Eh? My autocasts have stuck no matter what I did. Same with mine. I am almost positive that this was due to a recent update.

Tribute to Guthix and New Combat Abilities
I haven't done the event yet, but it sounds neat. Though, it's a shame that the Guthixian sword override only works on 2h Swords and not mauls too (not that doing so would much sense) because I would have liked to use one over my Chaotic Maul. There just aren't very many 2h sword options for high levels aside from Godswords (which are inferior to Mauls).

I get 1 almost everyday, but unfortunately, my streak of adventurer rerolls has come to an end. Not that I am complaining, I got 5 adventurer rerolls last week.

Whatever they did to autocasts, it's stupid. I have to turn it back on every new floor if I am dungeoneering.

That's unfortunate. I know this probably doesn't help now, but what I try to do is, as soon as I get enough resources for an armour piece (and if I have the scrolls), I make the armour right away. That way I can never accidentally make multiples.

I am not sure what you're trying to say here. The point of the Rune armour argument was that even when it was the best armour in the game, it was affordable and accessible to all provided that they put in some effort. The point of bringing this up was to countervail against Xpx's statement that such a state of affairs (the best gear in the game being reasonably challenging) was never the case. The DIY argument is completely impractical when it comes to boss drop gear. Most people do not have the time nor patience to go hunt Nex in teams with LS for several months and pick up all the pieces that way. That's insanity. In my younger days, I certainly did camp nearly all the bosses out there (as late as 2011) such as Gwars, Nex, Corp, DKS, and so on to great sucess, for months on end, but I always resented that this was the only way to obtain such items (outside of gambling) and I have always maintained that this should be rectified.

The conversation has moved far beyond the scope of the latest T85 gloves into a far more general discussion about things far more important than gloves.

Do not make assumptions which you cannot possibly hope to defend. If you must know, I have done merchanting in my day, I have also done staking, and I have also done boss hunting, making several billions from these activities. However, unlike you, I realize that the game should have a rational and reasonable form; so even though I could make hundreds of millions if I chose to do so, I still don't think that's how the game should be. The game should not revolve around the whims and abilities of a few parasitic and detached players. I have been more than willing to put time into such things in the past, I simply think that RS should not be this way. All the examples that I cited prove the exact opposite. If you were honest, you'd at least acknowledge it, and accept it, or at least try to challenge them in a more substantive way than mere hand-waiving. To add on this, quite literally, all the cases that I cited only became more accessible with time and there substantial periods of time (months or years) where the best gear in the game was accessibly to all. That's certainly different from the top gear being only available to the a small section of the most elite players. I, and most players, in fact would much rather prefer shops than the tyranny of wealthy parasites. In shops, weapons/armours could indeed be sold for tens of millions (but be more reasonably priced than things currently are) and also serve a deflationary role. This is hardly true. Drygores and Virtus Wand for instance offer a substantial boost. Drygores are so powerful in fact, that they completely distort the combat triangle and obliterate anything and everything regardless of their specific weaknesses. Because of Jagex's idiotic insistence, most wands, save for Virtus, are utterly useless.

It certainly should be. Runescape was initially designed so that as you progressed you'd unlock suitable content for your level. It was never intended that the only way to make decent money and unlock content for your level bracket would be to actually do activities that were incidental (merchanting, staking, gambling). There's a reason why those activities were never officially promoted as something that's expected of you to do. The Official RS guides by Jagex, after all, make little to no mention of such activities (aside from Staking, and even that is discouraged). This is simply false empirically and historically. RS has indeed had times such as these. Back in RSC and early RS2 after Bluerose's reign ended, it was indeed possible for level 40's and 50s to be walking around in Rune armour (I was one of them). That was the best armour in the game and it was easily accessible for all of its intended audiences. Dragon Weapons were immediately accessible to people who could wield them, provided they put a little bit of effort in (as they all had fixed shop prices, as did Rune armour). Then Dragon armour came out and it was marginally better than Rune (individual pieces were +4 over their Rune counterparts). They were expensive to be sure, so they functioned as a novelty item for higher levels but there was not much need for them. When Barrows and Whips came out; they were initially somewhat expensive but they reached a floor of sorts and with a decent effort it was extremely possible for level 80's to get them with some hard work (Again, I was one of those people who had a Whip and Guthans while being a level 85ish character). The same was the case for when God Wars came out. It was extremely expensive initially but God Wars was accessible to level 90's in teams and it was quite easy to make lots of money and afford the pieces. It was not until the Spirit Shields came out that the first super expensive, out-of-reach item was made.

That's only because of the era of Skill Capes, Zarfot's obsessive XP era, Bonus Weekends galore, and the 200M trend. The value of XP was never always high, nor was it always stressed that all players should be aiming for 99s and 2496 -- these are all recent developments (in the last 4-5 years) that Jagex started without any forethought. So? There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to achieve a goal. You act as if before the trends I described that no one had any goals. Goals are often socially defined and set, in Runescape that incentive structure is Jagex. I am criticizing them for setting what I think are wrong and problematic incentives. I am not criticizing the concept of goals, or proposing that we should all not have goals. How goals are set and what consequences they can result in is not something that can merely be dismissed, in certain situations it matters what goals people are aspiring to, and why they are doing so.

It should be available to people whom it is intended for if such people have put a reasonable effort into it (by that I mean level 70 armour is for people with 70's in stats, and level 80 armour is for people with level 80's in stats and so on). That is how RS initially was and it remained that way for most of its existence. Now we have this bizarre trend where skills cannot actually generate wealth for players, and the best gear is restricted to a few parasitic players who stand around merching/staking/gambling. Being a reasonable challenge should not entail being ridiculously hard and requiring hundreds of hours to obtain a few items. It's ridiculous that someone with Maxed Skills, and Maxed Defense can only afford level 70 armour. It's a fundamental contradiction of the game that skills (you know the actual content designed to make you progress in the game) is disconnected from the process of wealth creation. Mod Edit: Split from The World Wakes thread as a worthy topic of discussion beyond the scope of the original thread. As evidenced in the posts that have already been moved, there are obviously very strong feelings on this subject from some of our members, so please remember to try and keep a level head, taking deap breaths while counting to 10 as needed, so as to prevent the discussion from getting overly heated or personal. ~@Randox

What's wrong with playing RuneScape, honestly?
I play Runescape, have for years, and take it relatively seriously. However, I have no illusions that it is basically an extremely addictive, destructive and unproductive activity that has a myriad of problems that it could inflict on those who do play it. And then of course we still have no idea how much we will discover about the psychological effects of MMORPGS years from now. It's a vice. The social pressure against it, however cruel it may seem, stems from rather logical and rational grounds. Don't delude yourself into thinking this isn't true. Play Runescape if you enjoy it (that's what I do), but do so without any illusions.

200M in all Skills
If by that you mean you were not serious, then, yes, I didn't get it. It's hard to detect emotions on the Internet particularly when in a serious discussion something is posted as a joke despite the ability of that something to be equally serious as well. By that I mean, there are some people who would probably maintain the same position that you did but in a serious fashion. So it's hard to distinguish.

200M in all Skills
If it's possible, then how come it hasn't been done yet? I don't even know why some people are arguing over the most trivial and pointless things. Suomi might not have literally gotten 5B, but he certainly proved that it was possible (this cannot be reasonably disputed). The thought among players was that for years that no would ever get close to 5b, that Suomi has gotten 99.9% of the way there proves that it is in the realm of possibility. You can argue that Suomi hasn't actually completed the task, that's debatable but to argue that Suomi didn't emphatically prove that 5b is possible is insanity and nonsense. It's the same scenario as starting out as a level 3 and thinking it's impossible to get to 138 Combat or 2496 total. By the time you reach, say 2450 total and 135 combat -- you might never actually complete the journey, but you know that if you wanted to, it's perfectly within the realm of possibility. In Suomi's case, it's not even that far, it's literally 1 experience. I don't want to be harsh here, but anyone who argues that 5b isn't possible (which is different from it being highly probable or actually happening) is completely ignorant of the concepts of possibility, or worse yet, a malicious troll. Possibility =/= highly probable or actually going to happen. It only implies that a certain act could happen. Suomi might never get 5B, but you cannot dispute that if he willed it, he could get it at any moment.

[hide]That falls under scenario c). I think scenario b) is the least likely, while a) and c) are plausible but c) more so. I think the scenario that you propose seems to be quite plausible. [/hide]

4th March - The World Wakes
[hide]I agree that the Dragonkin are extremely powerful, but Lucien became arrogant and foolish. And prior to his ascension, Lucien was not a particularly noted Mahjarrat (though he also pretended to be weak, but he never known to be strong either). Sliske on the other hand is known to be powerful and possess arcane arts (his mastery of the shadow realm) and extremely clever and knowledgeable and meticulous. I think it's possible he could have killed one of the Dragonkin but that's unlikely. Also, Jagex seems to be hinting that all 3 Dragonkin will return. Therefore, the likely scenario is that Sliske stole the staff via his stealth and power of the shadows, or he bargained with the Dragonkin, via his power of persuasion/slippery tongue. [/hide]

4th March - The World Wakes
Well in Kerapac's journal (the dragonkin journal dropped by QBD where most of our knowledge about dragonkin comes from) Kerapac states he intends to kill Jas.. I think that's pretty clear they believe him to still be around. [/hide] I know my idea is a bit crazy, but just something to chew on. [hide]That only suggests that Jas is still alive (which no one really doubted), not that Jas is presently on Gelinor or, worse yet, is actually Sliske. If Jas was still on Gelinor, he probably have defended the Stone himself, or appropriated it for his own use. [/hide]
-
4th March - The World Wakes
[hide]Where did the Dragonkin act as if "Jas was still around?" I don't remember seeing that. If so, that's very interesting. My personal feeling is that Sliske either a) stole the staff from the Dragonkin, b) killed one of the Dragonkin for it, or c) made a deal with the Dragonkin [/hide]

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
This sort of thing has forced me out of the Pincers. I keep failing in the 70 region and losing 500 steel per mission. The only way to do the Pincers is to force your way through it. Get the Rudder first, then work on Crew. Even with all the upgrades and best crew possible from the Bowl, the Pincers is just extremely difficult to acclimate to. There is no other way, and it is quite possible. We've all done it after all. Best of luck, Alg.

Just got another adventurer reroll today (that makes #4 this week), and it gave me another scroll. Wonderful. I did fail a 87% scroll mission the other day though, what nonsense.

Libertarianism. Non aggression principle. Free market. Anti-statism. Though I am not a Libertarian and I don't care for any of those things that you have posted, even by Libertarian standards what Jagex is doing is perfectly acceptable. Remember, Runescape is not public property but private property. According to Libertarian tenets, as long as what Jagex does is consensual and without the threat of explicit violence (and of course it is consensual because we all signed their conditions/terms on day one without any aggression from Jagex), then they can do whatever they want because it is private property. In fact, according to the terms that we have agreed to, we don't even *own* our accounts, Jagex does. So if tomorrow they decided to log on, go to GE World 2, and ban everyone wearing blue colours, they'd be perfectly allowed to do so by Libertarian standards. So according to Libertarianism, it's inappropriate for the Government to set restrictions, but private individuals certainly have the right to do so. For instance, Libertarians would oppose the government banning alcohol, but they'd certainly support my right to ban alcohol in my house because it's private property. The same goes for "Free Markets". Runescape is not a public market/public domain/country, the entire operation is, in other words, private property of Jagex. Libertarians would oppose restrictions on the public market, but if I decided that on my private property (my house) that no one could gamble, that'd be acceptable according to Libertarian principles. Libertarian tenets/logic actually supports what Jagex is doing, rather than opposing it. I also forgot to add, that Jagex is not the "government" or "state" of Runescape, so the question of statism doesn't even enter into the equation (neither does the question of democracy). Runescape is not a country or a public domain, it is private property. Jagex is the private ownership of Runescape. I find it amusing that you've failed to recognized this - the tenets of your own ideology (I assume you're a Libertarian).

I agree entirely that ultimately as long as Free Trade exists, gambling will exist in some form or another. My personal view is that the existence of gambling is a price well worth paying in exchange for Free Trade. My point generally was that if Jagex wants to ban gambling, then they will need to take rather serious measures instead of what they have been doing so far.

I don't accept these arguments about "the freedom to gamble" at all. As players of the game, or owners in the case of Jagex, we certainly have every right to offer input into how we think incentive structures in the game should be, i.e., how to make money, how fast, how much, etc. etc. Jagex has the right to set community standards, and as members of the community we also have the right to offer our sentiments on such matters. Banning gambling is fair game and certainly a legitimate thing if we choose to go that route.

I have heard conflicting accounts of this: some people believe they do stack, while others think not. Totems in general give a very small boost that in most cases doesn't amount to much. Regardless, I have 4 telescopes.
