You take school way more seriously than I do apparently. I didn't go to most of my lectures, never mind recording them and listening to them again  And on a more related note, I think my printer was like $45 and it has a scanner, decent quality and low ink usage. So by no means is spending a fortune on a printer something that you need to do (although if you're going to use it a lot, $100 is probably worth it).
  2. I've never heard that before. Which is good because I'd probably murder whoever said it. Same with using "learn" in place of "teach".

Printers are absolutely worthwhile. Even if you don't plan on printing more than 10 pages a semester. You can get a printer from walmart for literally $20-$40, and it's only that expensive because of the ink it comes with. It's worth it just so you can print without leaving your room. Plus it'll last you all of college, easily.

Don't buy your books until you know you need them (actually need them, as in you have assigned readings that are in the book and nowhere else). You can save hundreds by deciding what you will actually use. Rent them if you can. Check amazon, ebay, etc for them if you can't. Never, ever buy new. $400 for a book you'll look at twice is just idiotic. Make friends. Literally try to be friends with everyone and anyone, at least in your first week/month/semester. After that you can weed the people who suck out. And most of them will suck. But in the first bit of college, most people are going to be anxious to make friends, and it is the easiest time to do so because of that. If you miss out on it, it gets much harder for a while, since people are going through the process of figuring out who they actually want to associate with, and are less inclined to be friendly with new people. Go to class. Unless you don't actually need to. Chances are as a freshman, half of your lectures will be the professor reading to you off slides. And then they put them online. Discussion and lab classes are where you get understanding of the material. Lecture, in my experience, is frequently optional as long as you're willing to look at the slides on your own and maybe read the book. 8AM is not a valid class time. It's not the same as high school. You'll manage if you have to, but it's awful. 10 is the optimal time for a first class from what I've found, but as a freshman you'll probably be getting up earlier than that at least 3 days a week. Don't load up on as many credits as you can. 17 is the most you should take, with 14 or 15 being optimal as a freshman. Of course this depends on what you're like as a student. But if you're someone who had 8 classes in high school and think that taking 6 is going to be easy, it's not. On that note, if you're used to 40-50 minute classes, you're going to have a bad time... at first. I can't speak from personal experience on this one since I had 84 minute classes in high school for everything, but from what I've heard, kids with more traditional schedules tend to have a hard time with the longer classes. That's the general information that I thought up off the top of my head. I've only got one year under my belt though, so some of the older guys may very well know better than I do. Edit: Also, depending on how you are as a person, either make sure you have fun and don't spend all your time on school work or, if you're more like me, remember that you're paying to go to school and go to class once in a while.
  5. Are we talking paraplegic here? Amputee? Edit: [bleep]ing new page, always. Will go back and quote.

Subject change, because [bleep] school. Been looking into getting a new PC, because mine is coming up on four years old and has some problems. However, I'm poor as [bleep], and to get specs near what I want out of a laptop it's going to run me something like $1,000. In desktop form I can get everything I want and more for like $800, which would be beautiful, except as a student, plus with divorced parents whose houses I travel between very frequently, a desktop makes no sense. I think the solution is going to be to get a laptop that is at least a bit better than what I have now, and then convince my dad that we should get a new desktop. Could be tough, since we have so many computers in that house already (2 desktops and... 8? laptops) but most of them are old and only work because my dad likes to tear them apart and repair them. My plan is going to be proposing that we build a PC together, I think he might actually go for it then. He's finished all the projects he's been working on recently, so he could use a new one.
  7. Congrats. Even though it was obvious that this was going to happen :)
  8. Good luck everyone who applies!

    Makes me sad.
  13. Last thing I read was the Hunger Games series. It was good, until it became total shit. Aka pretty much the whole last book. It's like the author decided to throw every bit of plot and character development the first two books had established out and replace it with... well something awful. But yeah, I liked most of the first two books, except it had some parts that I found unnecessarily "Twilight-y" for a lack of a better descriptive phrase.

Yeah, you guys could be right. I don't know why it's just me, since a lot of other people who go away to school are getting hours. Oh well. Worst case I have a more free summer, but not much money. Best case I get a new job that is awesome.

I was away at school and my manager(s) keep forgetting to put my back into the system when I got back. And I work in a grocery store, where the majority of my coworkers do literally the minimal amount of work or even less, or they are mentally handicapped. I'm probably one of the only people who actually works hard and is competent. And I know everyone thinks that they're the best at their job and all their coworkers suck etc, but in this case I actually am better than most of them. Not that being the best employee at a grocery store is a huge accomplishment  But oh well, such is life. My schedule isn't up yet, so either I didn't get scheduled, again, or they're just being slow about it. I'm almost hoping I don't get scheduled so I can look for a job someplace better. Which is anywhere except other grocery stores and fast food places. Probably. Edit: About to go on a hike, should be fun :)

I find it hard to believe that cost of living is that much higher in Australia than where I live. I mean shit, I make $8.25 an hour, and I lose something like a dollar off the top to taxes. I'd kill to make $22, I'd have to work about a third of what I do for the same pay. Granted I've gotten 5.5 hours in the last moth because my employers are a bunch worthless [bleep] ups who can't schedule someone who's been working there for over a year, but give new employees like 30 hours a week and are hiring more people for the same position as me. I just spiraled into a rant about this, but I feel like it's completely unneeded. I'll summarize by saying that if I don't get scheduled for next week (which I should find out in the morning), I will be quitting. Not that it matters, since I'm replaceable, but they're going to need at least two employees to do it. It's not like my future is going to involve bagging [bleep]ing groceries. It's a dead end job, that I'm overqualified for simply by being literate. Also, no hate towards you, Tim. I'm glad you've got something going for you. I know it isn't the best, but it's a step in the right direction. Shit, I ranted anyways. Sorry guys, just a little annoyed because it looks like I might not get hours again next week.

I can ask if where the bathroom is in Spanish, does that count? Kidding, obviously. I took 5 years of Spanish, and at my peak could probably have a decent conversation in it, but now off the top of my head I only remember really basic stuff. And I speak English, clearly.

Going up to my grandparents house tomorrow to spend some time with them and my cousin, before she goes to Stanford for a year. I'm hoping to come back Friday night, since I have work Saturday and I don't want to drive 3.5 hours in the morning and then go to work for 6.

Not a good day. Girlfriend broke up with me. I am far from happy.
  22. And now I don't have a girlfriend. This is not my day.
  23. Sadly I'm used to it. I don't think she's ever been within 30 minutes of being on time for anything. At least not with me. And she still isn't here. Surprise surprise.
  24. I was supposed to go do stuff with my girlfriend at 3. It's going to be closer to 6 before she gets here. She said she had to go do something, so I assumed it was something important. She went to the [bleep]ing mall.
  25. That advertisement was bad. There's really no way of sugar coating it, it's like they didn't put any effort into it. It (advertising) certainly isn't a strong point of Jagex, but you'd think with their first venture into this type of advertising they would have put in some more time and resources. Pay a few people who have never heard of Runescape to watch it and give feedback. Shit, they could have gotten a second opinion from pretty much anyone and it would have helped. But yeah, disappointing. Certainly wouldn't get me to play.
