year by this time, which indeed discounts WGS. Chosen Commander was cool because we got to wrap up a neat little storyline. It also gave us a lot of lore about Bandos, too. Nothing wrong with that, really. No argument with the other quests, really - but they did advance certain plots a little bit (Hunt for Red Raktuber, et al). It's perfectly reasonable that Jagex spent nine months working on Mobilising Armies. Know why? They had never done anything like it before, hence it was unchartered waters. They had to make sure that things didn't break, or didn't go horribly wrong. This is what content development is all about - if the existing code base is already huge, and you add something else that's huge to it, it takes a fair bit of time to make sure that one side doesn't break the other. This is also why Andrew and the Game Engine team are busy refactoring the engine itself so it can handle these updates better. As for the one instance of the major bug, it was a freak accident, but definitely not the first (or last) time a bug will affect someone like that in RS. Recall the POH bug, item duping - these had a wider affect on the populace than one person losing however much they did. I'll make this clear - I respect your complaints, but they came out like you were throwing a tantrum about the quality of game updates and the lack thereof. Personally I'd rather have Jagex tweak existing content anyday than drop a new ghost town on our heads [Mort'ton, Burgh de Rott, dangerous Clan Wars, etc].
  19. What the heck good do spoilers do for us? All it does is build up a hype over perceived, assumed notions of something new, then when those fake notions aren't met, the community (read: the ones that didn't take the update at face value) feels let down and tries to tear Jagex a new one on the forums. Besides, he really can't reveal them - Jagex Content Development team would probably flay him alive anyway.
  20. Try not to have a heart attack about the Sailing thing. We have *no* idea what's going to happen with it. We don't know if he was yanking our chain or what. The actual release though might make those that are unreceptive to change "RAGE QUIT", but chill - we just don't know anything about it.
  21. Two problems with this. 1) You should get some knowledge of scripting down, fast. PHP, Javascript, or Python are an absolute must for this kind of project. 2) The amount of data you get from pulling the information from a single RS GE page is rather...large...as you're not just pulling text, you're pulling image data, Javascript fixes, the whole works. I just did a quick test of it, and it turns out that I pulled about 18KB worth of information; do this for any large number of files, and you're starting to eat up a lot of bandwidth to get only one or two pieces of relevant information. Sadly I don't have any real tutorials on hand, but there are some PHP, Javascript, and Python tutorials around on the Internet that you can follow. Good luck with it.
  22. If they do an update week, you'll complain about it. If they don't do an update week, you'll complain about it. Do you see where I'm going with this? You'll complain either which way it goes. Pick a complaint and stick with it; don't put Jagex's feet to the fire because they do or do not update something, alright? Besides, updating something as mammoth as RS doesn't mean that it will be 100% bug free. It's kinda weird that people just don't know how much work has to be put into debugging and refactoring a game engine as large and as complicated as RuneScape. :?
  23. To add onto this, you really don't need to be doing it with Javascript anyway - you can use a smaller scripting language, like Python, to accomplish the exact same thing. I hope that, instead of looking for someone to give you source, you look into actually exploring the language (regardless of what it is), and being able to see if a specific language is the most fit for your operations.
  24. Yeah, I kinda wanted to oust him, too. But hey, what can you expect? They only understand what they're told, and they were told that some level 90 was the CEO. Guess he didn't take into account the other 399 people working there, many of which are not only high levels (I'm sure there are some high levels wandering around there), and that their accounts can instantly go to "max" if they wanted to, anyway. -.-
  25. While I'm disappointed at this decision too, it's really not a big deal. It'd just be one more thing to add to the old school 'elitism' clique anyway. Not that I'm calling any RSC players elitist, but it can definitely lead down that road.
