What's the "soi" meme? Like, "My roflcopter goes soi soi soi soi soi soi."
  7. A general question, do add-ons cause Firefox to open slower?
  8. Because their support sucks. What's even worse is that they send you these computers knowing the issues and then they give you blatantly incorrect fix dates. I was told that their ATI drivers would be updated in January, they still are not and I was experiencing the same issues the last time I touched that computer. What few problems I have had with Dell products (the laptop's max screen brightness running on battery is capped in the BIOS to prevent accidental battery drains, 5 min fix) have been addressed quickly, and to my complete satisfaction. I spent less than a minute waiting for a representative. Their support is fine. I was sent three computers, all with the same issues. I spent 40 hours documented on the phone and four hours on the Dell Technical Chat minus the DellConnect function. I was sent one motherboard, four video cards (two of which were not correct), four wireless cards (because they forgot it on my order and on all the computers following, one was sent and didn't fit), one HDD (which wasn't the size I ordered) one 6GB RAM set, four fan sets which includes two CPU fans and two case fans. I contacted the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, a CNet journalist, the General Attorney for the State of New York, and Dell's legal center. After all of those were contacted, I received a phone call from Dell's Head of Boards (or something of the sort) and he promised me a refund and a compensation for my time. But I declined the compensation, as all I wanted was the refund. To this day, it is not processed. I have now filed at $21,000+ lawsuit against Dell because of their poor support and neglectfulness on consumer products. I'm glad you have experienced good things from Dell's customer support but there is no way I will ever recommend Dell ever again. [/hide] Have you won yet? It's still pending. There's no way I'm going to court though; Dell would be stupid not to refund me the $1,000 I paid for the computer.

Windows Movie Maker and iMovie allow you to import from a webcam. I'm assuming you have the first. Have you given that a try?
  10. I grew up in the US and have always learned and used the metric system. Some people stare blankly at me because they have no perspective of a kilometer, but I've always used it.
  11. Jagex might have also upped the engine to use more memory. I'm assuming that, since the development of RSHD, few people play in SD with under 256MB of RAM. Just a theory.
  12. What use is Vista, even with more RAM, if he wants to game? He's going to get more FPS in XP.
  13. You really think it is wise to use 64 bit XP? Sure, that's great and all if you want 90% of your programs to simply not function (including games). Vista 64 > XP 64. There isn't even any comparison honestly. XP 64 blew chunks. Also 4GB of ram these days is seriously like $30. There is no reason not to have that much. It's a 700MB difference at most, and it's not going to make a difference if he's not going to use it. Crysis doesn't even take up 100% of my 2GB of RAM.
  14. I prefer Macs now because of Vista, not the other way around. I don't hate Vista because I like Macs. That and I have an XP partition on here and use Windows everyday. Just because I use and prefer Macs now doesn't mean I hate Windows. None of the games he wants to play require 4GB of RAM, nor is he going to use it all. And, what is to stop him from buying 64-bit XP? It's not a comparable variable because both systems can use those amounts of memory.

  16. You can't download those, you have to buy them. If you have the CD that you used to install them in the first place then you should be able to. Even if you could find a place to download it, it would likely be filled with trojans.
  17. I've contemplated suicide everyday for years. Considering the irrationalities of the world, I don't see anything wrong with it.
  18. Did you guys load Vista on a machine or buy another machine with Vista preloaded? I never had an issues with Windows before Vista. Anyways, he wants this computer for gaming, so I'd go with XP.[1] Vista is, at best, marginally faster than XP in certain aspects, but in others it's blown out of the water by XP.[2]

  21. Wow, he's gotten older.
  22. For all that get over worked about gay marriage, why should opposite genders get married? From a survival point of view, would it not be more advantageous for a male to get knocked up with every female he sees? Not that it is really required today. If marriage is indeed not required and is only benefitting the upbringing of a child, who is to say that two people of the same gender cannot do that? If it's to provide love and deepen one's relationship, why should two people of the same gender be denied from that?
  23. While godwarring, nothing. I closed all other apps and tabs in Firefox to make sure I had zero lag. I'm not on the computer having problems at the moment, but my speedtest usually run about 300kbps down and 75kbps up (line is a 1.5-3.0MB DSL line). Java[Caution: Executable File] starts out occupying 66mb of memory and then increases to 179mb (I don't know if it's increasing gradually or [bleep]ing) and my computer just chokes. Sometimes I can ride it out and my cpu usage drops back to normal levels (from 100%) and sometimes it just stays at 100%. Java isn't usually the issue, as it does demand a lot of memory. If it happens occurs only when Java [bleep]es, then we know it's a physical problem. I would try uninstalling and reinstalling Java though.
  24. What other things do you have open when playing Runescape? I have the exact same CPU with an Intel IGPU and I can run RSHD and watch a Hulu movie while powering a 19" monitor. If you want, you can run this which will test your download speeds. Post the results if you do it.
