Concentrated gold?
Concentrated Gold, which is found in the Living Rock Caverns, and it requires 80 Mining to mine. There aren't a lot of spots of it, and it tends to disappear fairly frequently, but it is quick exp and money.

Mining Sucks (round 2)
I do too, but it's unlikely we'll see anything higher than Adamantite if we wanted Concentrated ores. I'd also contend that Concentrated Iron would produce more grinding, but it would be interesting to see it as well. I would definitely welcome concentrated Mithril and Adamantite somewhere reasonable in the Haunted Mine, though. Typical quelmotz you always post things off-topic to the main rant. Everyone drop the 99s are easy topic especially as the original thread creator wants this thread to go back on topic. It would help if the OP started mining sucks part 3 With the dragon pick out and concentrated ores mining is much better now and these were significant improvements to the skill. First, it was you that took the thread off to the opposite direction in the first place. Thanks for reigning it in though, we're not here to discuss such pedantic matters anyway. Second, why would I create a new thread? This thread is still kicking around, and it's not like it's needlessly crowded.

Leaked picture of a new rs interface?
If it is real: That'd be pretty awesome to see. Place it somewhere that we could toggle the option for others to see it; the "total hours played" may become troll fodder. If it is fake: That's one damn good fakie. The guy that made it deserves a golden paintbrush icon in Photoshop. I'm not saying it is or isn't, but I've given you my two takes on the situation. It would be nice if it was implemented, though.

Mining Sucks (round 2)
How is it that you managed to both prove and refute your point in the same sentence? Buyable is not the same as easy. Full stop. As for the SC Hammers, I used those on my way to 92, but since I only spent 7M on it (smelting 95% of my ores), it took me about eight months to finish it up. I was able to buy it, but that sure as hell wasn't easy. Now I understand that you are debating the simplicity of Mining, or whether or not it's an easy skill, but let me remind you: that is outside of the scope of my rant. Now, this is as polite as I can put it, so please, drop the whole issue about "easy 99s". Take it somewhere else. But not here.

my friend got DoS'ed and he lost 2m
Sorry Stragomagnus, but disabling ICMP isn't going to stop a potential DOS. If any script kiddie has a grip on the situation, they'll try the "legal" traffic ports that the person has - probably the same TCP/UDP ports that you use to connect to IRC anyway (6667, 6668). To block these would be to restrict him from using IRC, and since he's obviously not blocking those, they are a much better target than any other arbitrary port. A thirty-second brief on DOS attacks: Imagine a kindergarten teacher getting flooded with questions from all thirty-five of her students, or imagine Mod MMG's chatroom when he shows up, and the room is full. Both are examples of perfectly legal communication (traffic), but the sheer amount of it in such a small time basically doesn't allow for the handler (teacher, MMG, or MMG's ranks) to communicate with them effectively, slowing, stalling, or stopping communication altogether. Anyway, the only way to fix this is as follows: Prevention is the best cure. If you can't avoid going to IRC, though, then only go to networks that you can trust, and only go to channels with reputable Ops. Or be clever enough to not play RS while on IRC if you can't trust the Ops.

20-Oct-2009 - Ardougne Achievement Diary
okay, 1st sensible reply I've seen in a while and I agree with you for the most part. I write about this because I think it's time to really stand up to the 99 everything people who cries endlessly for higher and higher level content AND jagex actually listens to them. Extremely high levels should really know that they do not make a majority in this game and it's really the influx of new player's support that keeps a game like rs financially viable. I think you put it well, it's a "truly incomprehensibly rare occasion" and in the end I will probably probably look for those 10k crimsons that will take me to 93 summon, but not because I think it's right to set it that high, but to me the game more about quests and tasks like the diaries rather than grinding and more grinding for a higher number and some fancy cape. I can only hope for the future. From this post I derive the following: "Jagex should not cater to the minority High Level Players. It's not fair to the rest of the gaming community." Don't mind me saying this, but that's just flat out wrong. If there's no content for the higher leveled players to do, then what's the point of getting high skills? If there's no incentive to train to high levels, what's the point in having them? If anything, the high levels are finally standing up to the rest of the community and demanding their fair shake at good content. It's been a long, long time coming, but high levels are getting more rewards at higher levels instead of watching every mid level get the same thing. I'm only 1970 or so total. I'm not that high level (although I do have 92 Smithing). I know that I'm not in a majority group. But does that mean I should get kicked to the curb because someone doesn't want to get the requirements to do the diary? The only two skills that I actually have to raise to be able to do the Elite tasks are 75 Runecrafting and 93 Summoning. Those are some nice long-term goals, for any player, and it's simply easier to not think of them as major grinds. There's no mandate that says you have to do this content, and I think that's why you're so upset - you think you have to do this. Simply not true. So relax, take a chill pill, and let the high levels have their heyday. Someday you'll be able to enjoy this content, but for now, either get the level to do it, or don't let it bother you.

Instead of complaining, you could go and train. Your time is better spent doing that anyway. Truthfully, this is a pretty good update, but I expected something that had required 90 Slayer, too. I'm thrilled that they could do Elite tasks as well, so I look forward to doing this when I get the time. Looks like I'm only short the RC and Summoning levels. That shouldn't be so bad. I'll have it done by 2011, at least. :D

Mechscape is going to destroy runescape.
And what do you base this Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt on? Or are you just trying to scare everyone?

If you had 200 BILLION Coins...
I'd probably max every buyable skill, then get rid of 97% of the remainder of my wealth by having 2^(32-1)-1 total drop parties. Of course, this also means that the server I'm on has low latency, and that I have a Quad Core PC with 8GB of RAM just to take the lag...

Your Perfect RS
A perfect RS? Probably an RS that I'd still want to play. That being said, I think I'd be satisfied with its current incarnation - limits and all.

Slayer tasks that are Mage-worthy
I would say that you can use mage with varying success (and by "success" I mean you will probably take a loss) on the following tasks: Abyssal DemonsNechryaelAny metal dragonAny type of demonDagannothWhen I have the resources to explore this further I can give you a more definitive list, but from the jump, these tasks are probably the weakest to Magic out of them all. You can definitely forget maging any non-metal Dragon task, and you can definitely forget maging anything with a Magic-like attack (Abberants, Bloodveld, Cave Horrors). Good luck with your Maging, though. :)

The new dark forum skin development entry #1: Preperation
Not only am I thinking that Tip.it could benefit from a more consistent dark forum theme, but also a site facelift. If you recall, the forum skins were also made to resemble the looks of the main site, which I found to be a rather nice tool. With the new scheme you have in mind, did you ever consider redoing the main site as well? Consistency for both site and forum would be ideal, if you asked me.

Streamlining.
In theory, you're correct. But the idea is that not many people will ever go back to the Legends' Cave. Think about it - what do players see more often, the Kharazi Jungle or Ardougne? I say you're correct in theory, but it isn't like Jagex doesn't have their priorities right when they're updating. Two fallacies in one. 1) It would not take a week to fix those kinds of graphical anomalies. Dealing with graphics software, especially Java, can (and will) get extensively complicated - even when you're doing something like RuneScape. You find a 3D game which does not suffer from this kind of grahpical anomaly, and I might consider this stance more. 2) No work of software is ever perfect. There is and always will be bugs. Not to mention, the very notion of updates means that Jagex doesn't feel that this software is perfect. The whole point of Object-Oriented programs is for you to be able to reuse your code. There's really nothing wrong with reusing the animations from other attacks. If they were to make something new, they would have had to test it against the new code, which means a longer wait. Why not just use some code that we actually know works? Also, they waited until RS2.1 was out and released before they did Player Owned Houses. They had the idea to do them in the standard detail (RSC), but they scrapped them not only because of what they wanted to do with the skill, and not only because the engine couldn't support it at the time, but they also wanted to give it the graphics that it deserved. In my book, that wait paid off. There's just no justification to this statement. I don't know where you get the feeling that RuneScape is a finished product, and you're probably the only person here that catches that vibe. There are things that should be improved, as I said earlier, but priorities are first - more people will be concerned with the looks of major cities than they would some obscure tunnel they'll only ever go to once.

will jagex fix inflation?
There's only one way to get rid of a surplus of cash, and that's to find some magical hole to put it all in. Only problem with that is that they affect players that do or don't have inflated cash to place in the hole, and the ones that usually generate cash avoid obvious money sinks. Dunno what to tell ya, but the only fix to inflation is to create another money sink. Unless you have another idea, that is.

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
You, sir, win this discussion. You forgot about low level pures. Or at least, the alleged low leveled pures. Your combat ability as a pure is in no way reflective of your combat level; a level 37 pure could make mincemeat out of a level 37 non-pure. Same as a level 47 pure could with other non-pures around its level. Potions have never represented combat ability before, and it's unlikely they ever will. While we use Super sets all the time, it doesn't mean that my combat capabilities are any higher than a 130. If I used the Extreme potions, the same would still be true. After all, the effects do wear off, whereas combat level is more permanent. In layman's terms, don't take combat level as combat ability. Pures have used this false belief to thrive in PvP combat for almost a decade.

Tip.it Times 11 October 2009
To the first article: I would have gone with a better analogy than what you had, namely the anti-RWT updates in December of 2007, since that was a clear case of the players demanding action, and it wound up backfiring in their eyes. Overall, I must disagree with the premise. The typical RS player, when confronted with a problem that only Jagex can [properly] resolve, demands action and demands it thirty days ago. Naturally, we offer suggestions and ideas that we think are going to help with the situation, but we don't know how feasible they could have been, or even if they would have fixed the problem at all. Getting Jagex's attention isn't as hard as you think, and going about it in a temper-tantrum way is not a good idea at all. Talking about this issue in a civil tone would probably be best, most likely on the forums. Why would anyone think that Jagex has turned their back on the community? Is it because that the fix didn't come in last month? Being patient would be better than being impatient about the whole scenario. The whole issue with "trickers" and manipulation clans is an awkward but delicate balance. If we fix one thing, then the consequences of such are going to be far reaching. The question then doesn't become if we want Jagex to take action, but if we can live with the actions that Jagex decided to take. The amount of outcry against such actions should be desire enough for even the most stringent of Jagex critics, but it could very well be that the outcry against such actions has them playing Russian Roulette.

Mining Sucks (round 2)
Well, now that we're back on a new forum, and I finally found the time to read and reply to some posts through the maze of Calculus and Prolog, I'm going to critique the latest Mining update, Living Rock Caverns. Truth be told, this place is the best update to Mining in a long, long time. You can now click on a single rock, and receive more than one rock in return. This makes training the skill so much less of a drag, and it also means that more coal and gold can come into the game in a more effective manner. There is a balance, which is alright, I suppose - the rocks have these guardians which are, at times, difficult to avoid, and can pack a wallop if you're unprepared. Overall, this update is a step in the right direction for Mining. Implementing higher leveled concentrated ore would be definitely beneficial to the game. -- People gather them anyway, as said there are ways to obtain them in sufficient amounts, just not the way you would prefer. That said, I do agree with you that rocks containing mithril, adamantite and runite should contain more than one ore. This not being the case with lower level ores is a good thing if you ask me; I'd absolutely hate mining to become another AFK skill. Whether or not it became another AFK skill is irrelevant to the scope of the rant itself. All I want for Mining to do is to produce more ores, which in turn, means that Smithing is no longer an arcane thing for only those with PHats to do. Truthfully, changing Mining such that the rewards increased over the actual experience would tie in a lot better than just increasing the rewards - did you read the first page? I made a statement to the effect that if I were to receive 3/5ths more ore, I'd accept 3/5ths less experience. Perhaps that would appease the fear over an AFKable skill? I feel I have, but I am one of those crazy people that enjoy mining. The point in training a skill isn't merely its function, but it should also be, to put it in crude simplicity, fun. :D Comparing it with woodcutting or fishing, I do enjoy training mining for a longer period of time more than either woodcutting or fishing. That may sound strange since I mastered woodcutting and not mining (yet), but it's true. Sure mining takes longer, but you can say the same about skills like farming for example, which you could count among the gathering skills. In all honesty, I trained woodcutting mostly while watching tv shows on my computer or when I had a full clanchat/friends to talk with or while busy on these forums, and I fish when I do homework (I'd need the computer anyways for math and such). Mining is a skill I can just set my mind to and go for. Nothing like a good old bit of mining to pass the time and gather some bars for smithing. This also is what makes mining an unique skill. ...But that's just me I guess.. Call me crazy because of it. Unique, yes. I will definitely agree that Mining is and will still remain to be unique. But, I still contend that the rewards from the skill could use a boost. You calling it fun is probably not a correct analogy, as I did the same thing in March when I found Smelting 26,000 Iron ores to be "fun" - but only after I had decided to join MMG's chat. The skill then was only fun when you made it fun. Wouldn't you say that all skills are like that, if you can find a glimmer of enjoyment not from skilling, but doing the stuff while skilling? I'm a miner and I can't find myself fitting this example. Personally I don't agree that it isn't an improvement. Sure, it's small, but at least they released it. If you ask me it should have been released along with the dragon hatchet. It's also unfair to assume Jagex released the dragon pickaxe to deceive you, or anyone else. -.- I'm sure they see it as an improvement too, and in this case I agree with that. It's probably a bad idea to jump to the conclusion that I'm being misled. But I don't really see how I can really explain it; for those with only 61 Mining, there's really no difference between a Dragon Pick and a Rune Pick for their powermining. I haven't tested it with the new concentrated ores yet (but I did with Granite/Sandstone/Gold), but there's really not much of a speed boost between the two pickaxes. It exists now, but I just don't see why they couldn't have waited until Mining was at a point in which you could benefit from higher metal pickaxes.

07-Oct-2009 - High-level Herblore Potions
Well, this means that I can unrealistically now get 98 Magic and Slayer concurrently, since Magic is finally worth using against NPCs. Just not sure how well it would go over if I wanted to barrage Abyssal Demons...

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
Key question: Who said that you were forced to do anything? Recall what I said earlier, will you? You do not have to have these potions to continue to function as a PKer. The proof is actually with this recent revision of the update; now that you can't use the potions in PvP, you can function normally. Is it because you're not interested in leveling Herblore that causes you to feel that your freedoms are jeopardized? Or do you just not care about any other aspect about RS except for PvP, and anything that affects the (read: your) PvP experience negatively must be removed? As for your comment about being forced, again, I must ask you if I am realistically forced to do anything. If there were training options in the Wild that increased exp rates at a higher risk, I'd probably weigh them against currently existent methods of training. The one nice thing about skilling is that it's not nearly as affected by updates that introduce wild change like this; you can either use/make/create/harvest the item or you can't, full stop. Again, you should answer the question first - who's making you get that high level Herblore? Jagex? You? Not really. You only think you're being forced because it's an option to max your hits.

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
it should, but not in pvp. pvp is 100% based on combat, it shouldnt be based on things that people who enjoy the combat aspect of the game dont enjoy Then explain the notion of Super sets. Godswords. DFS. Slayer gear. ALL of that stuff comes from skillers. You can't sit here and tell me that this stuff could have come from someone or something else that wasn't directly related to skilling. If you wanted PvP combat to not be based on certain aspects of the game that players don't enjoy, let's start with abolishing Godswords. Truth be told, I've watched your argument, and you're just clutching at straws here gongusan. You're saying that potions shouldn't be used in PvP, but I'm willing to bet that just about every PKer has used a potion of some kind in PvP. You're also playing a lot into the "ultimate power" trap, as well - you want to be the most powerful player on the field at all times, and if you cannot be, then you complain about it. Face it. 5,000 players that had that advantage over you wasn't a big deal. Out of those 5,000, and if we could trust the polls (6% said they PKed actively), you're looking at a little over 250 players PKing against you that provide a legitimate threat. You can't seriously tell me that out of 60,000 players, those 250 people would be the most feared on the field. Lastly, it's too bad that you don't like training skills. Guess what? RuneScape doesn't revolve around PKing! Updates that are made to cater to PKers for the most inane reasons are rather disappointing...but I suppose it was to appease the minority. I've said it before, but I'd grudgingly accept the decision if the potions could be used in safe PvP, such that only a little pride was lost when you died against someone with Miasmic Barrage...

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
L[]l loads of pvpers on tif amirite?? Maybe you've got a point. There aren't as many PKers here on TIF. But at the very least, in order to appease the whiny opinionated PKers, they could've barred them from BH, and at least kept them in safe minigames. Seriously now...

Removal of new high level potions in PvP
I'll be having those poisoned weapons back, and those smithed rune items. Oh, and those godswords that have to be smithed together, I'll need those too. And that food, too. Oh and those prayer potions... While we're at it, let's get rid of Whips, Dragon Boots, and Dark Bows, too - they all come from the Slayer Skill.<_< Oh, let's not forget combat potions. We should take them out since they're a product of skillers, too. Do you see how flawed the reasoning is here? Truthfully I'm not pleased with this change. Those that put forth the effort should be the ones that stand above the rest of the crowd. I'd be okay with the update so long as they didn't take the potions out of safe PvP... I mean, c'mon! Only thing that would happen would be a little pride is lost if you died in Soul Wars...

It's a good offer. If you can join the MSDN Academic Alliance (which I believe was mentioned previously), not only is it free, but the license won't expire either. Even if you have to pay for it, paying only $30 is a helluva better deal than paying $250. Go for it.
