  1. Let the baseless speculation begin! \ (No offense intended, I like baseless speculation : )
  2. One could argue that the temple trekking minigame is already a randomly generated scenario.
  3. The desert could expand significantly farther south. The river elid could make a quick turn to the east just south of menaphos/sophanem and form the already visible southern coastline of a part of the desert. The western part of the desert could then expand farther to the south, perhaps into a savanna region.
  4. If that's all it does, why don't you simply open the hiscore and price check interfaces in another browser tab?
  5. The system reqs for playing RS are completely independent of the size of the world map. After all, only a fraction of the world map is used at any time (hence the "loading - please wait" message you get when you move a significant distance).
  6. Because the godswords are artifacts from the god wars, wars in which Guthix did not actively fight. He was asleep during these wars, and stopped them with his own power when he woke up.
  7. Might it have anything to do with summoning, especially rune minotaurs? People want to make rune minotaurs, thus they buy rune bars, the price of rune bars goes up, quickly followed by the price of rune ores.
  8. Actually I'm very thick-skinned. I'm just trying to improve the general niceness of rs players by having this signature. Probably it doesn't help at all... Now it may be that you and that other guy were just joking when you called this writer a noob*, but in-game, "noob" is almost invariably used as an insult. A word is an insult if it is intended to offend or hurt, and in-game, I see that "noob" is most often used that way. The same goes for "nerd" and many other words, it's not the words themselves, but the intent with which they are used. * There was no context whatsoever to your statements, thus invalidating your claim that it was obvious that you were joking. You could have easily said - He's probably a great goblinslayer by now. - Ducks and chickens flee in terror when they see this writer coming! This would have conveyed the same meaning without leaving the impression that you're just an immature RPG'er who instinctively calls everyone with less levels than himself a noob and everyone with more levels than himself a no-lifer.
  9. Feeling the need to call a casual player who hasn't yet reached high combat levels a noob says more about you than it says about him. What's the matter? Are you feeling insecure because he's a moderately successful writer and plays runescape in his spare time?
  10. Don't forget an anti dragonbreath shield. Use antifire potions if you don't want to be hit by the fire at all. The protect from melee may be useful for people with low defense levels. You can use attack or supper attack potions to raise your attack.
  11. Actually, in certain fields, the word "bra" also has a meaning that is not tied to things of a sexual nature. The wikipedia article on the bra-ket notation writes
  12. If their database containing the player's passwords is well-designed, even people with direct access to the database will not be able to get the password of a player. The trick is to store the passwords in an encrypted form, such that finding the encrypted password from the real password is easy (and thus allowing the computer to verify if the player has entered the correct password), but finding the real password from the encrypted password should be extremely hard. Disclaimer : Of course I do not know the design of JaGeX's databases and they might, for reasons known only to them, have chosen to not store the passwords in an encrypted form. I'd be surprised if that were the case though.
  13. There is a drop rate. When rolling dice, there is no counter that decides "oh, you've rolled the dice X times, better roll a 6 now." Nevertheless, the "drop rate" of rolling a 6 is exactly 1/6.
  14. I just sold my phoenix pouches on the GE, so apparently there is no such block.
  15. Consider: - A popular option for summoning training is the granite lobster, giving 325 xp per pouch. This pouch has the advantage of having a readily obtainable secondary ingredient. - The phoenix gives 613 xp per pouch, which is almost twice the xp of a granite lobster. Hence, xp-wise, the quill is basically a tradeable crimson charm. Mages who like to burst rock lobsters pay effectively 4k per crimson charm (see various guides on the subject in the archive of wisdom). I conclude that the price of the quill will remain in the 3k-4k range.
  16. Over 600 summon xp per phoenix pouch.
  17. I don't know the answer myself, but you could cast the lunar spell "monster examine" on those demons. This spell will reveal, among other things, whether it's a slayer monster.
  18. If there's one thing runescape players are good at, it's determining which places are the best to train certain skills. Adding banks and/or resources close to banks risks changing the best place to train certain skills, leaving the new best place full of players and the old best place nearly abandoned. This is why I think bork-style repeatable minigames are better to breathe life into abandoned places.
  19. This could be true. However, these people think that there is a set amount of logs contained in a tree. This amount might be determined randomly when the tree spawns, with higher level trees having a higher average amount of logs. Distinguishing between these possibilities is hard. If slayernm613 is correct, and there is a certain constant probability that the tree will disappear when a log is cut (this probability being 1 for normal trees and less than 1 for better trees), the amount of logs you get from cutting a high-level tree would have a poisson distribution. If the other option is correct, the he amount of logs you get from cutting a high-level tree would have a uniform distribution.
  20. Oh really? Citation needed. Note : it may be that many countries do not have explicit laws against using someone else's wireless internet, but it might sill be forbidden under more general theft laws. Can't you read? In the U.S its not a federal regulated law, it is not illegal in most U.S states. It is under petty theft for hacking into a secured network. The USA is not "most countries". Furthermore, are you claiming "petty theft" is not illegal? Please provide evidence that it is not illegal in most U.S. states. A link to a newspaper article will do. Maybe a wikipedia page.
  21. Oh really? Citation needed. Note : it may be that many countries do not have explicit laws against using someone else's wireless internet, but it might sill be forbidden under more general theft laws.
  22. True, there are no rules against "claiming to commit real-life crimes". That is also why I would not report such a person if I heard him saying such things in-game. (though I'm sure it's against the "spirit of the game" ;) ). I am merely dissapointed by the large amount of people who seem to think that bandwidth theft is a trivial, completely harmless thing, or even the victim's fault: In Belgium, you might have to stay up to 3 years in prison for stealing bandwidth.
  23. Ok, this is frustrating me...you have no basis to call him a real-life criminal any more than I do calling Jeff Dunham a real-life serial killer (he's a ventriloquist/comedian who says "I kill you!" a lot with one of his dummies). JaGex can only take IN-GAME action against accounts for wrongs which are done IN-GAME - so logic tells us that yes, people should be reported and banned for something as harmless as offensive language, and not for actual real-life theft. You have a point. I was, of course, arguing under the assumption that the guy was actually serious. Nevertheless - If you argue the guy was only joking about stealing bandwidth, you might as well argue that the moderator was only joking about reporting him - The action of saying he steals someone's bandwidth is still an ingame action, an action which can have arguably worse consequences than using swearwords. After all, using swearwords will, in the worst case, make some people feel insulted for a while. Freely admitting that he steals someone else's bandwidth (without indicating that it's a joke) might, again in the worst case, convince some people that bandwidth-theft is a socially acceptable behaviour and/or the victim's fault for not securing his wireless network.
  24. If reporting a real-life criminal is tantamount to saying "Oh boy, which clan member am I going to report today?", I humbly suggest you choose another clan. - They can ban him. - Maybe it didn't happen in the USA? In civilised countries, it's much more than a "minor federal crime". Such a criminal isn't anyone's "buddy". In many countries and/or with many internet providers, one can ony download a given amount of data each month. Not to mention, having two users at the same time slows down his connection. So yes, he is doing harm. I don't do such things. It's simple. Petty? The guy was a real-life criminal. Seriously, are you suggesting people should be reported and banned for something as harmless as swearing language, but not for actual real-life theft?
