  1. I would disagree with this assertion because over time the disparities are growing smaller. One could just as easily argue that high income earners can generally be seen as coming from "old money" conservative families, or come from families with conservative views which in the past have allowed them into higher tiers of business, and thus create better opportunities for their children. It's like that study that said that taller people earn more money than short people, but conveniently forgot the reasons why the majority of tall people are tall - they are in wealthy countries and could afford better nutrition and health services. Generally, people who take up libertarian views do so because they perceive themselves to be at a disadvantage, whereas conservatives hold their values because they have the resources to be content with their station in life.
  2. If it's not about Vikings, death, conquest and/or power, it's not metal. There, I said it.

The sound quality is fine on my Nano. It really depends on the quality of your outputs [read], and the bitrate of the MP3s you put on it.
  4. Also, that's a really stupid reason for liking a company. It's along the lines of me saying I like France because of Charlemagne and the Renaissance. And I don't.
  5. Looks like another case of correlation implying causation.
  6. You take that back. Wetrix was a good game. Big Rigs, however, was not.
  7. Uh, no, it really didn't.
  8. Now that my underground lake (read: water-pumping death machine) project is complete, I have moved to the next phase of crazy ideas. I am sealing the area around my fortress with stone walls and ceilings, with only one retractable bridge and a heavily trapped side door for entrances. Once this is done, I will proceed to convert the entire fortress - stockpiles, living areas and all - into a utopia of glass domes and glass viaducts, while hollowing out the mountain and everything underground, leaving only the rock that is necessary to support my structures and walkways. Then I will fill it all with water, and I will have Rapture.
  9. Wiki is great for general knowledge and information on things you don't want to delve too deeply in. As an academic source, it still isn't accepted widely. If you do use it, as with all sources, for the love of god, cross-reference the things you read to make sure you're not getting a load of bull like what you wrote.
  10. I finished building my underground lake. It turns out that opening the hatch to take water out of the lake has the unfortunate side effect of flooding the entire first level of my fortress and the surrounding countryside. Luckily, a system of hatches prevented the water from trickling down any further than that, and I didn't lose anything except a couple of kittens and a baby. All my important stuff is down below - the first level is just for farms, rows of siege engines and non-essential workshops. It took a couple of months for the first level to dry up enough for my dwarves to start using it again, and now I've built a wall to channel the outgoing water flow to a more favourable path. I've moved the input/output control levers to an underground location so I won't have to deal with another unstoppable drain sequence. sonerohi, your plan has a good chance of accidentally flooding your fortress with magma. I approve of this and demand that you DO IT NOW. Remember to use bauxite floodgates/doors and bauxite mechanisms to power them. Other types of rock have a tendency to melt when exposed to magma. Oh, and for the love of god, make sure you have a way for the magma to drain away. Make sure that this drainage system is remote-controlled.
  11. You do move between levels using < and >. It should work unless you're playing one of the very old versions of the game. If you can't see anything but black when you move levels, that is because you haven't explored anything yet. Look on the right side of the screen - there's an indicator there showing you how far under or above ground you are. If you want to move your dwarves between levels, build a down stairway on your current level, move down one and then build an up stairway directly underneath the one going down.
  12. You get stone from digging out stone tiles, as opposed to soil or sand tiles. If you can't find any on one level, try moving down a couple of z-levels using stairs.
  13. HERESY. TAKE BACK YOUR BLASPHEMOUS WORDS AND REPENT. FOR THE EMPEROR. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS.
  14. I'm in the process of building a two-level 10x10 artificial lake underground. It's fed with one screw pump and an overland "pipe", and can be drained via a second set of screw pumps. I have hatches linked to levers to control water input/output during construction. It's roughly 50% done at the moment, because I've run out of fuel to make glass windows with - I've dug out the walls of the lake and I'm in the process of turning it into a giant aquarium for my dwarves. Once it's done, I'm going to try and find a way to turn it into a weapon.

A block absorbs the kinetic energy of a blow, whereas a parry redirects the majority of it elsewhere. Difference being that you don't want to block someone with a knife unless you have something extremely solid and not part of your body to do it with.
  16. I built ceilings out of glass blocks so I could grow outdoor crops underground. And that's awesome. Unfortunately, every time one of my dwarves who've developed cave adaptation walks through the greenhouse, they will start puking everywhere.
  17. It is a direct comparison by referring to the subject ('she') as something else, therefore, a metaphor.
  18. That is a metaphor, i.e. a form of figurative language.
  19. Jesus Christ, stop talking about /b/ in OT.
  20. Uh, they're shutting them down and reforming them into a different company for financial reasons, and they will continue to provide support for Halo Wars after release. Also, the Age of Empires franchise died after the second installment.
  21. DD is fine if you're in a country that has a working internet infrastructure that won't cap after one or two games, and can give you what you want in a shorter time period than it would take to drive down to the shop and buy it. So yeah, not Australia.

So kill her. Jesus Christ, why are you coming here to complain about it?

Beat the female for its insolence. Or you know, learn to take a joke.

Use lots of congealed glue for support columns. Technically does not add to the bridge's weight.
