  1. Life changing experience? Reading Brave New World and seeing Rage Against the Machine live in concert in the same month. I might not have the same views I did as an angsty 17 year old now, but it diverted me away from normalcy that's for damn sure.
  2. I still follow the counterculture's idea of what a "drug" is. Drugs are bad for you. They harm your body. Alcohol, nicotine, heroine, cocaine, and other harmful substances fall into this category. Do I use drugs? Absolutely. I smoke cigarettes and a drink alcohol in large quantities, but it is my choice to do something that harms my body. "Dope" is not a drug and is not harmful. Dope refers to LSD, peyote, psylocybin (mushrooms), and marijuana (among other hallucinogens). These drugs do not cause physical harm in and of themselves. Does it put you in an other-worldly state? Yes. Do you get lazy and want to do nothing but play Xbox, listen to music, and eat Cheetos? Yes. Does this go against the Puritan work ethic that America values? Absolutely. The resistance to marijuana legalization is slowly waning. Just this year Gallup released a poll saying that for the first time, 50 percent of Americans think the U.S. should legalize pot.
  3. Sunshine (2007) It was interesting and very visually pleasing, but the plot left something to be desired. I'd recommend it though.

    Today...

Shots shots shots shots shots shots shots shots!!! It's Thurstday.
  5. Not to be a debbie downer here but good chemistry and liking someone doesn't always mean a good relationship. If you're not sure you want to be in a relationship then don't be in one. It's a mistake to commit to something like that unless you're totally on board with it.
  6. The Sun Also Rises could be loosely considered a sequel and is a much better novel than A Farewell to Arms. But changing it up is probably a good idea.
  7. Well that was fast. I was a little skeptical of the whole book until the end. What did you think of it??
  8. A Farewell to Arms is good, but I'd suggest reading The Sun Also Rises first. Really anything Hemingway wrote was gold though.
  9. There shall be no return to the EP for me unfortunately. I have far too much writing to do about real issues ;)

  10. I really miss the Wings/Avs rivalry of the mid-90's. 'Twas the best I've seen in my lifetime.
  11. This is impossible for me, really. So many books have opened my mind to new ideas, a few are relics from my childhood, and others have entertained me beyond all belief. I'll make a list instead...here goes: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway (this book has the most beautiful and sad ending to a novel I have ever encountered in my life) The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck East of Eden by John Steinbeck The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss (of whom my sister is good friends with, I have a 1st edition copy of Name of the Wind that is personally signed :shades:) The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky La Nausee (Nausea) by Jean-Paul Sartre The Great Shark Hunt a collection of Gonzo essays by Hunter S. Thompson (Especially "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved") Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Dafoe The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
  12. BUH! BA DUH DUH DUH! GO PACK GO! :shades:
  13. Wanna know something cool? That movie was filmed in Minneapolis and the rink in that shot is in New Hope, MN. I've played multiple times there. Be jealous.

    Today...

Percussion Collective concert tonight for my percussion ensemble. I get to play drumset on a tribute to John Bonham. The beat is based off his monster beat in:
  15. You're thinking too hard. If you like her, talk to her and try to work something out. Don't worry about being another bad relationship for her. Some work, some don't, and a lot of times there's nothing you can really do about it. If you worry about messing things up and doing the wrong thing you're going to drive yourself crazy to the point where you do do something wrong. Relax and be cool about it.
  16. The Wild are tearing it up. Offseason moves seems to have really helped the team. Hopefully they can continue the solid play all year.

    Today...

We're getting about 6" of snow at my university. Perfect time to buy a bottle of peppermint schnopps and go drunk sledding on a Saturday night!
  18. If you watched it to be enthralled or entertained in a conventional sense, you went in with the wrong mindset completely.
  19. I can't help but gloat when the Eagles are doing as poorly as they are
  20. Right, like when he crumbled under pressure in this game. Vick's alleged crumbling had a lot to do with the patchwork O Line, which has been improved considerable. Reid has put together a Super Bowl caliber team, but McNabb choked hard (something Vick won't do) along with a few other key guys. Our defense has improved drastically, with some of the best players in the league. Not only that but we have a top 5 QB and a line to protect him, one of the best WRs out there and a running core to be feared. Like I said before, Eagles going all the way. OH HEY!!!! Remember when I said this? Going all the way, eh? :shades:

    Today...

I didn't get to drink last weekend because of so much homework, so tonight I'm going to my friends' CEOs and Office [garden tools] party. It should be amazing.
  22. I finally saw Stalker (1979). I didn't think a movie about spirituality and Christianity would interest me but this film was truly beautiful.

    Today...

I logged into TIF for the first time in a month. Life is busy as all hell. I'm going on tour for a few days with my university's percussion ensemble, it should be pretty fun.
  24. Been away from here for awhile, but I've been watching loads of movies: Umberto D (1952)-It was good for what it was and I'm glad I finally saw it, but I don't think I'll watch it again. Capote (2005)-I had been meaning to see this one but never got around to it. It started off a little slow and I was somewhat unsure of it, but it ended up being a very moving film. Great use of brutality and violence in a sparing manner as to increase the impact on the viewer. Ivan's Childhood (1962)-Tarkovsky does an amazing job with this one. If you've never watched a Tarkovsky film, you are seriously missing out on one of the most aesthetically pleasing directors in film history. (Thanks to redhaloguy for introducing me to the master :shades:) Army of Shadows (1969)-A movie about the French resistance during WW2. It was interesting and well-acted, but average in my opinion.
  25. [bleep] yeah Walt. [bleep] yeah.
