It won't be the same as it was in 2012 and you'll get bored. It's not wise to revive old topics because...

Pokemon Go
I took a vacation to west Nebraska and south Dakota last weekend and got to see a bunch of Pokemon that aren't around the cities of East Nebraska, which was cool. A lot fewer drowzees out there. Omaha/Lincoln are littered with them. Downside is that I'll probably never be able to evolve all these rock types we found, since they aren't around anywhere I live, so no candy is available. Also, there were growlithes and vulpixes out there, none of which we found, so we'll never get those either I suppose. Still, it was cool how even a short distance location is enough to find new mons.

I've found that I have better luck fetching video drivers from AMD/NVidia rather than system builders or video card manufacturers, especially on older hardware. I checked there first, and NVIDIA didn't have the drivers for my card. I ended up just downgrading to the previous version again, which lost some work, but whatever I guess.

Usefulness of subforums
Yeah but it was only OT voting, it wouldn't be fair to change the whole skeleton of the site based on 19 regulars from OT. I was mostly concerned with being able to necro old threads for fun. Because who doesn't love a thread revival from half a decade ago every once in a while? According to my most recent warning point, the mods.

If they have already transitioned, then the "obligation" is on the same level as telling you about an abusive ex, or that they were on the #1 basketball team in their state in college. As in, these are things you're likely to find out in the process of getting to know someone, but if it's never relevant to your relationship it may never come up, and that's perfectly fine too. Pre-transition, or if they're not planning on transitioning, is more complicated, I'll grant you. I also think it's more likely you're going to know they're trans then, because of the way society tells you to make assumptions about gender and the fact they're subverting those assumptions.

Does anyone know of a way to stop an input stream from being directed to a particular process/program? I bought a controller today to play a game I bought on steam, but the launcher for the game doesn't recognize the controller for some god damn reason, so I can't set the controls in a logical way. I figured I would just set the controls via JoyToKey, but then there's a double input. So if I can stop the game itself recognizing the controller, I can get it to work the way I want. I've looked everywhere I can think for a config/txt file that tells the game what buttons are what, but I can't find that anywhere, so this seems to be my only recourse. Edit: Never mind, finally figured out the thing to google and got it working. Damn, that was obnoxious.

Of course, but saying you're going to move because of political unrest (at least from the UK to Canada or a similar western country) implies the thought that there won't be similar issues at your destination. What are you trying to say?Fight me Oh god TIF is just like [insert country here]'s government!

In response to Muggi's posts looking for citations: I have read a couple articles/reports on studies on which my opinion is based, but it's been a few years, and looking a couple hours the last couple days I couldn't find the things i read, nor anything supporting or denying my claim. So I guess I can't provide it, at least not without putting more time than I'm willing into this argument. Anyway, something more relevant to the current tangent, I feel like a lot of what you have to say about "happiness" just boils down to assimilation vs. accommodation. Where your position is almost unyeildingly assimilation, because assimilation is the thing the different person does individually, whereas accommodation is the thing society around that person does. And, like, I understand your argument about taking care of your own happiness and not relying on the people around you, but in some cases that's not possible. There *are* cases where demanding accommodation is necessary, and there are a lot of cases where accommodation provides greater long term happiness to more people than assimilation possibly can. Even as an individual, you can't always expect to just fit into the mold other people desire of you, and it's absolutely reasonable to expect them to accommodate you.

If person A is jokingly using the word with person B, and they both "consent" to the term, then who, specifically, is that hurting? Especially if person A and person B never use the term maliciously and exclusively use it "consensually?" The gay people person A and B meet in the future. Less specifically, the lgbt people affected by policies and laws which hurt them that the two are complicit in. Is it 100% true all the time that person A and B will go on to be in favor of homophobic actions or laws? No. But 1) the desire to use a slur is an indication of internalized prejudices and 2) the association with negativity in a situation where it doesn't matter is just a little bit of a push towards associating the lgbt community with negativity in situations where it does matter. Especially if they don't recognize that as a situation that matters.

I don't think anyone here is arguing that people not in the group hurt by the slur have to be okay with being called the slur. Just that using a slur in any negative context, and in many positive contexts, reinforces the negativity behind the slur, which is negative for the oppressed group regardless of whether the recipient is part of that group. So, the argument is that the speaker shouldn't use the word in any context that reinforces negative stereotypes, not that the target needs to brush it off if it doesn't apply to them. Just to clarify as well, "joking" insults are still insults, and they reinforce that negative stereotype just the same. Maybe worse, because it's often defended as being uncriticizable because it's a joke and no one really meant it. That's why calling your straight friend a f*g as another straight man is skeevy. I just can't imagine a situation where that's positive in any way.
