A Farewell to Arms is good, but I'd suggest reading The Sun Also Rises first. Really anything Hemingway wrote was gold though.

I really miss the Wings/Avs rivalry of the mid-90's. 'Twas the best I've seen in my lifetime.

This is impossible for me, really. So many books have opened my mind to new ideas, a few are relics from my childhood, and others have entertained me beyond all belief. Wanna know something cool? That movie was filmed in Minneapolis and the rink in that shot is in New Hope, MN. I've played multiple times there. Be jealous.

You're thinking too hard. If you like her, talk to her and try to work something out. Don't worry about being another bad relationship for her. Some work, some don't, and a lot of times there's nothing you can really do about it. If you worry about messing things up and doing the wrong thing you're going to drive yourself crazy to the point where you do do something wrong. Relax and be cool about it.

The Wild are tearing it up. Offseason moves seems to have really helped the team. Hopefully they can continue the solid play all year.

Right, like when he crumbled under pressure in this game. Vick's alleged crumbling had a lot to do with the patchwork O Line, which has been improved considerable. Reid has put together a Super Bowl caliber team, but McNabb choked hard (something Vick won't do) along with a few other key guys. Our defense has improved drastically, with some of the best players in the league. Not only that but we have a top 5 QB and a line to protect him, one of the best WRs out there and a running core to be feared. Like I said before, Eagles going all the way. OH HEY!!!! Remember when I said this? Going all the way, eh? :shades:

I finally saw Stalker (1979). I didn't think a movie about spirituality and Christianity would interest me but this film was truly beautiful.

Been away from here for awhile, but I've been watching loads of movies: Umberto D (1952)-It was good for what it was and I'm glad I finally saw it, but I don't think I'll watch it again. Capote (2005)-I had been meaning to see this one but never got around to it. It started off a little slow and I was somewhat unsure of it, but it ended up being a very moving film. Great use of brutality and violence in a sparing manner as to increase the impact on the viewer. Ivan's Childhood (1962)-Tarkovsky does an amazing job with this one. If you've never watched a Tarkovsky film, you are seriously missing out on one of the most aesthetically pleasing directors in film history. (Thanks to redhaloguy for introducing me to the master :shades:) Army of Shadows (1969)-A movie about the French resistance during WW2. It was interesting and well-acted, but average in my opinion.

If the aim of these physicists was to bring Einstein's theories crumbling down, then they are going to do everything it takes to do that. The amount of fame, funding, awards, etc that they will now receive as a result will be astounding. Career-wise, they are completely set. It would be a mistake to assume that scientists are not human or incapable of skewing experiments to get what they want. I'm not saying the results are bogus, but there needs to be very extensive testing before we proclaim that Einstein's work is dead because these discoveries can completely change the way that we understand basic laws of nature---including gravity. That is not something to be throwing around lightly.

Yes you should, history is important! But why? That is a completely serious question. I want to become a history professor, I love it to death, but I don't know how I could justify teaching it in relevance to the real world. You know, the classic "When are we ever going to use this?" question. I'm in my fourth year as a history major and writing my thesis, so by this time in my academic career I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about when it comes to history....hopefully. I'm not going to say that "history repeats itself," because that is utter b.s., but there are clues from the past that can help us make decisions about the present. It is foolish and short-sighted to think that modern society is occurring in a vacuum. In other words, there are forces both historic and contemporary that influence decisions we make as a society and ignoring them is what allows us to make similar mistakes that have been made in the past. Also, in my eyes there are two types of historians. The first kind is the one that enjoys studying battles, dates, facts, medieval armor--what I like to call the real nuts and bolts of history. The other is the type that takes those same events, people, battles, etc. and tries to craft a cohesive (a Hegelian model of history) thread of influence throughout history. Asking questions like "Why did this group of people attack this group?" or "What does public torture say about the society that both allows it and views it willingly?" Those are relatively simple questions, but you get the idea. My area of expertise is twentieth-century U.S. Intellectual history. I study the ideas, philosophies, thoughts, and social theories of people. In my eyes, this is where the real history occurs because the everyday lives of people is what affects their thoughts about how society should (or could) be governed. If we ignore the past, we ruin the future.

I think a safer rule of thumb would be stop making the same mess over and over again. A ten year war that produces no results is utter stupidity especially given its cost.

Colossal waste of money. The amount of corruption in the new "democracy" there is astounding and we could spend another ten years there without the situation getting any better. Just leave already, it's too expensive.

The Lions can't keep relying on 2nd half comebacks if they want to have a successful season.

So, just to go over things again. The Redskins are atop the NFC East at 3-1 and the Eagles--in the same division--have lost their last three to go to 1-3 with their only win coming against the lowly Rams. I know it's only four games into the season, but it's probably not a good start for a team that plans on "going all the way." By the way, my Packers are 4-0. :grin:
