  1. as an embryo, they hold much more potential to cure cancer than if they were ever born. morbid? yes. true? yes. this is where a religious person would claim, "there is no proof it doesnt exist!". although there is much to disprove certain passages in the bible. there really isnt any cold, hard proof that there is no god. unless you count george w. bush. this is where that "innocent until proven guilty" philosophy starts to get on my nerves.
  2. if the sun blew up, we would witness the explosion 8 minutes later, as it takes light 8 minutes to travel from the sun to earth. its strange when you think that some of the stars you look at now might not even exist. this is as close as we will ever get to time travel. you are seeing something that existed thousands, if not millions, of years ago.

USC, UCLA, UCI, berkely, stanford. all california schools that are great. dont go to school in the east coast, its too depressing and cold. head west!
  4. id like to refer you all to the chart i posted on page 3. that chart should have ended this debate long ago.
  5. Yes, that would work quite well : until the drunken man returns home, whereupon his wife will nag at him, and we return to the original question.
  6. i hate how this topic days for days at a time

  9. i dont get the 35,000,000 kills achievement. is that an actual xbox 360 game? also, what the hell is /b/? ive seen it mentioned a lot on tipit.
  10. wrong. adult stem cells would be useful, but only for the person they were taken from. that person would be able to replicate his organs, etc. but their cloned organs would be little use to others in need. fetuses from unborn babies can be placed with a single cell from the tissue of a man with lung cancer, and soon they will have grown into a new set of lungs that are genetically identical to the original. see my above post.
  11. the problem with adult cells is that each cell is already specialized to a certain area. a cell taken from skin is pre-programmed to duplicate skin, while a heart cell will grow into a heart. stem cells from unborn fetuses are a tabula rasa (blank slate). they have the ability to replicate any cell they are placed next to. ie, lung cells for someone with emphysema.
  12. if i hadnt edited my first post, you would have read that its not everyone that believes in a god that stops this. its the damn bible thumpers and fundamentalists. also, no funding? are you serious? if permission is granted, money will be thrown at this research in ways unimaginable, but that un-named force continually blocks it from happening.
  13. ill edit it then. the only reason this technology is not available is because of religion. asking someone not to involve that in the debate is ripping the heart out of your thread.
  14. yes. with stem cell research burn victims can receive new skin, those in need of organs can simply have a copy of their own, and cancer can be effectively treated. stem cells can cure paralysis, missing limbs, being blind or deaf, etc. (by the author's request i cannot mention why this technology is not available, but you all know why already)
  15. nevermind then, apparently you're better at it. congratulations

No. Actually flicking the middle finger like up and down is the middle finger in the middle east. I'd know, being born in Baghdad, living in Doha, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia for 8 years. Looking at women is the WORST thing you can possibly do. As in, "checking them out" could probably get your eyes taken away depending on what you did. Stealing - hand surgically removed. Hell, if you RAPED a muslim women in a muslim country, consider your whole family dead. Anyways, I'm christian. i heard this from my dad who lived in iran for 16 years. he'd know living there twice as long as you did. either way, the countries you mentioned have different cultures than iran, so it might be different there.
