  1. Sweet, 45 days of free apps! I can't wait to get attached to a few and then lose them! But for the main issue, no, the BlackBerry doesn't have Wifi built-in. But, you can use DUN with a laptop to get the connectivity. There's quite a few things that I could say about the G1, but I'm not going further off topic. The choice is a hard one. iPhone has Wifi access, but a nearly impossible to use keyboard. On the other hand, the Storm has an easy to use keyboard, but if you don't have a great 3G connection in your area, you're pretty much screwed (although you could tether it to your laptop, I'm not sure how well this works). The Storm has a higher resolution and a much, much better camera than the iPhone, but it also weighs a lot more and lacks multi-touch. The lighter iPhone has a lower resolution, bigger screen (.3 inches larger), and more memory (up to 16gb, from the Storm's 8, unless they finally upgraded it to a possible 16GB). It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you're a texting freak, and you like to take pictures, and have good 3G coverage, go with the Storm. If you absolutely need Wifi, or...uhh...really need Wifi, then go with the iPhone.
  2. Unless you are fighting, it does. To unspam: High-level math. Tell me when I'll need to know what -3(X+2)^2+5 looks like on a graph? Anyone know which career benefits most from knowing how to use FOIL? Aside from becoming a math teacher, I'm not sure why I need to learn it.
  3. yea. can mods just IP ban these account makers? It's called a proxy, and dial-up. Dial-up gives you a random ip every time you go online, and the only way to stop them from getting on is banning a range if IPs, which may also ban innocent users, which is why they usually won't choose this course of action. Then we go to proxies, which are basically (usually illegal) ways to change your ip on the go. So if you ip ban them, they just move to another proxy. You can get access to thousands of proxies easily, and it's impossible to ban every proxy address, as new ones are being created all the time. These kids are bright enough to take advantage of this too, as you can see at least the chat log posted by..uhh...someone..lol, can't remember who. But anyways, IP banning isn't as simple as you people think it is.
  4. Just where do you get all that stuff? I might take the firecracker fuse out for a spin soon, just to see if it still works. If you bend it a bit, and light it, it spins and runs around. Good for scaring people. Nails - Home Depot. Black Powder - Online (about 10-20 bucks per pound at a quick look again)..that, or get some connections. There are a lot better ways to scare someone with a firecracker...Like an exploding toilet! Hey, there's something I can add to my list - Some black powder, assorted firecrackers (both store-bought and homemade), and other explosives of varying degrees of epicness. And don't make a pipebomb...They rarely work out well....*drifts off into bad memories*
  5.   I hope for your, and any future children's sake, that was a joke. No...There isn't one....(WoW and Frets on Fire are the only games I can play since RS has gone to hell...).
  6. Actually, 3.0.4 came out yesterday (or that's when I got the option to download it). I'll agree with getting FireFox though. Unless you're using it already? You didn't mention browser choice in your post. If you are using FF, try Google Chrome. I hear good things about it and RuneScape, but I haven't used it (don't play RS, or use Chrome, so I can't say for sure if it works, but I've read good things about it).
  7. The only way? Hardly. The smartest and easiest way? I'd say yes, but then again I've never tried it, so I can't say for sure, but I really can't see e-mail being used in something like this, it's just too much work and things to keep track of in different places. If you were just focusing on like 1-3 people, then e-mail may be fine, but this was definitely meant to get a lot of people (and it appears at least 10 or so people were duped from the announcement). Was that quitting part sarcasm? Or are you actually applauding me for quitting the game? I only included that because it may have seemed like because of my posts, I could have been responsible for this, but the last time I logged in to RS was 2 weeks ago to check the character creation screen for a project (I'm in game design at the tech center, and I have to do projects in English relating to my project)...Before that, I hadn't been logged in for over 100 days....and with Wrath of the Lich King now out, I doubt I'll ever want to return.
  8. IF you want to use hypercam, watch . In lieu of having people click the link (what with the recent hacking thing), you could just go to youtube, search for "how to remove hypercam logo" and click the first link, which takes you to the above video. It's probably illegal, and I'm not sure why it works, but it does, and it gets rid of the problem. The only other option I know of would be Fraps.
  9. Same outcome, different method. It doesn't have to be a database, but that's what I would do. Not only do many e-mail providers cap the amount of e-mails that can be sent and recieved, but it's easier to use a database because you can store username, old password, new password, and new pin, and maybe items gained as an ego boost. E-mail wouldn't be too practical for all of this, especially if you got a hold of many accounts and needed to keep track of them all. There are many ways to do this, I was just stating what I thought would be used. I don't actually know what the hacker(s) used, because I didn't take part in this...I have no interest in RuneScape anymore, I play WoW and Frets on Fire. Trade bans and membership running out came about at the same time, and I didn't want to renew it, and don't regret the decision.
  10. Actually, you can buy right capacitors from a small computer store and replace all the bulged ones and those beside them, potentially removing the problem. Worth trying especially when capacitors cost 50 cents and a new motherboard costs from 60 to 400 dollars. Capacitor is not equal to controller. We're not talking about a blown capacitor here, I know you can fix that. Not only is this not really replacable, but its vital to system function. It controls the keyboard and mouse, yes (which would also explain the mouse problem the OP said they had), but it controls access to the "High Memory Area". Without keyboard, mouse, or the ability to use DOS (which is what the HMA is used for apparently), then there is no real way to use the computer. [source]
  11. Alright. But just to clear things up for the future: Some beep codes vary in loudness. Some may be loud, some soft, and some could be a combination of both loud and soft. I didn't mean describe the loudness, I should have said volume, sorry. Also, there are meanings for both 5 and 6 beeps, depending on your motherboard model, so we would have needed an exact answer (and probably the motherboard model, but I was waiting to see if anything "panned out" before I went into that). Glad your computer is working again, but you should be careful. I would personally run a checkdisk scan and clean up some areas like the temp folder (you can use something like CCleaner to do this). Also, you may want to open up your computer (or get someone who is knowledgable with computer parts) and check if everything is seated properly, and nothing is melted/bulgy, or anything else that seems wrong. I just checked online, and 5 beeps usually means Processor Error (meaning overheated, broken, etc.), in which case you would probably be better off with a new computer. 6 Beeps may indicate a gate problem on the MoBo and mean you need a new motherboard, which means new computer time is probably around the corner.
  12. Dictionary attacks include misspelled words, so if you had hnad instead of hand, it would be picked up...And that's just dictionary attacks, that's leaving out brute force, which is a different subject. Your password is relatively safe, except from (good) keyloggers. Especially if it's kept encrypted (after all, it took almost 5 years for the 64-bit encryption to be broken, and we're up to what, 128-bit standard now?). You shouldn't be scared, but you should use acronyms in place of words, if you really want to be safe, and remember your passwords easier. If you have 35 passwords that are like 20 characters in length, that's 700 random characters to remember (which is 70-100x more than the normal person can memorize at one time). I'm not saying you aren't safe, but if you have to write down the passwords, or save them in your browser (definitely not a good idea, especially with FireFox), you may as well just have your password as abc123 or something like that. By using acronyms like what I described in my last post, you increase the chance you remember the password (make it about the site or something), while avoiding dictionary attacks, and increasing the time a brute-force would take to something so high that hackers would probably give up (unless you had something really important, and they had a lot of computers dedicated to the task, in which case not much would stop them). tl;dr - you're safe, but you should pick better methods for password creation IMO.
  13. What did the beeps sound like. You hear the BIOS beep codes. Letting us know exactly what they sounded like (from number of beeps to loudness) will help us figure out exactly what is wrong with the computer, and what needs to be fixed. You may not have to by a whole new computer, depending on the problem, but beep codes are rarely a good thing, especially if you haven't performed any upgrades (like RAM) recently. If you want to start looking at new computers, there are quite a few threads on the first two pages that can help you there.
  14. It's not clever. They copied colors and figured out how to do CSS, and write to a database or other file on a server...I could probably put together a decent scam site by the weekend if I really wanted to (and didn't have school lol), all I need is a host and the domain registration, which is easy to find.
  15. A few of my friends use the LG Scoop, and haven't had any problems. Decent pictures and video, and the keyboard is pretty well spaced and good. If you plan to do a lot of texting, I wouldn't jump at the iPhone quite yet. My teammate has one, and trying to look up a simple youtube video was quite a process, involving many backspaces. Without a stylus or something similar (which get lost easily), typing on it is annoying on a high level. I've never actually tried it, but the BlackBerry Storm sounds promising. It's from Verizon, and it has a touch screen like the iPhone, and it's 3G. Verizon has a great network, nobody I know has ever had a problem with them as far as phones or coverage issues (ie dropped calls). Plus, I've used a few BlackBerry phones before, and they have quite a few nice features, including an outstanding keyboard. So if that carries over to this model, the Storm would get my vote for a phone for you. I'm not sure when the release date is for it, but I know Vodafone is carrying it.. Here's the link to the storm - Link
  16. I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I have some long passwords for things like my windows logon, or important sites, but then there are throwaway ones for like ebaumsworld (because what's the most I lose there....e-rep points? Oh what a loss). I'll probably just make a random password generator for myself in VB or maybe C++ since I need the practice. The hard part is making sure it's hard to crack (ie using upper and lower cases, numbers, and symbols), but easy to remember...The remembering part is what gets me. The problem with your password scheme is that you use words. You shouldn't use any words in your password, for dictionary attacks. And so what if there are a million words. The fastest password cracker can do more than 76 billion passwords per second. Even going though all possible capitilization, it's less than a second to find your "longword". Go with something that is rather long, but makes sense to you, but nobody else..Maybe remember "I work at Wal-Mart 5 days at $7.00 per hour" as IwaW-M5d@$7...Pretty easy to remember, but a has upper case, lower case, numbers, and symbols, and is 11 characters long...That's how I came up with a few of my current passwords.
  17. I didn't get any keyloggers detected, and I have quite a few triggers, at least one of which would have been set off if there was one trying to get on my computer. I think it's just a simple scam where they have the usernames and passwords stored on a database (or something similar), and as people enter the passwords in, the username and password gets saved as an entry, and then the scammers reference that database and decide if they want the account or not. Simple scam really, but one that can dupe the unsuspecting.
  18. WEll, I suppose thats better then: "I have a lvl 70 dark elf on wow, wanna make love?" Saw that on a comic a while ago. Doesn't work - no such race. There are Blood Elves and Night Elves, but no Dark Elves...And that wouldn't have been Cyanide and Happiness would it?
  19. It's not a keylogger. They have the output of the textboxes box sent to a database on the server of the scam site. Then, they read the data from that database at a later time and get the account info. No keylogging needed, it's just a standard verification routine (without the verifying, since everyone has a valid account according to their scripting, if that makes sense). It's quite easy to do actually, it's getting the look that's the hard part about scams like this. Go perform a recovery, and make sure the link you are visiting is what it seems next time. Get WoT (Web of Trust) for FireFox, and/or McAfee SiteAdvisor (FF or IE). If you are in doubt, go to whee the link was mentioned, and copy it into the address bar manually. Sure, it takes a few seconds longer, but it's a sure way to stop redirect scams.
  20. I don't see anything wrong with some boards on 4chan. I frequent /wg/, and I've spent some time on /ck/, found some interesting stuff there (cheeseburger with glazed doughnut buns anyone?). Yes, I do wonder around /b/ (there's some interesting conversations early in the morning lol) occasionally, just to see what filth is spewing forth from it this month, but a lot of the boards are quite fine IMO. And removing starburst wrapper inside mouth = win. I envy the person who can do cherry stems, I never quite figured it out.
  21. A terabyte is quite a lot of memory. It's over 1,000 gigabytes...Your average game (I'll use WoW because I know the number) is 13gb...So you could install WoW about 78 times on a terabyte hd before running out of space...Going with the porn discussion, a..err..feature length? (2+ hours) movie is about 750MB, or about 1,350 movies for that HD...That's a lot of space. It may not seem like much if you have a large DVD collection and ripped everything to the computer (which is stupid IMO, but to each his own)... A Terabyte of porn though...He must use some crazy labeling or something. I have about 15GB in movies (Then again I keep some for my friend, and occasionally share/sell with other people) and deciding what to watch if I want to is a rather tough choice. I couldn't imagine 68x the options I currently have *gasp*. Hitler did a whole lot more than kill jews. He helped pull Germany out of a depression (or rather a complete economic failure and collapse) for one thing. Brilliant leader imo, if you can look past the jew part... If you wanted to be a ruthless killer, go with either Ivan the Terrible or maybe Stalin, for someone more modern. On the CP discussion, that's like ages 13- (maybe 10- or 8-, depending on who you talk to). From like 13-17 is JailBait...It's still legally child porn, but if you talk to someone who actually views it (which is a disturbing conversation, as I quickly found out), there is a huge difference.
  22. Sounds like a normal day for Gwar. I must try this though...And I have a group of people just crazy enough to do it...Hello weekend.
  23. You tried firefox in Safe Mode right? Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). Check the "disable add-ons" box when you run it in safe mode, this will determine if anything in the extensions is to blame. If it doesn't work, I suppose you can try checking all the boxes and then seeing if that works.
  24. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_up ... juke_phone 7th result in Google, searched for "get pictures off juke"... That's how my friend gets pictures off his alltel something or other, just email them to yourself with picture message.
  25. start->control panel->system->advanced->settings (under performance, first box). You can turn off shadows there. If that doesn't work, try switching out the monitor cables, maybe with the ones your dad is using if you can. If it works then, you need new monitor cables (the VGA cables) [hide=VGA Cable][/hide]
