  1. No, it's definitely lvl 91. I've spent a few months training from lvl 88, and I assure you, as soon as I reached lvl 91, I was getting attacked by lvl 159 random events. I'm 100% certain.
  2. yeah, try it to play at school. I used to google up runescape and take a link to the frame on the main page, which got around the block because the morons only blocked "runescape.com" If I have the extra time, I might. All my free lessons are held in the library for the purpose of private study, with librarians patrolling across both floors. Just like Dark_Aura mentioned, I'll also be taking a long 11-week break from RS. This is my HSC year, so I'll need no more distractions.
  3. 14,582 Really? I recently pulled out my Phantom of the Opera DVD and have since re-addicted myself to it. Rargh. Just a momentary phase. I'll probably switch it again soon, though... Hmm. Oh, and I'm female.
  4. I was mischievous when I was little, and so my mum would occasionally spank me with a wooden spoon. To me, it's had no negative effects. Being only 3 or 4, I wouldn't have had the conscience to evaluate the necessity of the spanking, but in hindsight... I think it helped encourage discipline. I think to ban spanking is a little bit ludicrous. if done occasionally, it shouldn't be considered child abuse. If done continuously and becomes over-used as a substitute for teaching a misbehaving child to behave, then, yes, that's abusing a child.
  5. Most of my friends don't realise I still play RS. But to the few who do know, they simply say - Hmm... - and get over it. We respect each other for our different tastes and hobbies. But occasionally, if a certain someone calls it a lame game in front of me, I ensure I put my debating skills to good use and give them a good lashing.
  6. It would be foolish of me to say to you, "I know how you feel, I understand, it's OK" because I've never been in that tough a situation before. But I'll try and keep this comment as thoughtful as I can. Firstly, about friends. I haven't had particularly 'close' friends since primary school. Old friendships were broken due to class re-shuffles. Now, yes, I have some great friends, but we usually don't talk about our personal problems - mainly topics in general. Also: I realise that after this year, I probably won't see most of my friends again. I'm heading in a totally different career path than most of my friends wishing to do science, so by not having really 'close' friends, it helps me cope better with the thought of leaving them. Everyone copes with problems differently. Call me a loner if you want, but I try not to bother others with my problems. Finding solutions on my own truly make me stronger, because everyone is alone at some time in their life.
  7. Ok without reading anyone else's opinions and commenting on them, this is how I've interpreted the question. Firstly, by simply rewording your statement, the actions of corporations are already being held to the same moral standards as the actions of individuals. I'm a Business Studies student, and this was an entire 20-page chapter called ethical and social responsibilities of business. Hence, I have no choice but to say YES. Taken from my textbook, "Socially responsible organisations want to structure their production methods to fit in with increasingly strict environmental regulations. Such firms take seriously their environmental responsibilities in raw material usage, packaging, waste treatment and energy consumption. Most organisations also want to engage in ethical business practices; to act honestly and morally... Not all businesses have adopted such an outlook. Some business owners still regard socially responsible and ethical business practices as a waste of money, the cost outweighing any benefits... Some businesses have become involved in lengthy and expensive court cases which attempt to resolve particular situations that are often centred around a number of ethical issues or socially responsible actions... [often resulting in] a deal of negative publicity and a deterioration in the business's reputation." (Chapman, S et al, 2006. Business Studies in Action: Preliminary course, John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd). From the same textbook: "Business ethics is the application of moral standards to business behaviour." A business may face the following ethical issues: fairness and honesty (they must obey all rules and regulations, e.g. OH&S - Occupational Health and Safety Act), communications (advertising issues), workplace relations and conflict of interest. Businesses can implement a Corporate Code of Conduct to encourage ethical behavious in the workplace. Businesses are pressured into doing this by: shareholders, governments, management, society, consumers and employees. That was just ethics. There's also the social responsibilities of a business, involving "obligations to the community, above and beyond making a profit, obeying laws or honouring contracts." Milton Friedman, established economist, wrote in 1970 that "there is one and only one social responsibility of business - to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game." Some arguments for socially responsible business practices: - enlightened self-interest - businesses have the resources to overcome some of society's problems - as a corporate citizen, a business has a responsibility to the rest of society in which it operates - businesses benefit from social improvements Some arguments against: - businesses focusing on profit maximisation, which increases society's wealth - profits are distributed to members of society anyway - such programs cost money; may not return tangible benefits - difficulty of pursuing economic + social goals simultaneously *taken from table 6.1 of the same textbook. I could continue this, but there's too much. Either way, it was good revision for me. :D P.S. While profit may be the predominant goal of a business, it is not the only goal. It's a common misconception. Rargh.
  8. I'm playing at home, on my desktop. I don't go back to school until next week, but either way, the website is 'blocked' by the IT staff at school.
  9. I'd award it an 8/10. I'm no longer fond of manga, so it doesn't particularly appeal to me, in that respect. But it's a clear image, nice shade of red. So yes, 8/10.
  10. 288,230,376,151,711,744 Hmm, lovely.
  11. Graphics: 9.5/10 Personal liking: 3/10 Avatar info: refer to note in sig. Text: 'the windows to the soul'
  12. I'll be watching the tennis on TV (the semis!) and having a barbeque for lunch/dinner. Might pop out to the shops in the early morning to see what last minute groceries I can get. Nothing special, but it isn't an important event in my calender.
  13. Well, it hasn't for me, yet. I play with breaks in between of up to 4-6 months. So even if I temporarily grow tired of RS, over time, I'll grow to like it again. Hence, for me, there is no definitive point of boredom, etc.
  14. Drumsrock. She was the first one to introduce me to RS way back in 2002, but stopped playing just before RS2 came out. Still, I keep the name on there for sentimental reasons.
  15. 14,626. Well, here's a question: when that occurs, should you: a) follow the arithmetic sequence from the person above you - or - B) jump to the number it should be? I chose a) before. Not my fault for keeping the sequence seamless.
  16. Each subject is fully assessed and examined. The HSC (higher school certificate) system is based on a number of 'units' instead of a number of subjects. Each subject is given a unit value. I did 12, min = 10, max = 14. The more units = the more exams. So, for year 11 last year, I studied: Advanced English (2), English Ext (1, separate exam), Mathematics (2), Maths Ext (1, separate exam), Business Studies (2), French (2), Economics (2). But the school also offers another 25 electives. Hence, the need for 2 weeks of exams. :D Confusing, at first, yes, but we get used to it.
  17. Because their one-child policy isn't working. Why did they build the great wall of China? (People from Aus should know this.. :D )
  18. 'Graphically changed random event'? Umm, are you referring to the graphic updates for undead monsters? i.e. random event zombies?
  19. At my school we only have 1 set of exams - at the end of the year. However, this was compromised by continuous assessments, so I don't know which is better. 2 exams a day? Some of us had 3 exams back-to-back last year, even when spread over 2 weeks. I remember the first week I had 2 exams (with 3 days break in between), then during the second week I had 5 exams (2 doubles, 1 single), each exam being at least 2 hours each. It was crazy.
  20. Stereotyping isn't wrong, if used properly and in the right context. It's a method of simplification, just like some tools used in economics, which are pure simplifications of reality used for analytical purposes. Just as others have said, there are positive and negative stereotypes. What if you used a positive stereotype in a sarcastic manner? I guess it works both ways... In short: no, I don't think stereotyping is wrong. I think it's one of our methods to help cope with such a diverse and complex world.
  21. I concur. No matter how you defend yourself and justify your actions, I'm sure the intention is still there. A series of events that long is rarely coincidental, I think.
  22. Hmm, very innovative indeed. Noughts and Crosses has always been a classic game to play when bored, but I don't know if I would personally take the time and set it up in RS. The gameplay is limited by the burning time of the logs, and, like chess, I take my time to play. So... :? But yeah, interesting idea.
  23. I think you should try posting this in General Help & Advice. You should be able to find some answers there. I'm F2P, so I probably wouldn't be able to help out much...
  24. Good grief. RSN: sauuyzajkuy sanmui8ikpo (courtesy of my left elbow)
