  1. I'd love to see someone counter argue that. http://matt.blogs.playtime-magazine.com/2010/04/26/why-i-dont-draw-mohammed-peace-be-upon-him-and-all-that/ i was thinking of making an own topic with this article as its outlet to challenge some of the old "dogmas" here on tif, here's a tiny extract (the whole thing is worth reading). this article is very pertinent. i don't know of an official press release, but yeah, i'd say the school of thought is a pretty clear counter-argument. however, "Christians" will at least resort to death threats for teaching factual evolution [note this is the factual, documented scenario where organisms collectively evolve during short periods of time, bacteria, insects and the like], much like "Muslims" are responsible for 9/11. one example: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2007/07/professors-in-c/ While he "finds it hard to believe" that's not the same thing as an international outcry. A few lunatics isn't the same as public pressure that merits cancelling the episode. I don't see what you're attempting to prove here - while there are radicals in every religion a few lunatics making death threats doesn't equal an international outcry.
  2. Yeah, it positions stuff "the long way". To the best of my knowledge it's the same with C# though. If you're looking at really complicated forms, coding them by hand can't hurt. Otherwise, GUI buliders are probably ok.
  3. I'm not saying people should try to forget, what I'm trying to say is get over it. That's very sensitive and considerate to the thousands of people who lost family members that day.
  4. South park has used Jesus in their episodes multiple times in ways highly unflattering, yet there were no death threats against the creators...
  5. Fixed according to my opinion. True.
  6. Moving this to Programming subforum as you'll get better answers there. Now to answer your question: Creating gui with netbeans is probably fine. While it can tend to slow things down a tad it's industry standard to use gui designers in multiple other languages so you'll be fine. Never hurts to learn the code though :P
  7. I also have[had] this problem at some parties because I don't drink/smoke either. What I learned quickly though, is that you can easily fit in with those types of people by acting like you drink. Show up to a club. Dance like an idiot. No one's gonna care because they're drunk, or they think you were. So no one's judging you. People drink in those situations to loosen up and be socialable. All you have to do is get to that level without inducing drugs/alcohol. It's a skill that's easily picked up, you just need to learn that no one judges you, and those that do don't matter. This is great advice...if you're looking to get the kind of girlfriend who will only like you if you're a drunken idiot. Just be yourself, sooner or later you'll find someone who likes you for that.
  8. Yeah it's very overwhelming due to the contrast.
  9. I like them :) Like your art style as well in the gif, nicely done.
  10. I get the safe mode message, but other than that no error. I'm about to test my memory and stuff.
  11. Thread possibly solved: This computer has a 700w psu, and I was running it on the same socket as a monitor, laptop, fan, alarm clock, speakers, and lamp. Might have something to do with it?
  12. Back in April I bought a new computer, it's generally worked pretty well except for a few things. SPECS: RAM: 8 gb PROCESSOR: Amd phenom 2 quad core 3.0 ghz VIDEO CARD: xfx radeon 5770 1gb ddr5 Occasionally it will just freeze completely - control alt delete does nothing, the only way I can get out of it is by shutting down. I should be able to play tf2 max graphics, but for some time now it won't let me use anti-aliasing at all, which is weird. Resolution is 1920x1080. I think it's my video card, but it's a good card and the drivers are up to date so I'm not sure what to do at this stage. Thanks in advance for the help.
  13. It's being posted as an introduction so it's ok, although a little personalization might have been nice :P
  14. Already posted ;) Locking.
  15. Welcome back. I've edited the title to say "Introduction" as well, just so people aren't confused :) EDIT: Please have him apply properly folliowing the directions found here: http://forum.tip.it/topic/204774-clan-forums-rules-info/page__view__findpost__p__3096030
  16. I hope to have hats for all classes eventually. 3/9 at the moment :( 4 if you count the camera beard.
  17. Sorry, I'll rephrase that. He's pushing for a affordable healthcare with public options for some. I absolutely agree that it's not public in essence, but it is an improvement in that regard. Note: I agree with the legislation and wish he could have done more. Don't really know what to say here, I don't know much american history. I agree to an extent - once again I'm no expert on American history. My point is that while elements of the political spectrum may have become more conservative, the left wing has done some pretty left-wing stuff as well. (legalize abortion, gay marriage on the way, stem cell research, etc etc.) You can't deny these things follow liberal ideologies. Not going to argue that, as I said...not well versed on this period in history. If Barack Obama governed the way he's governing in America in say, Britain? He'd be a Tory, through and through, although probably to the left of David Cameron. In Germany he'd be to the right of Angela Merkel. I know the response to that is "America is a center-right nation," but we're not. If you ask people about each issue, we'd be a center-left nation. Probably to the left of Britain, but to the right of most Western Europe. There's just too many reactionaries here who love Medicare and the VA yet denounce socialism. It seems a little contradictory of you to say here that American is a center-left nation when most of your previous posts have been attempting to show that America has become more right wing.. Certainly the American left isn't anything like the Canadian left, same goes for the right.
  18. Great, better post that here somewhere :P Great work as always. :)
  19. Yeah. But if you did do it, it would be just as bad as him doing it. I agree with what you're saying though, this is nothing more than hatred.
  20. That's not making a point, that's being spiteful and doing the same ignorance he is doing to all Christians. I disagree, obviously. It would be showing how ridiculous what he was doing via action. I could make a similar argument that many people make towards Islam except replacing that with Christianity. People would be outraged at first I'm sure, but hopefully they would see the point I would be trying to make; that any group as large as a religion is going to have it's fair share of extremists and crazies. Because it's true. I could probably find thousands of examples of "Christians" who have murdered or committed terrorism. So in short, it certainly is making a point, that it's not so nice when people are doing it to you. I'd say that's more stooping to his level then making a point....
  21. America isn't that politically diverse, you have a right wing which lurches further to the right every year and a centrist party which is also drifting to the right. I wouldn't say that is too diverse. I agree whole-heartedly with your last point though, they're just playing the game and they'll go out of their way to disagree over anything. Democrats are drifting to the right? Yeah...right. I Wonder why gay marriage is legal in some states and the president is pushing for public healthcare? I should have prefaced that by say some elements are drifting to the right. You just need to look at the Bluedog democrats to see what I'm talking about. I think it would also be interesting to compare and contrast the positions of democratic presidents/candidates from years gone by to illustrate my point. Just look at the extremely watered down healthcare bill that was passed by Obama, it sounds similar in some ways to Nixon's plan - (http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/2009/September/03/nixon-proposal.aspx). The Democrats may seem way to the left from a current American perspective but in reality they aren't that far to the left, especially compared to the Democrats of years gone by. I read an interesting article (I don't have a link) which was basically comparing american politics to Canadian ones. The point it made is that Canada is in general a country with liberal viewpoints, thus it's harder for conservative governments to fare well and pass typical "conservative' legislation. Stephen Harper has been pretty sneaky about it and done well, but only because he's watered down everything. The article says it's the opposite in the states - in general people tend to be more conservative so successful democratic governing often has to be watered down a little bit.

    I like em all...but wow at #1 and 3 :D
  24. Ahh Corr and DF, just like the good old days :P Good job both
  25. Yeah, seriously - if you're showing of your ps skills that's fine - I don't think people really care that you used a windows image as your base. Just don't try to pass it off as your own. That's not cool. The first one is really nice, the second is cool, not a huge fan of the others.
