11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
Congratz. ----- I have been thinking some more about the Crew, and my setup may not be ideal for the Pinciers anymore(it works great for Bowl). Should I be ditching the 2 Sea Witches and the one Jade Golemn to get more Judge of Dices(I have 3 at the moment) and Jade Merchants(I have 1 at the moment). The rest of my crew is 6 of each of the primary crew.

I am 55% through the Bowl and I only have 7 Scroll Pieces. I have failed several scroll attempts at over 80%, including the last 3, consecutively whilst other people keep getting theirs through suicide missions. WTF Jagex. This is getting to be rather annoying.

2013: What's Coming and What's Going
I have always maintained that the Comp Trimmed cape(particualrly the 5k games) is absurd lunacy, always. What I'm arguing for, in this thread, is that silly though it may be, it's certainly no worse than being a "completion" standard than 5B is, in fact it makes somewhat more sense, only in a relative sense.

2013: What's Coming and What's Going
How does going past 99/120 "grow" your account in any meaningful sense? There are no levels, no abilities, and nothing tangible at all. The completionist cape, however, is a tangible and official (well I suppose 5B is semi-official given Jagex's support of it) indication of having "completed" the game. If numbers, particularly those that won't even yield levels, is your goal, you could just as easily track your experience on a spreadsheet and go on forever (much like those people who don't stop at 2.1B, but instead keep amassing wealth and storing it through trickeries), why stop at 5B? Mind you, I'm not here (this time at least) to talk about any of the people pursuing this, but I find the argument that 5B is the true mark of completion of the game to be silly and unfounded, and wholly imaginary.

But at what cost? His friends, family, life? He also doesn't have the "completionist" cape. Indeed. In my view, actually completing the official requirements is a far more reasonable criterion for having truly "completed" the game than pursuing some destructive unofficial imaginary self-imposed requirement. Interesting how that sort of thing is seen, proudly, as having "completed" the game.

Well, the Stats are better than Chimera. Basically, as long as you are in Bowl, it can be good for morale/combat missions(since you already have lots of SF people). Once you get to Pinciers, you can probably replace it with the Oxhead and Horseface.

2013: What's Coming and What's Going
One of the reasons why F2P is dying, and why RS in general is sort of shamed in the mainstream and rather unpopular, I suspect, is because of the grinding and the all encompassing nature of it. Most people look down upon, have a natural aversion to it mainly because they don't consider it very fun, and also because they recognize the danger of getting warped into it. I was fortunate(or rather unfortunate) that I started playing RS over 10 years ago when it was quite small and I actually grew with the game(in a number of ways), I can't imagine joining now and having all this inexhaustible content in front of me. That's probably off-putting to new players. If I had never joined Rs, I certainly would not join it today if given the chance.

On a normal +3 Trade Good voyage, the Jade Merhcant gives +1? How, isn't the 30% rounded down? Also, I think the setup I am going to go for is: 3 JoD(4 seems excessive) 2 Sea Witches 6 of each of the primary crew 1 Jade Merchant 1 Jade Golemn That should work.

I have 1 Sacrificial Soothsayer and 1 Jade Merchant, those worth keeping past Bowl? Also, @ Jeremy841, Thanks a bunch, you were concise yet thorough.

I am well into the Bowl and have got the 4th ship, I have a few questions if anyone would be willing to offer some advice: A) How many Judges should I have?2 or 3? B) I have 6 of each main staters(6 morale, 6 cb, 5 SF, 2 Seawitch)? Is this good? --- Has it been confirmed that on the Pinceirs we are only getting 4 new crew members? The 3 main stats, and the special unit Oxhead and Horseface? ------ Also, on that tetsu the face looks rather weird(I hope it gets an update), but aside from that, it's pretty great.

2013: What's Coming and What's Going
This isn't the first time MMG has made such "sincere" posts, often a times them being nothing but publicity stunts. I will be waiting for actual results before I actually proclaim him a Saviour. Also, with regards to the grinding conversation, I'd like to emphatically reaffirm everything Muggi has said, as well as state that I find the justifications/normalizations for/of grinding to be pretty unacceptable and detrimental in a myriad of ways.

Given that the trade good rewards are so huge, is there even any point in wasting Jade on totems? Might as well get the Jade upgrades after everything else(4th Ship, Crew), and possibly after you have gotten a better bar for captains(since they're rare), that way with a fully decked out Jade Ship it will make the transistion into the standard Pincier Voyages easier. What do you guys think?

11-Dec-2012 - Player-Owned Ports
With how regressive the stat increases are for the last few areas, isn't that special voyage for 100 trade goods basically impossible?

77-91 Thieving
Are Monkey Knife Fighters better even past 91 thieving, or only before that?

And that's why that elite requirement is complete shit. I don't see what the problem is. It's no more time consuming than completing Temple Trekking. If anything it takes less time and, to be honest, if you were expecting them not to have a Dom tower 100% complete task for the elite section you are just being naive. If you read my previous post, you'd know I was acutely aware of this. It was predictable because this sort of sillyness is Jagex's pattern, but that doesn't make it any more acceptable. They always have to go overboard, why can't they just make decent requirements, instead they always have to add something excruciating at the end. I *knew* that Dominion Tower would be part of the thing, and I don't mind it, it's just that they've chosen the worst aspect of it to include into the requirement. There was a sensible way to add it: Why isn't killing 500 bosses enough, hell even add all the special bosses to that. I don't mind that. But the silly stuff about hunting for journals is stupid. I don't have time to go back to Dominion Tower(after having unlocked all the tangible benefits) and play a game of chance to hunt for the remaining diary pages, all for the sake of ONE task in the whole diary. It's complete lunacy. I much rather prefer the Diaries where the elite requirements are along the lines of "Have 90+ in X skill, and do X task", that's sensible. This, however, is not. I did the Temple Trekking completely for the Mortanyia Diary but I didn't enjoy that either. It's just a classic example of Jagex making shitty high end status symbol rewards(like the journal pages) that most people couldn't give two flying [bleep]s about, and then enticing the rest of us to do it by attaching some reward that we do care about to it. It's simply them abusing MMORPG mechanics again.

I was looking forward to this Diary, but in back the back of my mind I was aware that they might add some annoying requirement like "do everything in Dom Tower" onto this. As a result, I can't be [bleep]ed with this Diary. I'd have thought that killing over 500 bosses would have been enough(hell, I don't care about Sunfreet either which I have not yet slain), but alas they had to had something annoying to it.

Player-owned ....[next]?
Seems only fair, given that most of us hardcore players have given up worldly relations for the sake of RS.

Does anyone have the totems that increase tradegoods? How do they work?

Well, at least one Mod did state that they(PoP) would get effects in the future, so it's just a matter of Jagex keeping up to their word. Hopefully it wasn't just sometihng they said to keep us stringing along with PoP.

I know you are probably responding in general, rather than to my post specifically, but I will respond anyways. Firstly, I'd like to reiterate what Gingy said following your post. Secondly, I am *not* complaining about the Nex effects, I'm quite happy with the effects. My initial suspicion was that they'd have set effects like Barrows(something groundbreaking) that would make Nex armours more of a necessity and probably better than PoP -- that I did not want to happen. But thankfully, that didn't happen, and so now the set effects are rather balanced, it's exactly what level 80 armour should be like. It's the other people who are upset because they thought it would be a bigger effect or something, and *some*(not all or most) of them are panic-selling their armours. My comment where I callled it "underwhelming" had more to do with other people's reactions(rather than my own), and a sarcastic remark as to what Jagex would do next in their crusade to keep Nex armours relevant. So, to reiterate, I am not at all upset with what they did to Nex armours, I rather like it. I do hope that the PoP armours will get a similar damage boost though.

I was referring to the set effect, obviously.

So, now that Nex armours are allegedly underwhelming, shall we cue Jagex attempt #2445345 to distort the market again and artificially raise prices again? Nex Og Blog #3?

Quick question: the new dual-weapons can be repaired by Chitin OR coins, right?
-
14th Jan - Kalphite King
Unless PoP armours are given a set boost/effect, they very well may not be better than Nex, which would be a real scam.
