  1. All fansites have an item database. Use it, don't ask people on forums. Spirit shield: http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2item_id=7999 Verac's skirt has a negative ranged bonus (although a good prayer bonus). I would recommend something that doesn't have a negative ranged bonus. Are you sure it wasn't a video on how to defeat Kree'arra?
  2. You should try finding things out on your own. The Tip.it magic skill guide would have immediately told you that NPC contact is a magic spell from the Lunar spellbook. Both YouTube and Tip.it are filled with guides and tips on how to kill aviansies and both sites have a search function that makes it easy to find them. I found these guides in about 30 seconds. viewtopic.php?f=180&t=708158 viewtopic.php?f=180&t=777269
  3. You need to have two bedrooms to be able to hire a servant as stated in the construction guide of Tip.it or any other fansite. Watchtower quest dungeon is a good place to range Blue Dragons btw.
  4. I think you forgot Zierro. I like skills more. I could change my mind if I got levels that would allow hunting for the high level bosses. Right now my combat skills aren't really that different from other skills, there is just four or five of them for the same kind of grinding.
  5. I'm kinda late, but I think it's worth pointing out that spirit shields often have prayer requirements (although you should be able to get to 60/70/75 prayer easily if you have enough gp for the better ones).
  6. Compfreak estimated the drop rate at 1/3000. The probability of getting a drop in 3000 kills is: P(getting a visage)=1 - P(not getting a visage) 1 - (2999 / 3000)^3000 = 0.632 the two is rounded down and we are left with 63%. In 10k kills the probability of getting a visage is: 1 - (2999 / 3000)^10000 = 0.964 (>90%) A lot of the other posters have made mistakes in their calculations prehaps mixing the probabilty with the expected value of visage drops. The chance/luck/whatever terminology has not helped. I think some people are having problems with realising that killing multiple dragons can be thought of as a series of events instead of just thinking about each kill as a single event. Otherwise it's just basic high school math. I see no reason for a flame war here. but as far as I know each dragon should be considered as a single event, as the drop chance does not increase. Each dragon kill is still considered as a single event. The probabilty of getting a drop in any one of these single events is 1/3000 and the probabilty of not getting a drop in any single event is 1-(1/3000) = 2999/3000. When several dragons are killed there is a group of these single events. Mleh, 2.30am is too late to talk about math in your third language. The main point of my post would have been that the probability for single events doesn't change and that we are only determining how probable it is to get a drop somewhere in a certain number of kills.

  8. Well, Runescape wiki tells to use melee armour and pray mage. I guess the d'hide was just so that the few magic attacks it gets at the start don't hit as hard. The prayer draining attack is only used when you are outside melee range and protect praying, so go to melee range quickly. Once you're there you might need to eat, but that's not a problem. It really won't do much damage at all with melee attacks, so you have very little chance of dying unless you lag badly at the start of the battle or something. Wear a ring of life maybe because you don't get a gravestone.
  9. So: 3 hours spent for 10 hammers (32kexp/hammer * 10 hammers) / 50k exp/hour = 6.4 hours spent on smithing Exp/hour rate: (32kexp/hammer * 10 hammers) / (3 hours + 6.4 hours) = 34042.6 exp/hour 320kexp / 50exp/bar = 6400 bars Money per hour with iron bars at 252gp each and iron knives at 34gp each ((5knives/bar * 6400bars * 34gp/knife) - (6400bars * 252gp/bar)) / 9.4 hours = -55830gp/hour The smithing rate was from iron plates so I'd probably get less than 34k exp per hour with less than 56k loss per hour. I guess it's a good way of training if you really like the minigame, but with the numbers you provided it barely beats superheating mith in exp/hour for smithing whereas superheating also gives magic exp. Does anybody have exp/hour and exp/hammer info on mith bolts with sc hammers?
  10. I did it today at 94 combat. It was easy. I had 10 prayer pots, but didn't drain more than 20 prayer points. I had black d'hide with whip and prayed magic. At the start she hit a couple of big hits when I wasn't at melee range. It should be very easy if you just remember to pot up before the fight (unlike me) and watch your prayer. Monks or better food is recommended. Gl on quest and welcome to w99 to fish monks with me (already 1,4k monks in banked just in the first day  )
  11. How many morphic tools can I get per hour of stealing creation? Also, what is the best item to make from iron that sells? Knives? Now that I've searched a bit more I've learned that smithing gold on a furnace is 55-60k/hour with 500k gp loss per hour, so gold wouldn't be much worse and would require much less attention. I might still superheat addy 70-73. I'm still looking for an estimate on the exp/hour rate on superheating gold ore. I'm not finished with Family Crest so I can't test it myself.
  12. I want to get to 70/73 smithing from 59. I'm pretty sure smithing gold with gauntlets is a good way to do it, but I don't know if I should superheat or smelt in a furnace. I want to know which method is the most cost efficient. So, my questions are: Does anybody know about the exp/hour rates for these two methods? Any idea on which one I should use if I make ~350k/hour and gold ore is 505 gp each? What is the closest furnace to a bank in p2p? I'm also open to any other suggestions on how to raise my smithing 59-73. Thank you in advance
  13. -Addy axe with ~80gp loss each -Useful expensive items like rune pick might start selling even at a price where alching is profitable without anybody noticing -Look for items that people usually sell when they reach a level where the item is no longer useful. Red dhide vambs were getting really good, but I think somebody noticed it (still med price at high alch - 167gp)
  14. Is "GP and ess back" method still welcomed? I don't think many people will trade you. The system has been assist based for over a year and most runners probably won't know what you are talking about. It could be a good way of getting a couple of extra loads done at 66 runecrafting. Either way be prepared to teach how the method works to a lot of newbs. Don't get angry when they show you 28 ess, just say that you only want 25 ess and that they can get assisted for the last 3 if they want. How much GP given back would be most cost efficient and accepted? 2k and ess back is what the w16 air runes thread on RSOF used to suggest. However, nowadays with the price of air runes at 13 each and rune ess 47 each runners are getting in effect 1232 gp per run from assistX7, 1596 gp per run at assistX8 and 1960 gp per run at assistX9. I would say 1.5k + ess back would probably be good with 2.5k plus ess back as a bonus to the last one before break. 1k + ess could also work, it won't hurt to try. What would be a recognizable ad sentence? I remember shouting "Open - 2.2k + ess back - Anon70" a lot. "Open - assist X[assist level] or 1.5k + ess back - [RSN]" should be good. The important thing used to be that it was easy to read (thus a lot of spaces) and started with "Open". Use a coloured font that nobody else is using if you feel the need to use a coloured font. Never use wave, it's hard to read when there are many crafters around. Most importantly make it something that you can type out quickly and try to keep it the same every time. Also a combat level of 100+ and clothes that f2p weren't used to seeing (ghostly robes ftw) were helpful, but I don't know how much of this applies if you're the only one offering gp plus ess back.
  15. Does it have enough money in MTK to keep taking 75k per day?
  16. Lady Shahdie's guide had good tips for Rune mining: viewtopic.php?f=180&t=761848 Might be outdated as I think it was written prior to the pvp worlds update. Keep in mind that the mine itself is single combat, but the areas surrounding it are multi. I recommend Anchovie pizzas and swordies in a 1:2 ratio so you can eat half of pizza and a whole swordie quickly when a rev is on your tail. Replace swordies with wine if you want, not lobs as you're probably not going to attack a rev with green d'hide and a rune pick. Lobs could be ok if you intend to fight off pkers. (I don't know how many will take you on in f2p.)
  17. If WoW membership costed more than 70 euros per month I would consider this a valid argument. The membership cost for both games is less than one trip to the grocery store or an hour of work with no education in most countries where these games are played. I think most people who aren't incredibly stingy base their choice between the games on the big diffrences between them. (Sorry about the sentence fail.) WoW is centered around combat which requires knowledge of the game mechanics and good reaction times from the player. There is very little grinding after the beginning of the game. In RS you can usually eat/watch TV/read a book while you play and the game has skills like farming and runecrafting in which there is new rewards even after hundreds of hours of playing. I've never been interested in PvP or clans and I like skilling more than combat. If I want to test my reaction time I play RTS games. (I'll probably quit or take a break from RS when Starcraft 2 comes along.) What does WoW have to offer me?
  18. This. I would also like to point out that the rewards can be pretty good as well. Quests that unlock teleports and transportation networks and 10k exp lamps will make things easier at start. I have 45 Slayer even though I have only done two tasks and just yesterday I went 29 to 39 summoning with ToG and then two 10k exp lamps. I also started my time in members a few months ago with agility. This is what I recommend: 1-25 Gnome agility course (8k exp/hour) 25-43 Skullball after the quest Creature of Fenkenstrain (15k exp per hour) 43-Agility Arena (Get Karamja gloves 2 if you have a lot of tickets to cash in) (28-30k exp per hour) At 49 you can try out the wilderness course and I've heard Ape Atoll is good at 65+. Also: -Get a Glory amulet (4). It's good for melee, ranged and teleporting and costs less than 50k. -Doing Fremmenik trials unlocks Archer helm and you can start Fremmenik Isles (just first 5 minutes of the quest) after that to get to yaks for training ranged. Red d'hide body, chaps and vambs, Archer helm, snakeskin boots and bronze knives will get you to 70 in no time without much money spent. Ava's accumulator from the quest Animal Magnetism would also help. Unholy book would need you to spend a lot of cash for it as well as doing a quest, but you wouldn't regret getting it. -Thieving from stalls is best done in full worlds and the tea stall in Varrock has no guards. -Farming is surprisingly interesting and even marigolds at level 2 are very profitable. -Try to get 70 attack for whip. I suggest starting out by getting an attack training weapon like dragon longsword (this too requires a quest) and getting the rune defender with it. -Barrows degrades slowly. Get a chestpiece and legs because they are cheap and effective. Torag plate and Verac skirt is popular even among high level players. -Dragon boots are great even if they cost a bit. Dragon med helm is a good helm before you do the Fremmenik quests. Obsidian cape is kinda expensive, but it offers good stats at the cape spot. -For money you can craft runes. Unlocking the abyss doesn't take that long. Right now you can do nats. At 54 you can change to laws and at 59 you can make double cosmics. It's actually very easy to make laws through the abyss. -Any extra points you might have in GOP should got to purchasing pure ess and in FoG I'm personally saving them until I can get Kwuarm gloves. Edit: Obsidian Split Sword + Rune Defender + Berserker Necklace is actually better for 65 to 70 attack than D long + Rune Defender + Glory. Much better. Edit 2: Added exp rates so that you can compare to Muggi's toy mouse method. I didn't know mice gave 25k exp per hour at level 1
  19. Searching "great orb project 50-50" on RSOF gave thwo clans just off the bat. This one had two bumps just today, the other required you to join a clan: World 22, chat is "50 50 games" Quick find code: 72-73-391-57872526
  20. 90+fishing here I come \ Also, they could have made the Varrock teleport f2p as well by making it unlock after Shield of Arrav or something. The other updates are great for f2p and p2p alike, though. I hope the censor update has made some Finnish words available again.

  22. Aslan beat me to it. Neitz Helm = Helm of Neitiznot, from the quest Fremmenik Isles, not Fremmenik Trials as Adrenal claimed (Although Fremmenik trials is a prereq quest for Fremmenik Isles.) Barrows Chest = Torag/Dharok/Guthan platebody, buyable from GE (Grand Exchange north of Varrock west bank) Learn more about Barrows armour here: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=barro ... tm#rewards D Legs = Dragon legs (I suggest Verac's Plateskirt. D skirt is also better as it costs and weights less and has the same stats as D legs.) D Boots = Dragon boots, from GE Fury Ammy = Amulet of Fury (Amulet of glory is the the cheaper replacement) Both from GE Best RFD glove = Best gloves from the quest Recipe for Disaster ROW = Ring of wealth Rune defender = Got as a drop from the Warriors guild Cyclopses Learn more about Warriors guild here: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=warriors_guild.htm For slayer replace Neitz helm with black mask. Remember to do Smoking Kills quest asap to start accumulating points for slayer helm. Also, you didn't ask for a weapon, but Abyssal whip is by far the most popular choice of weapon. For ranged training i suggest Robin hood hat > Helm of Neitiznot or Archer Helm after Fremmenik Trials Red d'hide body, chaps and vambraces Ranger boots > snakeskin boots Archer ring > ROW if you train at a monster with no good drops Zamorak prayer book after Horror from the Deep quest if you are training with knives/darts/crossbow Fury > Glory Best RFD gloves Welcome back to the game
  23. Yes, for any single occurance (X)=visage drop the chance of getting a visage drop is the same, but when you get for example 500 kills the chance of you getting one or more visages is higher than from the one kill. Drop rate refers to the chance of getting a visage drop in one kill. With it you can calculate estimates for the expected value of visage drop amount E(X) or the probability of getting one or more visages in for example 500 kills using high school probability theory. Infinity is a consept and it cannot be used with any mathematical operators. The symbols of +, -, x, and / are arithmetic operators, and can only be used for numbers. To write 1/infinity and mean "1 divided by or to infinity" makes about as much sence as 1/freedom. 1 cannot be divided by a concept. It can only be divided by a number. And if you were using 1 to infinity as shorthand for lim x->infinity (1/x), then 1/infinity is 0. Edit: Got quote tags wrong
  24. Toast was trying to say 900-1k an hour. Not 900-1k in 4 hours. Also, the 101 hours to 99 fm estimate is calculated with 900 logs per hour. And I don't think it would be quicker to get 99 wc starting at 88 in f2p. That's about a third of the way there so something like 130-160 hours of Draynor willows would be required depending a lot on how crowded it is. I guess somebody with a better idea on the exp/hour rate on f2p can give a better estimate.
  25. I'm currently studying at the University of Helsinki University Department of Chemistry, but I have taken courses on both physics and math here at the university and I'm trying to get to med school, so I should be somewhat familiar with all of the subjects. In my opinion a field of science is doing well when it's greatly benefitting mankind as a whole and the science done in the field is mostly good science, which means that the results are made easily available and the scientists aren't just trying to come up with results that benefit the companies they get their financing from. That being said, I think the best answer to the question is going to be a compromise. At the moment it seems to me that biology and the fields of science related to it are experiencing explosive growth in the different ways they are benefitting us. However, all of the new crop plant varietes and drugs that are created seem to have big draw backs because of the patenting of genes and the power of medical/insurance companies. Just last week I read in the newspaper that borreliosis patients hadn't received proper treatment here in Finland because the guidelines for the treatment were made in the US by a group of scientists with strong relations to the local insurance companies. There is also a large amount of potential hazards ranging from improved doping methods to the second coming of eugenics as the modifying and analysing of DNA in humans becomes easier. I've only taken a few courses on math mainly focusing on things needed for physics and I don't know much about how the scientific community works in math, but it appears as if math is in the complete opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to the growth in benefit and amount of bad science and corruption. There is a steady flow of new information, but the newly gained knowledge is mostly applied in things like improving the securing of data. Nobody seems to think that mathematics will change the world for the better in a way that we could all appreciate in the near future. Physics and Chemistry are sort of in between these two IMO. Physics is closer to the open corruption-free environment of math because of the complete openness of science done in places like CERN, but the development of fusion techonology has the potential to really revolutionise the energy situation on a global scale. Chemistry on the other hand is largely dependant of chemical companies and is therefore closer to biology. None of the other sciences of the big three come close to the amount of scientific publications published annually in the field of chemistry. The bad thing is that chemical companies also finance scientists who are willing to blatantly lie about things like climate change. These scientists usually work hard on the media trying to make people believe that climate change is some kind of a hoax, but never send their articles to be peer reviewed. But since I can only pick one I'm going to pick mathematics because there is a lot of hot chicks in the math department. :twss:
