  1. He's playing again? Again? He's always been here, he's never left. He's always been number 1. You must have just awoken from some nightmare where this was not the case.
  2. Not only is this move nonsensical on the grounds that H/C to this point has not been against the rules (nor necessarily against the "spirit of the game"*) but this move is far too delayed. H/C has been out for how long, now? Jagex has basically, quietly given it their blessing to continue for so long by letting it permit. It seems silly to be just now take actions after all this time. Putting that aside, even if they have genuinely changed their minds now, surely they should have done it appropriately? By that I mean, proscribe it first, then start muting/banning people. Don't just randomly start muting people for an activity which you have intentionally turned a blind eye to, for so long. At the very least, give them an opportunity to stop. So even if I agree with the principle, the way that they are implementing it is most disagreeable. Also, it is not enough simply to ban advertising of such activities. The activities themselves, must be forbidden (meaning, remove the randomized ability of flowers and similar items). If you ban advertising the ability, but still allow the material means by which gambling takes place, then all you're doing is pushing this into the black market -- that's even more dangerous, people will then start going to pernicious and vulturous sites or IRCs. Also, criminalizing H/C is not good enough, as far as I am concerned. Jagex has some nerve banning private methods of gambling while still operating their avaricious Dueling Arena. I have absolutely no problem with removing Gambling from RS for the interest of players, particularly younger players. It's a commendable move. But if that's what we are aiming for, then staking, too, must go. * The reason I said it is not necessarily against the "spirit of the game" is because staking has been a part of RS for years. RS has always had gambling (aside from 2008-2011). It's a little bit farcical to suggest now, while the Dueling Arena still exists and has existed for years, that gambling is against the "spirit of the game".
  3. [hide]I thought it was Jas, not Guthix, who created the Dragonkin and bound them to the Stone? [/hide]
  4. [hide] The Sliske-Dragonkin alliance is looking more and more plausible. See, I had initially thought that Sliske returned to the Ritual site and gathered the Staff and got the orb through killing Glacors or something, but upon checking back the ROTM, it seems the Dragonkin flew away with the Staff. So Sliske must have made some sort of bargain. The scenario suggested by Noobzy also seems possible but not plausible: that the Dragonkin might have wanted Guthix dead for he too was a "False User" (It is doubtful that Jas wanted Guthix to use the stone). But Guthix used the Stone thousands of years ago. I think the Dragonkin would hardly be worried about that now. I mean, the Player is also a "False User" but the Dragonkin let him live. Where is this discussion about Zaros looking for a host body coming from? I don't remember reading about that in the lore, did I miss something? Was it directly mentioned in the lore, or is it a passing speculation on the part of players? I am of the view that Guthix's powers came from within him rather than any biological or molecular structure, like his body; thus he was able to assume any form that he wanted. Therefore, his left-over body can't be much use since it has no Godly powers within it, it's no more useful than any other bodies. [/hide]
  5. I have to say the rest of March looks awfully dull (though I think the Easter event *might* be enjoyable). It will be quite some time before my blood pumps like that again in anticipation of a teaser.
  6. It's a completely symbolic achievement. He is close enough that 1 experience truly is negligible. As for your analogy, it is ill-suited for this context. Suomi is way past the realm of levels (he is 2,496 total now, and he will be 2,496 total after 5B), there's nothing that he can do at 5B xp that he can't do at 4.99B xp. The achievement was a symbolic and informal achievement as opposed to an official one. From the viewpoint of the game, he is no better than a maxed account with 500M xp. The point was can someone in the game truly no-life it to the tune of getting the maximum experience in the game -- Suomi has essentially done that minus the 3 seconds that it would take for him to get the last experience point; for most people, that is good enough. The last experience really is negligible. As for Suomi, my personal view is that by the time any one of the front-runners actually come close to narrowing th gap (currently they are all off by hundreds of millions of experience points away, they're not even close), Suomi will probaby log on and get the last point just to cement his name on the highscores. He will not allow himself to be defeated.
  7. Actually, that's precisely how my quest went. I didn't use any guides and was able to dispose of the Automatons really quickly. Edit: Another thing I didn't quite know post-quest was whether you could fight more than 1 at a time or not (I assumed they work similarly to Glacors). In any case, Automatons was just a single anecdotal case that was fresh in my memory. It was hardly the sole reason as to why some specials might be problematic.
  8. You are using range... Stand a bit further away and avoid the ground stomp. Well, yes obviously that's the ideal solution and that's what I did for most of the trip. But that happened at the beginning of my first range trip where I was still adjusting (also, I had unwittingly attacked multiple Automatons with an area-special). I only offered it as an example, Automatons were probably a poor example since that scenario can be avoided, but I think you get general idea.
  9. I have had the problem described above by some, mostly when using Rapid Fire. It's really only a problem when using it at sohpisticated bosses. So for instance, I used it the other night against Automatons, which retaliated with their ground special attack. That hurt quite a bit...
  10. Just another adventurer reroll, 3rd day in a row that I have gotten an adventurer reroll from the daily Random event. I got another scroll + 5 Chi mission. I think my luck is slowly turning around.
  11. More thoughts on the lore: [hide]Guthix's vision for the future seems to be one where Gelinor is defended from the onslaught of the other Gods and is free of them (including Guthix himself). Indeed that seems to be the mission he has entrusted the player with. Given what we know about the Gods, that they are for the most part all power-hungry maniacs, particularly Zammy, Zaros, Bandos and Saradomin -- that seems like a noble goal. However I can't imagine a more duller thing for the player. If the mission succeeds, then that means Gelinor is free form the Gods, I don't know but I always liked the idea of the Gods as being part of the world rather than banishing them forever. It takes a lot of the magic out of it. Also, I have to say that when I first saw the teaser for TWW, I was appalled by how they portrayed Guthix (aesthetically), I thought it made him look a barbarian/freminik rather than some celestial being. But I have to say that the look has really grown on me. It makes a lot more sense, I guess than the Disney view of things where the good guys are handsome and pretty and the bad guys are ugly. Guthix's look embodies that nature aspect of his being quite well. He doesn't just assume handsome forms, he assumes all sorts of forms. I have really grown to like his look now. I like the fact that Guthix has a backstory, he's a particular person from a particular setting and what not, rather than the traditional view of God(s) where they are merely timeless beings floating in space. Instead Guthix is, I guess, an alien/race with a tragic past that sought refuge in Gelinor. I also found the choice of Guthix's guardians quite telling. The motif of balance was found there again. While they were rather talented in their own unique sense, none of his guardians were given too much power which is a mistake that other Gods made (Zaros and Zammy). So Guthix never ran the risk of being supplanted by one of his own. Zaros allowed the Mahjarrat to grow too powerful, and he chose a race that was already quite powerful to begin with. Naturally, one of them eventually usurped his Godhood (Zammy). Likewise, Lucien tried to usurp Zammy's power, or at least challenge it. He tried to position himself as the leader of the Mahjarrat, and had he acheived Godhood, it's unlikely he would still obey Zammy (as they would be equals at that stage). I guess Guthix avoided that scenario quite well with regards to his own troops. [/hide]
  12. And what if one never does the quests, yet still does TWW? Still doesn't really explain why you should be able to do the quest in the first place, without setting in motion the events that lead to it. ---------------- @Sylpheed It appears we have reached an impasse. Agreed then, that's more than fair.
  13. No, I said nothing of the sort. I do not have problems with people disagreeing with me, but if they intend to respond to me, they should at least be responding to things I actually said. I am not objecting to Sylpheed disagreeing with me, but rather responding to me with irrelevant things. One of the points (amongst others) I brought up was that it should not be logically possible for all these characters to be there in this new quest unless you have completed certain previous quests which propel these characters to this particular present point in time. This is what Sylpheed had to say about this: What does this have to do with what I initially said? My problem isn't that the lack of requirements will simply confuse people on the lore if they haven't done the previous quests (though this is a problem too) but rather that if you haven't done the previous quests, then the events which make the events in the current quest possible have not occurred. For instance, if you haven't done Desert Treasure, then Azzandra should still be trapped in the Pyramid, not running around plotting to bring Zaros back to the world. If you haven't done ROTM, none of the Mahjarrats should be rejuvenated. This is a complete mockery and mess of the narrative structure. He then went on to say the following: This is about as good a response as the previous one, it doesn't even pretend to acknowledge anything I said, yet is posed as a response to my original post any way. My line about "not bothering to read my post properly" was actually an ironic reply to the last part of Sylpheed's post where he accuses other people of not being able to read properly. It was not an attempt to say "I'm just perfect, as is my opinion; if you don't agree with me, you're illiterate". He came in with a somewhat dismissive attitude about my caricature of Jagex by talking about things completely irrelevant to it. That is why I accused him of not having read my post properly.
  14. I have been getting lucky, somewhat, lately. Today I got an adventurer's reroll so I was able to do 2 scroll missions. This also happened the other day. In addition, I have gotten scrolls for the last 2-3 days (from the normal daily rerolls) so that's good as well. I have got a plate mission (5), and I got 2 trade good missions that were for 2 each. Not bad I guess. If I complete the second scroll mission, I will be at 29/36 armour scrolls. Not bad.
  15. You are the one who seems intent on starting pointless arguments. If you had truly actually understood the post in question, you'd be responding to my criticisms of the lack of consistency, plot holes, illogical narrative structure, the dumbing down of requirements, and inappropriate incentive structure. Those are things I brought up, instead you chose to quote me and talk about points which have nothing to do with me and which I did not bring up.
  16. Finally Jagex is actually not making something easy, but the problem is that it was the wrong skill. The difficulty and the time effort required to level slayer pre-EoC was appropriate I felt. Though it's possible I could be wrong and it was overpowered, as I haven't done a slayer task since 2010. Perhaps someone with a bit more perspective than I could share how they view pre-EoC and post-EoC rates
  17. And it isn't my fault either that you can't be bothered to properly read my post either, choosing rather to respond viscerally rather than intelligently. If you haven't understood what the main point of complaint is, then any discussion with you is hopeless.
  18. A RFD style setup would have saved us from this mess.
  19. Actually I'm in quite a happy mood today. That was just my attempt at some satire (I was satirizing the ridiculous new Storyline/plotline system). As for increased XP rates (which don't really belong on this topic but I will answer anyways), my view has always been that it's perfectly fine to make skills easier over the time, but this must be done in a reasonable fashion and without crossing certain lines. There's a difference between releasing a new training method that gives say 20K more XP per hour over the previous method, and releasing Bonus Weekends where thousands of people get millions of free xp experience each and free XP is litered everywhere in D & D's and the SOF. There's a difference there that is self-explanatory.
  20. Coming next week, a brand new update whose implications and ramifications are so far reaching that we wanted to make it accessible to everyone as we will be building future updates on it. Without further adieu the following skills from levels 1-95 will become "part of the past", meaning the game will treat you as if you have acheived those levels regardless of whether you actually have or not. If you happen to be anywhere from level 1 to 95 in the following skills, you will be able to do all the things that one would be able to do if they were at level 95. Click for skill list: [hide] Agility Attack Combat Constitution Construction Cooking Crafting Defence Dungeoneering Farming Firemaking Fishing Fletching Herblore Hunter Magic Mining Prayer Ranged Runecrafting Slayer Smithing Strength Summoning Thieving Woodcutting [/hide] Plot holes, you say? What plot holes? Rational incentive structure? [bleep] that! It's the age of accessibility. Cheers everyone! Also when I said that this would be the year of "high-level updates", I was drunk. Didn't really mean it, sorry, brah! It's the age of handing everything on a silver platter to the kiddies so that their meager attention spans will sub in for the month. -- Mod MMG, watering Runescape down and making it ridiculously easy since day 1!
  21. I was much more surprised by the lack of Kharshai in this quest. It's almost as if they made the Kharshai miniquest, forgot all about it, then started on The World Wakes and left him out of it. ------ Also, I have killed Automatons for a couple of hours, got about 1.2-1.5M in loot and no gloves as well. --- Also, unless Jagex plans on releasing quests/substantial content that follows off of TWW real soon, I don't see where this talk of "ramifications for everyone and everything, so we had to make it accessible" is coming from. The next GM quest probably won't be out for a year at least (unless I am mistaken and there's another planned for this year) if not later. What exactly is so pressing that it had to be added to the timeline immediately? It seems senseless, as is the decision to add even more quests in the "past", particularly such important ones such as ROTM.
  22. [hide] I am worried about my relationship with Azzandra. I get the feeling that this will be used against me in some future storyline. [/hide]
  23. The new monsters, despite their slayer level, are hard to beat because their weaknesses actually matter -- unless you have drygores as usual. Isn't that just wonderful? My friend was breezing through them all day w/ his dual maces, killing them too fast to be attacked by their special attack. Lame.
  24. To me it's not the skill requirements as much as the quest requirements. It seems to be a blatant attempt by Jagex to needlessly ease things which don't need easing.
