  1. Iraq? When was the last time you were outside ? He's pointing out that what the other guy said is wrong. The other guy implied that america attacked Iraq because they were responsible for the September 11th attacks. He was sarcastically pointing out that they weren't.
  2. Remember that that site isn't telling you the estimated value of the business, it's telling you the estimated value of the domain only.
  3. Why do you need a spyware detector that runs constantly? You should just have one that you choose to run regularly. You can safely disable that thing's startup entry either by looking in msconfig, or using a utility called autoruns from here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... oruns.mspx
  4. There is nothing controversial about that photo.
  5. Don't do this v v Don't do this ^ ^ It's totally stupid advice. Almost all of those things are required for normal computer operation.
  6. ...Related to referral links. There are plenty of games that use referral links. There are plenty of spam posts here made by people who 'play' those games. I suggest that when a user posts a referral link for such a game, you censor the game's domain. It's been done in the past, but I'm suggesting making it a matter of policy. It serves to deter further posting of similar links. The other part of my suggestion is to censor certain URL components related to referral links. For example, censoring things containing *.php?ref=* would end up censoring 95% of referral links since that's the format almost all of their URLs take. I run an HTTP filter for my own browsing (The Proxomitron) and I have it set to de-linkify anything that contains that string - in several years of usage it has not had a single false positive. No legitimate site has used that URL format that I have ever come across. Probably because using that format is only good for people wanting to gain something by you clicking that link. If you're concerned about blocking legitimate links, why? There are plenty of examples of gung-[garden tool] censoring on this forum - the word 'aryan' for example. Even when not part of a URL it censors it to [Caution]. No, I didn't find that out by accident when trying to spread neo-nazi propaganda, it was in the context of a legitimate discussion :P Whilst we're on the subject, censoring something entirely, so it only reads [Caution] doesn't really make sense - since the user isn't given the opportunity to exercise caution if you completely block the URL in question. That's just me being pedantic though.
  7. And this is the exact attitude the entire world has come to hate. Agreed. Well, certainly one of them.
  8. BitTorrent, Newsgroups, IRC, eMule, LimeWire, WASTE, Freenet, SoulSeek, DC++... need I go on? Newsgroups have been around far longer than any of the other services and have been used for piracy for far longer, yet they're still going. BitTorrent has been estimated to account for 35% of the traffic on the intarweb yet it is still going strong, only a couple of sites have been closed down - the rest shut down simply due to fear of being sued - not because of rulings. What's more it looks like it will be even harder to tackle with the advent of DHT trackers. It is impossible to stop copy infringement via filesharing.
  9. I was a bit concerned about Daemon Tools because I remember that had big problems with XP Pro x64. I'm also concerned about Samurize and MBM since they're both very important to me and they both rely heavily on low-level OS dooberries. It's a discontinued http filter that is a very powerful ad-blocker. I could potentially stop using it now there are decent FF addons to deal with things like that, Adblock, hosts files and so on. None of this is that big a deal anyway, since I will first be installing it on my secondary machine to see how things go for some months.
  10. How is that a reason that it's better than XP? MOST things work with it, that means SOME things don't. Some things which DO work with XP. So, all these things do work with XP but some don't work with vista. Ergo vista is not better in that respect. It is a reason it is worse at this stage.
  11. To me, football means a game in which the ball is controlled only using one's feet. Note for the pedantic: the goalkeeper is a valid exception. The game is still all about controlling the ball with one's feet, as evidenced by the punishments for using hands. Otherwise why would it be called football? I know very little about american football, but isn't the ball normally in people's hands?
  12. Can anyone who uses vista inform me of program compatibility? Some programs I rely on: VLC Winamp Firefox uTorrent Daemon Tools Trillian 3 Pro Samurize Motherboard Monitor GrabIT Photoshop CS Thunderbird Process Explorer The Proxomitron Logitech Setpoint Irfanview Picasa
  13. They did something nasty to frost mages, nerf-wise. They have made/are making it so that frost nova will break after any crit as opposed to having a chance to break after a crit. Not so bad, you might think. However, when you consider how much of an effect this has on them (they had some burst damage with ice lance like that) and the fact that so many have become shadowweave tailors, it is a case of 'respec and you'll lose your gear and your profession becomes useless'.
  14. Make an effort with your post and people might make an effort to read it.
  15. No, it isn't. Smoke is a colloid (particles suspended in another substance) and sweet drinks like Dr. Pepper are solutions of sugar, CO2 and so on. There's a difference between being suspended in something (a mixture) and being dissolved in something (a solution). Also, what I said about the amount of air in the room before was wrong. There is ABSOLUTELY no less air in a smoky room than in a clear one. The smoke takes up space that the air isn't.
  16. Definitely need a new power supply then, given the symptoms you have described.
  17. Back when EU WoW was quite young, my guild did a raid on the Crossroads. It was a very cool feeling to see 50+ mounted people charging across the Barrens and storming a pretty empty village. Hard bosses include Demon Gate in FF7 and Hetaera in WoW (Hydra in Azshara, since been nerfed I think - it was hard because I was doing it solo). Most disproportionately easy boss = Murmur in WoW.
  18. Something else I forgot to mention is the motherboard power connector. If this is a freshly built machine your friend may have forgotten to connect all the motherboard connectors to their relevant places on the motherboard. In a few systems I've made in the last few years I have forgotten the 4-pin motherboard connector and the machine wouldn't boot. It took me ages to work out why.
  19. Do fans start? Are there any beeps? If no to both of those questions (and that of the guy above me), you'll probably need a new power supply.
  20. Ask who? If you ask in the forum you can expect to have your head bitten off.
  21. Hah. You do realise that putting a plant in a smoky room won't deprive it of air at all? Do you think there is no air in smoky bars? How do you think people survive more than 10 minutes in a smoky bar without dying from lack of oxygen? There is almost as much air there as a smoke-free room. The difference in the amount of air is the mass of the smoke particles suspended in the air - which is negligible. Less than one cubic centimetre. Smoke is just smoke particles suspended in, you guessed it, air.
  22. Maybe that's because science is all about discovering what is "technically" correct. ~Parabola~
  23. My GOD! You saw me edit my post? My life is destroyed. You tout that as though it's some manner of weapon against me, as though it somehow makes me wrong. Why do you think it bears mentioning? And yes, it was a capitulation. I concede and prostrate myself before a man of pure, undeniable logic.
  24. You've got me bang to rights there. I can't. Flat out impossible. I did initially think she might have started eating unhealthily, or stopped taking adequate exercise, but I stopped and realised karma is a better explanation. The moment took me. Your reasoning was on a par with witch hunt reasoning of the 17th century so I thought it might be what you're accustomed to.
  25. As much as presents under your tree on christmas morn is proof that Santa is real.
