I posted this is Tech and Computers, but I'm reposting here as well for more chances at responses. [spoiler=Looking for a New Laptop] I'm buying a new laptop, but I don't know a huge amount about what good laptops are out there so I thought I would ask you guys for help. Recommendations would be great, information on what to look for or even links to useful reading would be awesome too. Thanks in advance. Around $800. Less would be great, but not at the sacrifice of quality. Core i5 or i7 is preferable. I don't know too much about what kind of differences there are between the two. 4GB or 6GB RAM. Expandable would be cool. Just so it doesn't get outdated too fast. 500GB+ HDD. I've seen some stuff with small SDD drives as well, not sure if that would be worth it. Decent graphics card, probably a dedicated one. I don't know much about this. Moderately portable. I don't need something paper thin and 3lbs, just something that's not massive. 15.6" screen. Just my preference. I'm looking for something general use, with at least the ability to run some games smoothly. I'm not looking for a laptop that can play at Ultra High graphics settings, just that can get the job done (although if you can find me something for the price...). I've looked at a couple things on my own but I just don't have the knowledge to make an informed purchase. I've been looking at a lot of ASUS machines, since they seem to have the best specs for the price and I've heard good things. My current laptop is a Toshiba (Satellite A305, for anyone who's wondering. It's ~4 years old and I'm running Vista. Yup.) and it has been pretty solid for the time I've had it. I'm open to any and all suggestions. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834230535 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16834230534 Those two are what I've been coming back to so far, although I recently heard some lees than fantastic things about the 610M, specifically that it's actually worse than the Intel HD Graphics 4000, even though it's an integrated card, so I may reconsider. At this point I think I've written enough, so if there's anything I missed, let me know. Anyways, it's been a long time since the last time that I posted here. School has been busy and my life has been kinda [bleep]ed up as of late, so I'm pretty ready for Thanksgiving break. Only two classes today and I'm done for a week. I'm going to see Lincoln tonight and go out to dinner, and I don't have to pay for either, so that's going to be a nice treat. I hope everyone has been well here, I'm sorry I've been too busy to keep up with everyone and to check in every once in a while. Oh, another update on my life is that I've started going to the gym this past week. I took yesterday off but I've actually been working pretty hard. In three days I got my mile down to 7:10, which is probably the fastest it's been since I was a Sophomore in highschool. My goal was initially to break 7:00 by the end of the semester, but the way things have been going, I may shoot for 6:45 instead. On top of running I've done some lifting and core stuff with the help of my friends. I'm sure there's other stuff I want to talk about, but I can't think of what right now. I'll try to check in a bit more in the future.

Lots of studying to do tomorrow, since I've been a piece of shit for the past few days and haven't studied at all. I may have to skip my Krav Maga class, which sucks because it's a lot of fun. Either way, this next week should be good after I take my Calc exam, since my roommate is going back to China for a while and my girlfriend is going to spend the week with me. But yeah, I have to basically teach myself Calculus tomorrow, since the exam is Friday and I hardly know anything. The goal is honestly just a passing grade, although a B would be fantastic. I know I won't get the A because I'm honestly probably not going to be able to get the correct answer for a lot of the questions, but partial credit should be enough tot get by on.

Frugal Living
Frugal living is great and everything, until you have a significant other, especially one who is absolute shit with money. I'm pretty good with money when I'm on my own, although of late alcohol purchasing has gotten a bit excessive, even though I drink a small percent of what I pay for. Anyways, really cool thread. I'll look through it more closely when I have a chance. I'm always interested in new recipes. Especially cheap ones.

Ever been to a Casino?
Been in one, never gambled. Mostly because you have to be 21 and I'm not 21.

Minecraft General
It's been like a month since I played minecraft. Too busy with school I guess, as sad as that is. I'll make an effort to stay in this weekend and play a bit, maybe build something cool. The vast majority of my playing is just caving, but on my main world I have enough resources to last the rest of my life so I might as well put them to use.

Today...
I think I'm sick/allergies have kicked in. My throat was so sore when I woke up and I'm congested. In other news, I'm driving my friend home today. I really don't want to, but he needed a ride and I have a vehicle available to me. Although apparently the brakes went out on my sister's car and she has been driving mine. I would have thought someone would tell me that, but it's no big deal I guess. She's a good driver and I left the tank on empty last time I drove my car, so that means someone had to buy gas for me. Also, for anyone who cares about general life updates from me, I've had classes for three weeks now and they've been going well. Calculus II hasn't made me want to kill myself or anything else yet, so that's a good thing. I've joined two clubs, which is two more than last year. One is the outing club, which will probably be fun but I haven't actually done anything yet. The other is Krav Maga, which is probably one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Highly recommended to anyone. And that's my life for the past month or so.

That's a pretty awful picture, actually.

The circle confused me too, but I'm pretty sure it's a clock. I don't know, it wasn't in my room.

Nope, just a friend. Her boyfriend is the one in the background of the first picture.

First day back to school. I was a bit drunk, and as such these are the only pictures where I don't look ridiculous.

Today...
I'm moving into school tomorrow (today), in about ~11 hours. I'm excited but nervous. I have a roommate I know nothing about, and I really don't like meeting new people. All I know about him is that he's a sophomore or older, and he is most likely Asian, probably Chinese based on his name. Should be okay though. All my classes should be easy as [bleep], other than Calc 2.

Only camera I have is a cell phone, so the quality is awful, but this is me with short hair. Edit: Really bad quality. That's what you get when you have an old, non-smartphone for a phone I guess.

I'm cutting my hair today. Unless I chicken out, my hair is going to be rather short in about an hour. I'll post a picture, unless it looks like shit. In which case I will pretend it never happened and wear a hat all the time. Edit: Now it is all gone. I cut off probably about 6 or so inches from the back, going from about my shoulder to half an inch.

Live Concerts
Might go see Converge for the third time. It's always fun as hell and usually really cheap. Plus it's the closest they've played, only like a 30 minute drive.

Today...
Mornin' TIF. Woke up at 8:30 today, having my breakfast, which consists of no food. Don't know what I'm going to do with my day today. Maybe work out? That might be a good way to counteract all the horrible things I put into my body. Actually, I have to get my school shit together. That's what I'll do today. Pack stuff.

Today...
Man, if only it was just a day. Oh well, I've calmed down. I just wish they wouldn't tell me they were busy and maybe invite me along too. It's not like my ex and I hate each other. Or at least I don't hate her. Maybe she does hate me. Anyways, I told her that I'm going to leave her alone. If she wants anything to do with me than it's up to her. I need to move on. I wish she had just broke up with me and told me we were done, not said that we needed time apart and all that shit. But this isn't the place for this. I don't want to bring everyone down with my crap. This thread needs some happy, and quick. Edit: Totally unrelated, but I want to cut my hair. Sort of right now. Does anyone here know anything about cutting hair, specifically cutting your own hair? If so, I can give pictures of my own hair, and sort of what I want to do with it. Or more likely, I'll just make an appointment to get a haircut tomorrow because I'm afraid of [bleep]ing it up.

Tattoo general
I don't have any tattoos myself, and I'm not particularly looking into getting one at the moment, but I've been looking around and I've really fallen in love with this guy's work. I've never liked a tattoo style this much before. Actually, all the artists at http://tattootemple.hk/ are really awesome, in my opinion.
