  4. Because changing them would make the game better? And because, as Mod Vince talked about when announcing the "Upgrade Year" project, little things add up, and you can get a lot out of intuitive and user-friendly interfaces. I wasn't talking about grinding in general. I was talking about the mundane minor inconveniences of things like: [*:1l5ukl3y]The rubberbanding backtrack effect while running [*:1l5ukl3y]The redundancy of the original Grand Exchange interface [*:1l5ukl3y]The slow response time of combat familiars [*:1l5ukl3y]The way a foraging familiar interrupted what you were doing to generate items [*:1l5ukl3y]Having to go through a long dialogue for each individual elf crystal you recharge, so that before you can finish the inventory, Islwyn has already packed up camp and left [*:1l5ukl3y]Going through long dialogues with characters like Bill Teach instead of right-clicking them ...And so on. I don't know anybody who really enjoyed that crap, do you? Seriously. How is this stuff not all upside? :|

    I want to address this as well. Causing grovelling and controlling the conversation are not rights given to player moderators. In fact, it's more a concern with popular and famous players like Tehnoobshow, Zezima, or Gertjaars. That some people fling stones at mods or kiss up to them is hardly the fault of the mod in question, and whether they dominate the conversation is more a matter of personality than of the crown. Superiority and importance are not exclusive to player moderators either. Any player can act superior as long as they have something the player standing next to them does not have. It's very common to see higher-level players making fun of "n00bs." It has nothing to do with the crown. The muting and reporting abilities are a right of player moderators, and what gives them that right is their proven history of quality abuse reports that has shown they have a firm grasp of the rules, as opposed to those random n00bs who will try to report you if you don't give them free money. Presumably, the customer service team abhors wading through crappy invalid reports all day long, and much prefers looking at the abuse reports filed by a player they trust to be competent. (At least, that's how I'd feel, anyway.) As for that why you keep going back to, again, that's a personal issue, and those submitting their names for consideration are asked to answer that question individually. For me, if I was offered the post, what it would really come down to is why not, as I'm knowledgeable enough and whatnot to be qualified for the job, and the Pmod crown, while obviously not essential, makes it easier to help people. I mean, it's not as if the Pmod system has some huge negative impact on the community that it so badly needs to justify its existence. I think "Why not?" is an appropriate response. ... Well...yeah...you really don't know what you're talking about...

  8. this would be nice but we already have an altar. but then again a soul altar would make very much sense there. Soul altar is not in the Myreque quest line. It's probably in the Glouphrie series--it could plausibly be the power source the Arposandrans are using to warp the Anima Mundi. (Which is Latin for "soul of the world" if you didn't already know.) Either that or Elemental Workshop. Part 2 is mind, part 3 is body, maybe there's a part 4 that's soul. But we digress. The Chaos Elemental hint from a few months ago included the phrase "New Myreque Quest" verbatim. So it would appear that it's been in the works for a long time already. If we're lucky, it might show up by the end of the year, but if the developer in charge of it got put on something else, then it's more likely that we'll have a substantial wait. But I've got my fingers crossed--the story there is starting to get pretty good.
  9. As problems go, "too much money" isn't such a bad one to have. :thumbsup: If you have too much money, I'd be willing to help you dispose of some of it. I'm always ready to share a friend's burdens. :
  10. Well, quests definitely should NOT be random. Underground Pass was a horribly-designed quest and I absolutely do not want to see another one like it. (The giant spider part was cool though.)
  11. The solution is to not catch swordfish because they're crappy cash and xp anyway. =D> By the way, the way to do that dropping thing would be to drop a swordfish in your inventory already, then pick it up again at the end.
  12. Its part of the game itself. If you don't enjoy doing those things then why do you play at all? Is it laziness or you want everything to be done in a single click? Is there a problem with a little competition in game to chimpy spots or do you want it all to yourself? ...I stand corrected. Apparently I know at least one of those people. :ugeek: That's evading the questions and the point, and I don't see everyone leaving RS in droves because of these things either. Uh, yeah. Because they're not a big deal. Duh. I'm not going to quit playing Elder Dragon Highlander because I can't legally use a general that has a mana symbol in its text box that isn't in its mana cost; doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed anyway. Just because I happen to have a passionate disagreement with one part of the status quo doesn't mean I can't still have fun generating massive armies of creatures with my Rhys the Redeemed elf deck. Besides, none of this addresses my key points anyway, so none of it has any bearing on their validity...there's nothing to evade. =;

    Look, you obviously have no understanding of how moderators are, were, or ever have been selected. All you seem to understand is that reporting is involved somehow, and from that you've apparently drawn the conclusion (or you give the impression of having drawn it) that the only way to become a Pmod is/was to report as often as possible, period. That's simply NOT TRUE. :notalk: Your first paragraph is bang on the nose. The second is a little sketchy as reporters exist and witches don't. I think you missed that I was commenting on your logic. :thumbdown: Can you not see I'm making a point that even though something isn't against the rules, you're wishing it was for the reporting value? He's wishing for something to be against the rules for the "reporting value"? So now you read minds? You know all of a random internet stranger's hopes and dreams? :lol: The only thing you know about what a_local_guy's wishes comes from his posts. And rather inconveniently for you, his posts have also said he's not in it for the status and he'd like to be able to hide the crown. That's some pretty serious cherrypicking you're doing. :shame:

    Scamming is very minimal with the trade limits. And how often do you really see your second one? Honestly? As I have pointed out its very rare and I am normally in quite busy areas. If I saw that I'd report it myself but few players take the risk in saying such things. Plus there is the good old ignore button for those heavy spammers. You see then that frequent reporting is hardly necessary, because rulebreaking that can't be handled verbally is so uncommon. For example, I wouldn't report somebody for talking about the Runescape Wiki, even though it's technically illegal. Most player mods would agree with me that such a situation would be better handled by giving the probably-accidental rulebreaker the benefit of the doubt. Am I right, mods? Would you admit to sending many reports? Of course you wouldn't because you're instantly admitting you're looking to report for a status. Jagex themselves said quantity then quality. According to local_guy its in single figures :lol: . Who would you believe? Jagex or pmods? You're right, no Pmod would ever admit to getting their "status" solely by reporting as many people as possible, as often as possible. If they say otherwise, they're obviously lying. Similarly, a real witch would never admit to being a witch, so if she denies the accusations, it proves she's a witch! Burn her! :ohnoes:

  16. My point is that it may be boring for some, not for others. Everyone has different tastes, for example I really enjoy thieving and farming, other people hate it, but still do it.....aiming for 99...and demanding that it is made easier and the grind is taken away....why? I dislike summoning, so I don't do it very often. Something might be "boring or cappy" for you or me, but someone else could really enjoy that part of the game. Okay, so not everybody thinks it's a problem. Some people apparently enjoy clicking individually on each gargoyle, clicking three times on a redundant interface to open up a buy offer on the GE, and hopping worlds for ten minutes to find an empty red chinchompa spot. I don't know who those people are. Take those people who enjoy the ectofuntus. Do you really think what they enjoyed about it was the laborious individual clicking of the buckets to the slime pool and the bones to the grinder? Typically the sort of upgrades we're talking about were implemented because those people who enjoyed the content in question demanded it. It was ectofuntus-worshipers who brought the grind-x issue to Jagex's attention in the first place. It was the cooks who asked for cook-x and the smiths who asked for smith-x. The people who enjoy something are the ones who care most about improving it. In fact, making skills faster is usually totally unrelated to these fixes. The main complaint about string-x was that it made fletching slower. And nothing to do with ectofuntus-ing is ever going to make it faster than a gilded altar. As I've already discussed at length, the updates that actually make skills faster rarely make them easier.

    No these are serious offences, or offences directly against the person. You would have to act, but how do you compare them to RS? The only time I have seen this in RS is when a player called someone a peadophile for revealing his age (think it was 50 or something like that). Its one of the few occasions that I have reported. The guy knew we had, as he recieved quite a lot of flak, then logged. 1. Scamming of all types 2. Offensive sexual innuendo; heavy spamming; flaming with racial slurs; etc. Jagex has always valued quality when evaluating reports of the players they consider for modship. Modship has never been solely based on how many reports you sent out. More than one mod here (Jake Corsair, for a recent example) has testified to sending out relatively few abuse reports before being selected. Pretty sure he already answered that. If you're not going to take his word for it, why bother asking? Its exactly what you have been doing though. Read it back to yourself. Priceless. You misinterpreting someone else's post =/= someone else contradicting himself.
  18. This is again one of the points I am making, if I find it boring I won't do it....that simple. I don't do the ecto grinder because I don't particularly like it. If I work on my prayer I do it another way, enjoyment is more important than speed for me. And this is where we lead back into the debate, people only aiming for the fastest way to 99 a skill, and totally losing sight of the 'game' of rs. :shame: Especially if you opt for a slower method of skilling up, and being able to have variety is what is important. It just seems that attention spans are so limited with many people, they want instant gratification and permanent stimulation otherwise they are bored. Oddly, enough, Stormveritas discussed this very same topic in the Tip.It Times this week, if you haven't already read it. Anyway, if part of the game is so un-fun that everybody avoids it, how is it a bad thing if that area is updated to make it fun so that people don't avoid it? I don't see your argument. "It doesn't matter that parts of the game are boring because I don't care about those parts, only the parts I want to do; therefore, people should stop playing the boring parts of the game." That's what I'm getting... :? If some aspect of the game is boring or otherwise crappy, that is a bad thing. I don't know where you got "people only aiming for the fastest way to a 99 skill, and totally losing sight of the game" out of any of this, either. It was never the topic of this debate and I never brought up anything about it. :-s And the two things are separate issues as well.
  19. You do realize that... 1. Jatizso has loads of harpoon spots for catching tuna, 2. Jatizso has a gigantic mine full of mithrite and adamantite and coal and stuff, 3. Neitiznot has yaks that drop yak hair and a spinning wheel to turn it into rope, 4. Neitiznot has a crafting shop that sells hatchets, knives, needles, thread, hammers, and nails, and 5. There's a bank easily accessible on both islands. You actually don't need any items to complete the quest other than equipment for the boss fight. And even then, you're provided with food and potions. I view Fremennik Isles as a paragon of good quest design: no items required, plenty of humorous dialogue, epic boss fight, awesome rewards. What's not to like? There's plenty of bad quests: Catapult Construction, Rat Catchers, In Search/Aid of the Myreque and Underground Pass are all pretty soporific and all-around lame. But the quality of quests has improved lately, for the most part.
  20. Excl seems like a good person to interview this week, yup. I liked Stormveritas's article.

    If your co-worker was embezzling, would you just ignore it? If a co-worker was sexually harassing you, would you just let it slide? Not a very good analogy tbh.
  22. Can it one-hit coal?

    Hydras are overkill. It's not worth the 2k gp for the pouch and the 200 gp for the scroll when you can already chop magic trees just as well by going to Lletya--that spot is rarely ever crowded enough to slow you down. At 99 woodcutting under similar conditions I can pretty consistently get 120 magic logs per hour and about 240 yew logs per hour. Not that I would recommend chopping either--eucalyptus is over 300 logs/hr, and if you do the math, you'll find that's better than yews in both xp and gp, hydra or no hydra. Oh yeah, and you could just use a fruit bat. That'll typically add about 15k gp/hr in additional profit, where the hydra would lose you money because of the cost of the scrolls.
  24. Cheap way, it would take you about a week I guess, maybe less. Do regular farming runs. If you truly do not want to be spending any more money than it'll earn you, do oaks and orange trees (there's actual profit in that if you have the strawberries to pay for the orange trees). Anyway, I guess tomatoes are good xp as cheap as it gets (like 7 gp for a seed?). This is how I do my farming runs: -Tree patch Lumbridge, plant oak or willow (or better even) -Teleport Varrock, tree patch. -Spirit Tree teleport (from G/e). Let Elko lead you out of the maze, there's a fruit tree patch next to it. Plant orange tree or better (payment is 3 baskets of strawberries). -Back to Spirit Tree, teleport Gnome Stronghold. There's a fruit tree patch and a normal tree patch. -Teleport Ardougne and do the allotments north of there. Then go south and take the boat to Brimhaven where there's a fruit tree patch. -Bank in between of course, for these 2 points bring electophial, explorer ring and of course seeds/payments. Teleport using your explorer ring and do the allotments north of the cabbage patch. -Teleport using your electophial and do the allotments near there. Keep in mind that you can also plant herbs (or flowers even) when doing the allotments. -Teleport Catherby and do the allotments there. There's also a fruit tree patch for you near the mountains. Also I would like to add that I can advice you to put new seeds in plant pots right after planting a sampling. This saves time (I always have several samplings banked. Samplings will also go to plantable state when banked. Well, that's a little too cheap. Tomatoes, for example, are a waste of time, and oak trees are much worse than willow trees. Plant herbs. Either kwuarm or snapdragon. That's going to make you huge profits very easily, enough to more than cover the cost of willow and curry trees. I would even go for some pineapples and maybe even maples--with regular herb runs, you can still probably break even. But willows and curries at the least.
  25. Almost certainly it will work. It works on all the other dragon drops, doesn't it?
