I don't mind taxes as long as it's spent on things which are beneficial. I think that wasteful public spending should be cut back though, and also the personal allowance should be drastically increased to bring people on very low wages out of income tax altogether.

I live in a country where the age is 18 and there is a huge binge drinking problem, but even if it was raised to 21 or w/e it would probably not affect it in the slightest (or possibly even make it worse) - the binge drinking problem is caused by culture/attitude towards alcohol.

Increasing taxes is how we are going to end the debt. It's funny, people want to cut programs to end the debt, when the US really doesn't have that many programs as it is. We are pretty damned capitalist, in a major war, have little programs, and you want to CUT taxes??!!? Jesus crickey, talk about fiscal irresponsibility. Raising taxes will just make the recession even worse. Also, raising taxes does not always mean the revenue from them goes up.

From what I understand, what they are saying is that in the event of war, the missile shield in Poland would be one of the targets - not "threatening a nuclear attack".

While there is an obesity problem, this is not the way to solve it.
