  1. If Kazakhstan disappeared tomorrow we'd sure miss the potassium.
  2. One criticism of mother Teresa (from people such as Christopher Hitchens and Aroup Chatterjee) is that she didn't ease the suffering of those she took in, only try to convert them to catholicism. She saw their being poor as being 'god's will' and so didn't try to change it. I was likening someone who didn't want to prevent a child living a life of suffering to that. There is no discrete line between fixing defects and 'upgrading' aesthetics. A child may be set to have a slight deformity which may in the future be fixable genetically - however whether it is a true defect or not is a matter of opinion, everyone could be slightly better looking in some way. It's a foot in the door effect.
  3. It does sound very much like the problem I had with FEAR. Does your system freeze/reset whilst playing the games at all? When you get the RivaTuner results, inform us of the range of temperatures during the period when the problem was occurring, and also the highest temperature. Or just host the log file and link to it.

What do you think the radius of his arc was? Or perhaps he meant Noah's arc welding apparatus.
  5. It's not as simple as a baby catalogue though. If you knew your child was going to have a terrible genetic disorder such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and you had the opportunity to fix that, you would really deliberately put your child through that lifetime of suffering? If so, you're getting sickeningly close to mother Teresa. It's a joke. One which some Brits will get.
  6. Of course it's going to be 'both'... Otherwise you could just get someone making an image with massive dimensions that had a small filesize. Example: I just experimented and made a 500x500 .gif with a filesize of 506 bytes.
  7. Go easy on your EBEs. Issued by the Brain Information Council.
  8. How did you get from diseases being cured to things being more dangerous than they used to be?

Ahh yes, the old theological trump card. The old theological trump card that only makes any sense if you are already a theist. Making it as redundant as the 'if you don't believe in god, you're going to hell' attempt at conversion.
  10. A webserver? A game server? A fileserver? A bechamel sauce server? An authentication server? A domain name server?* Why not give some information if you want help. *One of the server types I mentioned there isn't real. I'll leave it to you to guess which.

Yes, I've played 2 and 3. I don't really like them, I don't think they're bad games - they're just not for me. Like how a girl can be attractive but just 'not your type'.

I am not a huge fan of RTS games, but I just got DEFCON, which seem to be pretty good - if a bit of a steep learning curve. I am more of a turn based person, with my two favourite being Civilisation 4 and X-COM Apocalypse.
  13. I was reading earlier today and the one place I would least like to live (in fact I would give anything not to live there) is North Korea. The human rights records are abysmal. When visitors to the country have to stay with a government appointed guide and go only where they go you know the government has a huge amount to hide.
  14. The most important thing I'd do would be invest at least 80% of the money, setting myself up as a businessman. After that's all sorted out I'll have plenty more money throughout the rest of my life that I can spend on myself. That's one thing I think 'celebrities' should do - there are so many scandals nowadays, with so many people becoming nobodies again - instead of stupidly spending all the money they get they should stick their fingers in a multitude of pies so it will be impossible for them to fall down.
  15. I think he was posting it as a joke, to imply that Aus_Fighter is lying.
  16. I don't agree with that. I think that nowadays the GPU makes all the difference.
  17. What sort of weird? Can you describe it? Sounds like a graphics card hardware or driver problem. When I had my 8800GTX (I had a two XFX ones and one Sparkle one) it was overheating and causing all manner of artefacts - sometimes a messed up GUI, sometimes a chequered screen and a freeze, and once, in FEAR, bright pink and yellow walls and models. Try getting RivaTuner, set it to record a log of your temperature then play the game with it running. When you notice the problem happening, exit the game and look at the log. FYI: if the game crashes and you have to reboot - DO NOT START RIVATUNER - it will overwrite your logs. You need to go to the directory they're saved in and look at them that way. I have had three 8800GTX cards - all of which went back to the shop because they gave artefacts. Two of them the fan didn't start, one of them just gave the artefacts even though it was at a fine temperature. Now I'm just going to get an ATI R600.
  18. Did you even read the original post? It's a 1996 Mustang. Last time I checked we are in 2007. That is not new.
  19. I don't really see how that could be misinterpreted, and it's particularly relevant to this topic.
  20. Peace and tolerance my posterior.
  21. The Reservoir Dogs game. It had graphics like it was made at the same time as the movie. The driving in it was a huge unfunny joke that a drunk uncle tells at a christmas party. The dynamic was so simplistic that it made me want to sue the publishers for the time I wasted downloading it.

  23. Kansas has $2.65. The highest state is Washington with $7.93, and the highest single place is Santa Fe, New Mexico at $9.50 - still lower than the UK. Source: http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm Also in there is: Australia at AU$13.47 = US$10.50 - again higher France at ̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì8.27 = US$10.80 - again higher Ireland at ̢̢̮ââ¬Ã¡Ãâì8.27 = US$10.80 - again higher Those are just the ones I have the figures for.
  24. UK = ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã5.35 = $10.35 US Federal minimum wage = $5.15 = ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã2.66 More than double.
  25. I hate that contemptible pomposity.
