  1. The mine is in 35-40 wilderness. The closest anvil is in the ruins at about 20-30 west wilderness. Edgeville is a bit further away than bounty hunter but games necklaces are cheaper than glories anyway. Just run to 20 Wilderness and teleport... or after you smith on the anvils at least.
  2. I read a guide that used the river lumbridge spot. You fish there, then canoe up to the GE to bank. It was supposed to have slightly lower exp/hour than shilo but it is still very good. I cannot remember the guide but you could probably search for it.
  3. I learned of Runescape from a gaming site called Arcadepod back in mid 2002.
  4. They used to have an unofficial Ventrillo one I think, then the guy had to shut down the server. Also, at one point there was a teamspeak, same thing happend (These were both unofficial). If you want to get in touch with 'Scapers over Vent, I am not sure but I thought I heard somewhere that Zybez has one... EDIT: http://www.zybez.net/runescapeventrilo.php It was actualyl given to ego scorpion and he still maintains it though he more often plays WOW. We are still there though but when it is full mine is the overflow. Been kind of dead lately though. It is too bad too. Talking beats the heck out of typing :/
  5. I remember being 16, and grounded during the Halloween event and calling a friend to get me a scythe.... which he didn't do :( I also remember when the best fishing spot was on Karajama just west of the amulet salemen, south of the bar with pirates... man I remember fishing and selling right there. Good times indeed :D
  6. I think that you are entirely correct, without a doubt. I also think that you should us a rune crossbow as well. Broad bolts are cheap and more efficient than any type of arrows in my opinion. And if you want to use a canon and break even, ice trolls is your only bet.
  7. A couple of things, if I may. Those that have said they would at least consider this challenge, please message me. I also want to say that I realise that this offers no reward to the victor but I would be glad to offer an incentive for anyone that would take me up on my offer, though that would take some trust on the players part but anyone from ego's vent can attest to my character. I do what I say I will do and I would be glad to give the player something for their time. This of course would be discussed between the player and myself. The whole point I am trying to make is that flecthing, cooking, and firemaking are skills that many players accomplish, usually as a first 99 (as they are somewhat faster to achieve, I will not deny that). However they are not stats that players just shoot for out of the gate and as a result spend many months playing before they shoot for these goals (hell 6 years here). They take time and money and I feel as though people overlook these accomplishments simply because they 'bought them'. What seems to be missing is the fact that these are secondary skills, skills meant to be leveled on top of other skills (Woodcutting, fishing/farming, and even a little of crafting). That is why they offer quicker experience and also why they often times offer very few benefits of higher levels (though that adze has me watering...er steaming at the mouth). This does not however build a case for the accomplishment of the players. Now anyone can look at my stats and see that I have fletching and cooking as my 99s and I hope that they would not come to the wrong conclusions. Those were races between friends of mine otherwise I probably would not have a 99 because this is a casual game for me. The reason for that is because I feel like those are big accomplishments. Having put in the time and money management of getting those 99s I can honestly say that I feel good about them. Then when I come to the tip.it forums, a place where I feel as though I fit in, I hide the fact that I have these 99s, almost embarassed to have met my goals. What I would like for our little community to realize is these thoughts create an elitist mentality that pushes some members away. These were not easy for me. The time to get the money, the time to get the materials (as fletching was before the GE and cooking was done through my kingdom), and the time to actually level the skill were all factors that made this difficult for me. It made me feel as though I really had accomplished something. Then there large chunks of the community that I am involved in that look down on it. Having worked that hard for something, I feel as though my time meant something and I refuse to think that someone that leveled combat instead deserves more respect. Granted I might be beaten in my ploy, I just want you guys to realise that these skills are a little more difficult than you seem to think they are. If nothing else, the effort to actually make all of those bows or burn this many logs makes this tedious, where combat can potentially be different ALL THE TIME! Tired of Dragons, just swtich to skeletons; fletching, cooking, and firemaking do not offer that ability making these skills more difficult to stick with. I know tons of combat players that cannot stomach getting 99s in repetative skills thus I feel like they deserve at least some respect. Bottom line is there are many aspects of leveling these skills that I feel the players deserve respect for. I can say that because I have leveled them. Even if they are pointless to have at these levels (as some say though I respectfully disagree), the fact remains that the time and effort should get some props. You are basically saying that the time spent was wrothless and that the player wasted their time but in truth a combat 99 is no more impressive than a 99 in fletching, firemaking, or cooking because in my opinion it is more about having a community with other people that reflects a respect for other's accomplishments. Not to say that combat does not deserve respect but cooking, firemaking, and fletching deserve the same thing. That is exactly why I am willing to show that combat is just as easy, if not moreso to level than cooking, fletching, and firemaking. Sure it maybe slower experience but you do not have to worry about making money, burning out, or having a community that makes you feel as though your time is wasted. I am worried that if I get a challenger, they will become burned out but if they did, I think it would just serve to prove my point. Anyway I hope that this was cognitive and that this is really about our community moving past such a small perspective.
  8. While avansies will no doubt net you a nice profit, ice trolls is a much quicker alternative if you can afford breaking even or maybe even having a slight net loss. [hide=]1000 canon balls Another 1000 cannon balls 1500 cannon balls 4500 cannon balls [/hide] Setup What to wear If interested I will provide mre information
  9. Yes, I agree. What some of the posters seem to miss is that Jagex would not sell gold from the store, as most other online RPGs with microtransactions do not. Instead they would potentially offer things to those that wanted them. For instance in WOW, if you played the card game (which is actually decent) you could collect points for ingame items. Now the ingame items were pointless, like paper air-copters and a costume that changed you into an Ogre but they added something for those that might want to collect those items. Now the ice cream sword that was mentioned is a bit extreme because it 'could' be used to change the appearance of PVP items thus making it harder to judge your opponents. If Jagex were to introduce something like this it would not affect gameplay at all, as none of the items should not provide bonuses (or at least they shouldn't in my opinion). Instead it would offer a bit of fun to those that would be willing to pay for them.
  10. Well see, Jagex's stance against RWT would lead me to believe the same thing. However at E3 the man interviewed said that Runescape was in the process of having microtransactions implemented. I would find the video but I am at work so am unable to do so. I will try to go through tip.it's old pages but I bet the trouble we had recently whipped those threads out. Point is Jagex said that they are working on putting a system of microtransactions into the game so the OP may have some ground to stand upon. As for me, eh I could care less if there were 'skins' that made my sword look like an ice cream cone. Then again I am sure these microtransactions would not give players an unfair advantage so I am sure that materials would not be sold and gold will definately NEVER be sold. As a result I am sure that if they ever do release a feature like this it will be pointless things like alternate skins, decorative armor and weaponry, and new pets like the cat that just follow you around.
  11. Blood I would be very interested to have you as my opponent. You seem very sure that you could beat me and that is something that would be very important to this challenge. I understand you not wanting to devote time to a worthless account but I would ask that you reconsider. You seem very sure that you could get the cash needed and I think you are wrong. For every hour you spend making money, I will have that hour to level my actual stats. And if you really think that you can hit 85 then 99,99,99 I think you are severely mistaken. I might even venture to say that if that was your avenue of money making, then I am sure that I could beat you. 85 mining is not quick at all and for every level you make on any other skill, that is a level I will make towards my real goal.
  12. Well under no circumstance should you cook trout for 99. Attack would be a good first 99 but if speed is what you are going for I would reccomend the following: Complete Royal Trouble/Throne of Misc. and at least start Fairy Tale Part 2 (for fairy rings) Invest in your kingdom for a month. 10 on fish/5 on flax (or whatever is best money maker). Do not withdraw. While managing your Kingdom, train slayer for extra cash to invest. If money becomes an issure cash you kingdom out and sell the money maker you are investing alongside fish. At the end of the month you will have 18750 flax, 13204 tuna, and 3959 Swordfish. Sell the flax and any of the bonus items you do not want (this will effectively double you money at least). Cook the tuna, then the swordies (perferably with the gauntlets), then sell every fish you have. Then use your money to buy shark and cook them from level 94 on. You should make a pretty nice profit and still manage a 99. I did this and made 3m off of my 99 cooking. Now I am using the logs that I gathered at the same time for 99 fire making. Should take you about a month and a half but you can level combat while waiting (I did slayer for the mask) but that is up to you. Good luck.
  13. Well I mean it is not as though my main has bad stats either. I feel as though I am a mid-high level player and I know quite a bit about skilling. I am anal about money spent so most of my materials I have earned myself so I know how difficult it is to actually level those skills outside of buying them. And even if I did buy them, I earned the money so it was still work as I do not merchant or camp and certain type of mob. I have a decent crafting level, which I am proud to say I have not lost money getting (also have 850-ish battle staves to craft as firemaking has only allowed me to buy them recently). All of my stats are above 62 and I have 2 99s ('unworthy 99s' but 99s none the less) I have completed every quest only using guides a few times as I usually complete new quests on the day they are released. I have full lumberjack, full void, full infinity, and full BA gear. I think that my house is very impressive. In other words I feel as though my main (second main at that) is at least a decent account but for the flack that is often given about certain 99s, I am willing to put it on hold, train combat (Something I do not particularly enjoy) to prove that these skills deserve respect because whether bought or colllected, the 99 was still earned by the player.
  14. If it were possible I would gladly give the skiller the combat account as I will not have any interest in it once this challenge is done. I know that it is a long shot but I will glady ask Jagex if it is possible and even if it isn't ;)
  15. I was thinking about it but I am sure that would slow me down :P I will probably train on controlled to 60 or 70 then do defense to 99 and then attack thus giving me my 3 combat 99s.
  16. While combat is slower training, the point is that the skiller will have to earn everything that they use to level the other skills. That is why I feel as though merchanting diminishes the point. I will not be merchanting and I will only use what I earn as far as cash or drops go. My whole point is that firemaking, cooking, and fletching all take money to level. You have to earn money (or collect the materials yourself) to level the stats I mention. Cooking would take about 8m to level these days, firemaking about 3-4m if using willows (good luck) and fletching might break even; though you would have to have starting capital to level. All of those numbers are approximations so please do not hound on my numbers. And as far as merchanting goes, I would hate for whomever I race to lose everything and give up. I am kind of hoping that the point that even though these skills are quick to level, there still comes a challenge to collecting the materials or money used to 'buy' the materails. THEN you actually have to level the skill. That is not as easy as everyone seems to think it is.
  17. I kind of thought it was pretty clear. But to answer your question, yes the skiller can buy what they want from whoever they want. AS LONG AS THEY BUY IT and it is not given to them. To the other posters: I do not think this is something that can be calculated. The idea here is that a skiller has to go through collecting the materials to level a skill. Where as a combat player gets the benefit of drops, the skiller is left with little money after leveling his skills. All of the skills in this challenge are secondary skills (something people tend to forget) and as a result have to have a finances in order to get levels in them. Merchanting kind of defeats the purpose but as everyone is so concerned about their precious time being spent on a 'useless' account, I guess merchanting would be the easiest way for them to get money. I was thinking more of them having to earn it but alas what can I do? I still think that I might be able to beat them even if they merchant. As to PC... That would be allowed but it offers pretty crappy experience. There are much better ways to level than PC. In the past that was not the case but now a days it would only be decent exp (if you were winning) and I need it to be amazing exp ;)
  18. I am thanks ;) though really only 92 for the adze, then 99 wc/fm at the same time. With a short period to test the Beacon Network. Interestingly enough I made my own bowstrings for 99 fletching and used my kingdom for cooking and fletching. On EVERYTHING I do I make money :D And there will be no excuses if I lose. I am a grown up and grown ups are not as petty as many Runescape players. I just feel as though I am entirely correct in this matter and am willing to devote time to prove it. You are very confident and as those skills are quick to level, why not prove to me once and for all that my capes deserve less respect. It should only take a month right? And as it will be an hour by hour deal, you can play as little or as much as you like, since you have a life and all. Edit: your signature made me smile. And very nice stats all around.
  19. Well congratulations friend. And I would hope that you would think you could win ;) but I think I am going to wait about a week to finalize everything. In the mean time anyone that wants to could start getting a game plan together for money making and what not (like pure ess mining as recommended above). I am hoping to have several people take me up on it so if one drops out, the others may be there to keep the race going. I would hate to get to 80 in stats and have the other player crap out on me :D Not saying you would but things happen sometime. Anyway thanks for the offer of challenge. I look forward to a friendly competition.
  20. I guess I could but it would defeat the purpose. I believe that combat is easier than leveling those stats so my goal would be to prove it. I do not think that playing both would give me the push to make them even. As a result I really need someone that thinks I am wrong to want to prove that I am wrong. I dislike combat so this is going to be tedious for me as well. I would much rather burn logs and farm my afternoons away than mindlessly beat on skeletons for several hours a day but I am willing to suck it up and try to beat a skiller to prove the worth of the skill capes. I am hoping to find someone confident enough to want to prove me wrong.
  21. Alright we will also log our time. Everyday that we play we will log the amount of time spent playing Runescape. We can log experience/hour as well as pretty much anything that you guys want to. I will gladly accept those rules. As far as the 2 hours a day thing goes, then it will take forever. I will go for that as it will free up my evenings. I work a 45 hour a week job and am very involved at church so this game would not interfere with those aspects of my life but I was planning on getting an average of 5 hours a day. The point isn't about usefulness of a skill because I could argue that combat is useless to me as I am a skiller. My point is cooking and fletching and more so in my opinion, firemaking deserve the same respect as any skill cape. Yes at the end of this whole deal we will be left with useless accounts as I will then resume playing my real account but that is not the point. My point is it is harder to level firemaking, cooking, and fletching from the ground up, than combat ever will be. I am willing to prove it. And as to the 100k/h for stats, you are entirely correct, but you have to earn the fish, logs, bowstrings, money in order to get to that point. For every hour a skiller will spend earning cash for the other skills, I will be gaining experience in combat, very rarely having to stop.
  22. Then race me. If there is no point, you have nothing to lose as you will win and prove your point. My point is it will take you time to make money/gather materials where as I have a straight shot to 99. You would not beat me.
  23. Also you can take willow logs with you to use ont he fire pits in the second room. [Crew edit: did you, specifically and personally, bring logs? Because several people tried several different "dodges" such as you mention, and none of them worked. Please explain what you did.]
  24. I understand that Sam but my point is leveling combat is easier than striaght out leveling those skills. With no outside interaction (as far as giving free items) it would take a skiller much longer to get 99 in those three than getting 99 in combats. I aim to prove it.
  25. Well you do not have to necessarily do them in order. A friend of mine combat 70 something got the goblin one while she was doing Goblin Diplomacy. They are just possibly the rarest drop in the game. Do not feel badly as I have heard people killing 20k goblins trying to get one and here is level 70 something nobody getting one on accident.
