You think you'd be able to unholster a gun, turn the safety off and shoot an armed criminal pointing a gun at you and watching your movements? You're either [developmentally delayed]ed or superman :| If I was in a situation where I was confronted by an armed criminal I'd give him what he wants, a phone and wallet isn't worth the possibility of your life.
  2. The American army is voluntary isn't it? No conscription in place? The Iraqi situation will never be big enough for conscription (Mandatory army service) to occur unless a full blown Middle-Eastern situation occurs most likely involving Israel / America, WW3 essentially. Then again we don't know how far Obama will go with his youth corps.
  3. Being an Atheist I wont be religiously celebrating holidays, I'll still attend Christmas so I wont appear rude to my relatives. Christmas to me no longer means the birth of "Our Lord" but instead it's a family gathering where we all sit down, have a 3-4 meal and for once every 6 months or so, were all there together. I prefer that to anything else on Christmas, if I had a choice between presents or a family gathering the 2nd option would win hands down, Christmas isn't supposed to be about Materialism.
  4. Because people view it as an unskilled noobs way of adding to their DC as it requires no skill at all.
  5. Well a new guy in my class was having a party with all his old friends, I didn't know it was his house and obviously enough his parents were away. Me and my friends were pretty drunk, we tried to crash the party but that didn't work so long story short we ended up kicking in the front door, robbing 2 liters of various spirits and running. He still doesn't know it was me.

I do some time think about the prospect of other life forms and solar systems out there like ours which is more than likely happening right now when you think of the true vastness of space. But when I think of this I also think of reality, many solar systems are 100's or even thousands of light years away, and there is no possible way of surpassing the speed of light so coming into direct contact with them will probably, logically anyway never occur. I live about 3 -4 miles from Dublin city center so unfortunately nearly all viewing of stars is blocked off by "light pollution"

Is the life of a criminal really more valuable than the possessions of an honest person? Through proper rehabilitation and reformation techniques a criminal can be reformed into a an average citizen, instead of just throwing them into a 3 X 5 box for "x" years which only helps them share techniques and form further bonds with criminals, a quote from a autobiography of a Criminal I read Borstal = Young juvenile detention centers in Ireland St Pats = St Patricks young offenders institution, for the 16-19 age group. The Joy = Mountjoy prison, Ireland's most infamous prison. Said by an unnamed criminal who spent more than 60% of his life in and out of jail, referring to in the book to the many techniques he picked up in those various detainment institutions while they offered no incentive to reform other than the lack of freedom, which resulted in him just further honing his "criminal education" while that could've been easily combated by allowing the criminal to take part in prospect creating programs for when they leave prison, turning him away from a life of crime. Most prisons nowadays don't reform the criminal but instead often help them further improve their "criminal education" and make new friends to help them out when on the wrong side of the law. If the government were to get off their [wagon], provide criminals with some hope and job prospects for when they leave prisons other than the basic and redundant programs they offer know, there would most likely be quite a drop in minor crime levels such as Drug dealing, theft, fraud etc. If you seriously value your goods (covered under house insurance) over a human life which can be reformed, then I view you as nothing more than a ignorant piece of materialistic scum. :|
  8. I'd make a reality version of the British show "Skins" as me and my friends are pretty alike to many of the characters and situations, it would make for some pretty funny viewing considering it would be reality 8-) If that wasn't possible I'd go on "SAS: Tough enough?". Reality show taking 12 random citizens and put them through a toned down version of the SAS training, the winner receiving 50,000 pounds.

Where as if the thief had needed to arm himself for self defence it would have been a very different outcome. But he was, it would be pretty easy to stop a unarmed thief going about your house. He was armed with a hunting knife, I knew if I didn't act as he wanted I'd be in pretty bad shape, gave him the stuff he wanted and he was on his way.
  10. I seriously hate when white middle class suburban kids pretend to act and speak "Gangsta" thinking it will make them look hard. Your physicality and mentality are what make you hard, not what tone of voice you speak in and the vocab you use. Bet if she got in a fight she'd be down on the ground getting her head kicked in within 10 seconds, seems like that kind of person anyway, wonder how hard she'd feel then? Look at it this way, the current generation of kids the same age as the girl in the video with an IQ exceeding 90 will be clever enough to vote for people who actually are intelligent and will know how to run our country, she'll more likely be working in McDonalds or something menial along those lines.

Am I the only non-American here who thinks the American version of pre-18th Century history is grossly misinformed and fantasised? I guess that's what happens when your country's history only spans three centuries (if that). Let's look at the case for guns being a means of self-protection. You can either take two scopes on this. The first way you can look at it is that the likelihood you will ever need a gun to defend yourself is so low it doesn't warrant a constitutional right to bear arms, or, the likelihood you will ever need a gun to defend yourself is so justifiable, that the crime rate is so ludicrously high there's a serious problem with America and crime anyway, thus nullifying the argument that guns help lower violent crime. Either way, I cannot see any reasonable justification for a normal citizen needing a gun. I'm going to ask Ginger a question which I feel backs up his first point, Ginger obviously enough Guns aren't legalized where you live, yet do you ever feel the want or need for a gun at home in terms of protection? It's the same situation in Ireland, guns are illegal, yet I've never felt the need for a gun in terms of protection. If a person broke into my home I'd happily allow him take whatever is in my home, sure I'd even lead him to what he wants knowing my home insurance will cover it, a human life isn't gone to waste (killing or seriously injuring him) and as soon as he leaves I can give an accurate description of him to the cops if applicable. I've been in that situation before, got away unharmed physically, insurance paid for stolen property and he was caught within the hour.
  12. Pures are much more limited in their playing style and what they can do, you lose. 5/10 for 70 Str, good luck on 99.
  13. Because for a lot of the British empires earlier wealth they basically raped and pillaged countries such as India, it's not that they think were to free, we just gained the majority of earlier wealth by colonizing countries and taking their natural resources meaning they never had the money nor technology to fully develop. A small extremist terrorist cell isn't the opinion of the entire country, such as the terrorists thinking were to free, India relies on Western countries to help develop it's economy and improve it's country's wellbeing, not every citizen thinks the same as the extremist terrorists.
  14. Play Wow. Answer: I don't have much knowledge of either games, I do know Warhammer is pretty much the best MMORPG for PvP other than guild wars but AFAIK that sucks. Warhammers got a couple of instances, but apparently it's quite a grind. Really we need Nadril for this topic
  15. Any job which involves the prospect of death should be 100% voluntarily. Just out of curiosity what is it the Singaporean army does, peace keeping and border control I assume due to it not having any civil / international wars going on. I plan on joining the army after college, spending anywhere from the minimum 4 years till retirement age (65 I think). My plan would be to enlist as an Officer in the British army and if possible (and depending on the situation in Northern Ireland) to join the Irish battalion. In certain circumstances as well conscription can lead to a badly performing army due to low moral levels and lack of enthusiasm / determination per average soldier.
  16. Me and some friends let 4 chickens go off around the school numbered 1,2,3 and 6, oldest trick in the book but funny all the same. Was 2 days before the Irish rugby team were having a dinner in our school after a game, school was closed for the 2 days while they tried to find the chickens numbered 4 and 5  There was a roman candle 35 shot dropped in class as well, burnt 2 people and set fire to 3 bags, funniest thing I've seen in school.
  17. I'd pretty highly doubt that, this is a forum, built on opinions, loose facts and unsourced information quite often. He'd get better information from Wikipedia than here :|
  18. My motto and life saying. If nothing is impossible I've been doing the impossible for the last 16 years.
  19. Guy in my class still doesn't know it was me who robbed 2 liters of various spirits and broke his front door at a house party
  20. I suppose it would be hard to imagine modern day life without the Industrial revolution but IMO Yes we are better off without it, ultimately the Industrial revolution was the first economic boom which lead to the rest, meaning we've had more money to tinker with things like Healthcare, Infrastructure, Education resulting in better and more efficient systems. If if didn't occur we could quite possibly still be a primary based nation, Ie Farmers, Foresters, Miners in majority instead of a Third based nation, Bankers, Doctors, Service providers basically in majority. We'd be much more spread out among the countries we live in and infrastructure, healthcare etc wouldn't be up to the grade it was.
  21. Already know what I'm getting, Thurs - Sun camping ticket for Ireland's biggest music festival :D Suppose I'll get some other stuff though, clothes or money would be good, other than that nothing I want really.
  22. Here's the thing though, it's not like this was the first time it has happened in Mumbai in recent times. Only 2 years ago there were co-ordinated train bombings there that killed over 200 people. Do westerners have to die before terrorism is taken seriously? Unfortunately I've never heard of that event and that goes back to Western media only informing us of Western targeted acts of terrorism, we heard of the Madrid train bombings but not the Mumbai train bombings, why? Ones west and ones east, the media doesn't care for the east, the same with a lot of ignorant Westerns. Yet if this was to happen in New York, it would be broadcasted worldwide. Shows how sad, profit driven and uncaring this world is becoming,
  23. Violent games aren't the cause for kids imitating them, it's bad parenting or adults acting irresponsible and giving them to young kids who don't know the difference between reality and game. It always pisses me off when violent games get blamed for something, it's not the games fault, it's the [developmentally delayed] who gave the game to the kid. I've been playing GTA games since I was about 10, I've played many other slice & dice games or shoot'em ups. I'm not very violent, less violent than a lot of people my age. Yet these games are supposed to makes us violent rampaging murder committing lunatics? Bull[cabbage].
  24. It's only another 9/11 if westerners are involved apparently, because these attacks happen and result with local casualties very often wtihout anyone noticing it. That's not to say it's sick as hell, they apparently even killed children, for that alone they should have no right to even be alive anymore. It doesn't matter what country a human is from like Ginger_Warrior said. Nobody has the right to kill innocents. When I said that I didn't mean it as a statement of preventing western attacks, but preventing terrorist attacks in general, I was comparing it to 9/11 as that was also a learning experience in anti-terrorism measures. Every human life is equal, whether a wealthy westerner, an impoverished African or a sweatshop working Asain, all are equal and all deserve to be free from terrorist attacks, no matter where they're from.
