  1. From the Hidden Updates Sticky, November 2010: Does that stay like that if you've been a member, but didn't train any of the member skills? If being a member at any point would change that to showing the amount of xp, then this would be a very simple way to prove if someone is pure F2P or not. I was referring to the part where a person would know if they are F2P or not, kind of like a consciences thing. When people ask me similar question, I just told them that I have no idea how member world works, plus if you are honest to yourself, that's usually good enough.
  2. Interestingly enough, big bones were about 300ea before introduction of GE. I would assume you can try to buy at 300ea at GE now, it just takes longer, but people will sell nevertheless. I bought about 2.5mil rune essence myself just to get RC to lvl 99, but bought extra 700k of it just hope if they ever go back up again.
  3. How much did that cost you? Probably a whopping 240mil ish totally conservative estimate. I am thinking about buying just regular bones to bury, but that would equate to even longer time........
  4. Maybe some sort of special highscore for those individual? I always think that if a person dies, his/her account will die with them, after all, its who the player is, not the achievement (at least IMO)
  5. It's sad to see another top F2P go, but everyone gotta move on sometimes. Good luck with life and maybe see you around once in a while. Don't forget to do holiday events!
  6. I agree with the above statement, I think Water mentioned this before. We (F2P) are perfectly fine with what we have now, anything extra is a bonus. Even if they set F2P version of RS back 4 to 5 years ago, I would still play, because I am in it for the simplicity of things. I am just very glad I have this wonderful free game to play with on my spare time, and slowly work toward my goals. Remind me how we have to handle things carefully for legal document, any kind of wording or statements sounds a bit too gray or not clear enough will immediately make the whole incident into triple overtime.....
  7. Even though I don't think its intended, but if the person doesn't want to be on the list, then there is no need to add them to the list and further to explain yourself to everyone that your F2P. It's kind of off setting that you don't want to be on the list, and people still scrutinize you over your F2P status. I also agree to the statement that, being on the list is a good thing, but it wasn't their primary goal to begin with, everyone plays the game because they like the game (some do play to get on the list and try to be best they can be). It would sucks big time if people doubt my pure F2p status and I have to explained everything over and over again, thus losing valuable time trying to play the game I want to play. Plus, rumors and news travels fast in the community, it might bring some negative image to the player unintentionally. Only the player themselves would know if they are truly pure F2P, I would say having all those investigation on a player would be required if they want or plan to be added on the list. Just my 2 cents.
  8. I found superheating to be very effective, since you can train smith at the same time. But it all boils down to repetitive clicking, so I guess only magic spells that doesn't require such attention focused nature would suit your need? I started superheating to train my smith, and my mage has long surpass lvl 99 since I started even though my smith is not even 97 yet.
  9. In response to gambling, I think its ok as long there is a secure way to make sure players participate in such a event won't lose their bet to potential scammers. In response to P Mod, Again, I am sure there are couple people who shouldn't deserve the pmod status, but I don't think they would offer any unfair advantage in terms of gameplay. Also, player are free to report Pmod if they break rules too, anyone who break rules will be subject to punishment, Pmod including (in fact, they should get punished even more since they are suppose to upheld and enforce the rules, well at least not to break any). In response to Mafia.......that's just like online bullying....so report them when appropriate offense occurs, or put them on your ignore list, or maybe get other pmods to be present.
  10. Totally, I can agree that its not as dramatic when Franzk get his prayer 98 and 99 respectively, but its all the same nevertheless (he just got the chance to be the 1st F2p to get there). Gratz again on such a crazy achievement (which I think to this day, as a F2P, only RC and Prayer is true hard skills left to train now.
  11. I agree that trust games such as those should be clarify by Jagex to see if they are actually sanctioned, because it can totally swing either way. No matter how legit it is, its an online game, and there bound to be a risk. I know its playing safe, but at least less people get scam (or we can just ban free trade again). On another note, after reading through the topic, I am a bit confused where the thread now stands. Not saying that their argument mean anything rather then he said she said, but are we still talking the whole thing in general, or between one player vs a clan and their suppose dominance over a certain market.
  12. Does any other top F2p ever been on friend list of Galaxygy or Mendark 9? I never really bothered with the account, but the player behind the account. Or at the very least, the person who made that account legendary, Now I know whoever is in charge of Mendark is not the original player, to me, its just another player (and he flaunts his stat, then just another noob player). Thought it is quite interesting to note that account can be recovered that way, and nothing left in his bank. Lol I made many friends during my RS career, many have left the game, and even if they do come back, its usually not the original owner. By the time I found out about it, I usually delete them, since they were not the ones I made friends with (not to mention them breaking the rules at the same time). It's not the account that makes who we are, its who we are that make the accounts awesome.
  13. I really like the first article, even though the cape thing doesn't apply to me much, but I can see why some F2per get upset over the promises Jagex couldn't keep (guess they have to make sure their wording is very specific in the future). As for the 2nd article, I can only relate somewhat since I am F2p, in essence, all the skill are not really skill because you simply find the most efficiently way to train and grind ur way to lvl 99, or lvl 120. I remember how it was a big deal to hit lvl 99 milestone, and less ppl complain about the repetitiveness of it (less than today's time anyways). But so many new skills have come under scrutiny over players when its released it doesn't feel like much anymore. Not to mention that any skill in which bot is involved becomes easier to train. Which means Skill make heavily use of raw materials are not consider skills anymore (fm and cooking) Skill that heavily based on co operation and use of other skill is consider mini game (you still grind, except you grind in groups and u do have to paid attention to it) When I play RS in the past, I remember a lot of my skill have interaction with each other, I would cook fished I fished for training, I would sell the logs I chopped or bank them to start fire for cooking. Making armors and ammulets for myself etc etc. Now fast forward 6 years, I just mass buy everything, start grind away, and make sure cash flow is positive instead of negative. Even though it somehow depresses me, but that's how game goes. If you try to do anything out of ordinary, people would say you are wasting your time and devoid of any efficiency. To those people who think they can't make good money in F2p or P2p, think again, you just need to flex your characters muscle and go into gathering business, and if you don't spend money on ridiculous decorations, you will still have a lot of money. Hey, maybe not enough cash to buy several lvl 99 skills, but its enough to buy full set of runite armor (most people's goal back in the old days, I remember my first rune scimi cost 35k, and I was happy for it for over 2 months, then again, from mith scimi to rune scimi is a huge jump).
  14. It was pretty useful for me when I start the game (though I like Tip It's interface and and vast amount of information a lot better, since it was intuitive and easy to use). I pretty much use RSOF and RS knowledge base before I start trust other fan site for information. It wasn't until I found out Tip has skill calculator and quest information, and Tip it Times, then I start to use Tip more frequently.
  15. I thought it was really funny to have name like that, my relative who introduced me to RS has Poo in his character name and it was attracting a lot of hilarious attention at time. (He and other friend has similar user name and pretty much become a "Poo" squad). Anyways, when I start the game, I knew I am going to stick with that name for long time, so I actually take time and think about it (took me ten minutes actually). So it actually paid off in the end because I like it, and many ppl in game comment that my name is quite good and original (like no numbers behind it or 2nd and third, or any other famous show's main hero with number behind them). So even if your name is not what u want in the first place, ppl still associated u with it. I remember when name change become available, I was having hard time to telling who is what.
  16. lol It's already a losing war. Even if people report the bots, nothing will happen. Sorry for any grammatical errors, it was pretty late, and I just wanted to finish the post and head to bed (then again, I never really bother with grammar when I type anyways). But honestly, that's what the knowledge base section is for, and most players don't even use it, instead of believing rumors or some made up wild nonsense. I know from the start that its a losing war, the statement is simply saying that you should at least try to make some difference, much less than giving an impression that we should just give up and concede to the bots. Many people in the RS community would like to see them go, and at least it will give some satisfaction to extreme wings (people who absolutely hate bot and blame Jagex and Pmods for not doing anything at all) I do hope Jagex is working on something big that put a dent on bot population, at least it will boost some confidence in players that its worthwhile to report bots and still believe in Jagex ability to make the change.
  17. Yeah, I went for my daily bot reporting sweep through W7 and found far less then usual. And this was like 12 hours after the update. I guess some bot owners don't turn the bots back on right away for fear of breaking? Regardless, 12 hours after an update and there were still 50,000 less players online than normal.... :ohnoes: That's good, if Jagex could make small update like that every 2 to 3 days, RS will remain a better place........ When I am world 113 training, unless I am at grand exchange, everywhere else is just dead quiet despite the number of players at several popular training spot. Then it would take to long to check to see which one of them is botting because u don't want to drag legit player into it. At the new capes and how it wasn't released to F2p. That's ok, most F2p that caliber, playing for that long won't care about that kind of stuff. You have the combat lvl to show off (whether u like it or not), and the Top 250 F2p list to rely on, those 2 beats those capes any day... oh forget to mention highscore.
  18. Perhaps we should organize an interview session with players and player mods who have issues how report works so that they know not all the Pmods are alike, or maybe Jagex can host such a session, or at least post on the RSOF forum to clarify what a PMmod can do and what they can CHOOSE to do. Granted, they have power which Jagex bestow them which is, well, mute (a temp one too).....why isn't anyone checking the knowledge base to see what power PMod has? You can't exactly ask a Pmod to ban a botter, and expect a flash of lighting strike on thy abomination and then its banned forever. I was mining in resource dungeon, spot a bot going all over the ores, I report the darn thing, 1 week past, nothing happened to the bot, its name still on the highscore.....so either Jagex has issue dealing with all the sheer amount of report just on bots, or they simply hasn't done anything, or maybe the player is legit. If I report all the bot I see, then I won't be able to do anything at all. Say I walk from Fally bank to Easter Event portal, i would at least see 30plus on the way there, cutting yews and willows like mad. Or if I want to train my fishing at Karajama spot, I would probably see another 30 plus.......thats endless reporting for me. well there goes my lvl 99 skill. I will make occasional report here and there, but only if I am at that spot, training a skill which requires me to be there. I won't go all over RS to hunt for them. I even seen those broken bot that just walking from Edge bank toward the yew trees and walk back again for at least 10 minutes, I report it, and hopefully something is done to it. I can safely tell you, a report will take a while, maybe long time, the best thing you can do is REPORT IT YOURSELF. IF a player mod isn't doing anything about a bot, you can give them a reminder (or at least ask them if they reported that bot yet) that there is a one that need reporting, and if they don't want to do it, its their choice, they DON"T have to do it. Remember, the ratio of bot to Pmod is like well, ALOT. So its' a losing war if only Pmods are doing it, but if all the players report those bot, I am sure bots population will be reduced a lot more. At the end of the day, unless someone boycott Jagex, like all the F2p and P2p suddenly suspend their play and state they wont play unless bot problem is solved, I really doubt Jagex will do anything drastic to it (in fact, they did, by taking wildy and free trade away). Back to the ORIGINAL topic, at least those Bot Busting event are doing something to the bot population, it might not be much, but its still something. In the end, its still down to the majority of RS players, its their greed to want to buy Gps that supply a reason for RWT, its within their power to report (and last time I check, every one has a report tab), to report any rule breakers (not just bot).
  19. I am not sure how the ads work, but I know there are several types of them out there. There is one for simply putting ad so everyone can see (so ad company probably charge a flat fee for putting those ad for x amount of time). There is also one where everyone can see, but the advertising company's ad need to be clicked so the hit counts could convert to cash to pay the ad company. Now, that being said, I am sure whoever is botting will have the ad turn off by anti ad program coz some flashing ad taking up computer resources, not to mention you open several at the same time. If the service fee is flat, so that means it wont be much unless Jagex charge a huge amount, and if the ad is not there to click on, Jagex won't make much either. Jagex never made much with F2p ad's anyways, the contribution from those ad are probably enough to keep service and basic maintenance going, most of the money probably comes from P2p. Those are just my guess, but unless you somehow got Jagex operating budget and report, no one will ever know how much each side contribute.
  20. This might sound a bit extreme, but just make that area PVP, lol. Let all hell break loose. Putting a medium lvl NPC monster at bot gathering spot would definitely do the trick, until bot programmer thought of something to counter it again.
  21. Ye but im not being mean but your just one person they probably ruin the experience of 2/3 of the valid runescape population. This is totally untrue - and random as well. I do admit that bots do make me feel like I'm being cheated but think about the past few days for rune essences. When the Jagex (either banned the rune essence mining bots) or somehow broke it - the price of pure essences shot through the roof - over 150. Who the hell is going to RC if it's a.) one of the slowest skills in the game b.) provides no real benefit c.) takes a chunk out of your bank? This is for a relatively unpopular skill such as RC - I couldn't imagine what would happen to the price in game if bots were totally banned. It would be almost impossible to level prayer/herblore at any effective rate without massive merchanting involved. For the most part - bots don't bother me in the game (other then the fact that they make my achievements feel not as great) Either way - you can 99.999% beat a bot in whatever they do so I don't really consider them a threat. In many cases, you can exploit a bot to make your own rs-ing more fun/effective. I don't know about you guys, but I think many thread already has something like this talking the pro/cons of RS economy due to bots. From what I observed so far, the essence price do go in proportion with whatever runes you are making. When I start playing RS. Rune ess can go from 20 to 50gp (people merchant them and selling them in huge amount each, but airs usually hovers around 20gp each. Which means, if you mine your own essence for a while, and wait until your RC lvl make it profitable, you will not lose cash at all. Secondly, the influx of new players will want to earn income by mining essence, while veteran players provide Gp for their services. The method worked before bot becomes a real issue, and it will work again if all the bots suddenly magically disappear. It will just take some time for the price to stabilize. Botting is always and has been against the rule, it seems really stupid to me that people just get used to them eventually or even seem them as a necessity. It's all fine and dandy, wait until you start gathering something, or want to train at your favorite spot, and watch it filled with bots so bad that it ruins your game experience. Then you will think otherwise. I still have nightmares walking to some yew tree and see at least 30 baldy bots surround it and clearcutting it in less than 5 seconds. Then again, I am F2P, so not sure how much impact it has on P2p. Oh wait, yes, the yew log price drops, everyone, keep on buying from botters (lvl 3 selling absurd number of logs and raw lobs), makes legit player don't want to gather resource anyone. Suddenly the market crash because you can no longer free trade (anyone remember the introduction of pure ess? rune ess go from 30 gp average down to 10 to 15gp ea). Low material provider since bots are gone, and all the legit players don't want to gather anymore. Even with all that clear evidence, some of people out there will still go bots are essential to the RS economy. Then again, once you grow tired of RS, it will not mean anything at all. lol
  22. It's most likely the same guy. I don't mind if I am competing with real players because at least you know the other guy is real. Plus, people do share sometimes. With bots, they don't feel tired, and no effort at all which make it very frustrating to play against them. I also keep track of that particular bot, hopefully something is done about that one so I know if I report them in the future, something actually gets done.
  23. Explain a genuinely bot. What do you mean by hard time programing? They almost have a bot/script for everything unless were talking about something different. Well they would have to develop a bot that can differentiate the difference between a legitimate player and a bot. I just find it hard sometimes to tell if someone is botting or not because of their quite complex sub routines. So for example, if you just randomly report player would does a action repeatedly (like fm or cooking) but who isn't a bot, then the report would be useless and you can't get the 500gp reward (assuming we are still actually trying out for that silly reward). A bot that can tell genuine scripting or action of a bot is quite amazing (maybe its not, but I am noob when it comes to computer programming). So my silly idea was to create a bot that wipe out the mass generic less intelligent bots that exist in the RS (that one that gather resources and take up all the space). Then we develop a method to ID those smart bot and banned them all together. Just a thought.
  24. I always consider 2005 before is old, then again, that's when I started.
  25. I tried it with the scorpion at the Kara island, and it doesn't work too well because there are just way too many bots!! The poor scorpion would just jab one guy, get confused, jab the next guy, and then simply gave up and crawl away. Lol So I was like, oh well, do it the old fashion way of reporting them, in the end, I got confused too coz too many of them, and I don't know if I double report some of them.............
