  1. The Silent Circus and s/t are BTBAM's best albums, in my opinion. FTFX - Hikikomori Weeaboo chipbreak/chiptune. Pretty cool stuff.

    Today...

Too hot? It's absolutely lovely here. The only thing I don't like about summer is the regularity of electrical storms - thus forcing me to power off and disconnect a fair amount of my computer equipment. Don't need to fry anything, now. Also, I force myself outside because staying in for too long depresses me.
  3. I don't go outside enough to really worry about it. When I do go out, I usually end up in some building somewhere anyway.
  4. I finished Fate/stay Night today. I suffered post-series depression for about 30 minutes, and then a massive sense of awesome satisfaction kicked in. Certainly does feel good. [hide=]"I love you, Shirou." Oh Saber, you silly.[/hide]
  5. I think I would've just cracked up laughing if I ever heard that at a concert, to be honest.
  6. Yeah, I torrent most of mine too. BoxTorrents (or BakaBT as it's now called) is heaven for stuff like this. Make an account for searching, and then paste the URL of the torrent into IE or whatever other browser you use so you can download it without having to seed it. (Seeing as it's impossible to seed back anyway + semi-public tracker)
  7. I've only watched one episode of Eden of the East. The animation is absolutely stunning in it. I can't speak for the plot, obviously; but nonetheless I shall watch it all soon.
  8. You haven't seen FMA? That's kinda surprising. I'm not a huge anime freak but I love FMA. Maybe because it has a western fantasy setting . . . it's easier to get into for the casual anime viewer. And I'm so glad for the second anime following the manga :D You should definitely watch the original 51 episode series first though. The episodes of Brotherhood (English name for 2nd series) so far are a bit rushed since they share material with the original. That'll change next episode Well, yeah. I'm quite a casual anime watcher actually, and I seem to enjoy it more that way versus trying to watch every series imaginable. I bet it is. It's so much easier to relate to and enjoy something that's based in/on Western stuff than watching something largely based on Japanese stuff. (Which is the majority of anime, basically. They're good shows - but if you don't know much about Japan, they are rather alienating to new watchers and/or people like yourself, who just want something to watch and enjoy.) Which is largely the reason why I found Aria and Baccano! enjoyable, and I'm quite sure it's the reason why I'm finding Fate/stay Night enjoyable. (Latter is set in Japan, but there is a lot of stuff about Western mythology involved.) I've been keeping up with the news, and I can fairly say that fan response to the new FMA has been, on-the-whole, postive. All the more reason to watch it.
  9. This was exceptional. Very entertaining from start to finish. Oh, and she has a wonderful, wonderful voice.
  10. Oh. I can drive you from evil intent to absolutely murderous, without trolling. Because: I thought Haruhi was immensely overrated and overhyped too. I watched it at first, and I thought "well, this is okay". Then after I'd watched more anime I decided to watch it again. It seemed apparent that it suffered from the same flaws that TTGL does - and by that, I mean ridiculous plotline which I (and a few others I know) found little in, annoying as hell characters and generally being not very entertaining. I watch a fair amount of 'ridiculous' anime, but time travellers? Aliens? F*cking ESPERS? It felt like a smorgasbord of mishaps and bad ideas. Oh, not to mention that pretentious-as-f*ck airing order. What the hell. I'm not even gonna try and argue here. Clearly its just differing tastes, but I loved everything about haruhi and always will, even after numerous rewatches. I've watched gurren lagann.. I dunno.. 15 times all the way through, and it just never gets any worse. Perfect, in every possible way. Yeah. My taste in anime is quite... strange, to say the least; and it seems to differ quite some from most of the anime fans I know. I'm happy you understand rather than creating a lame argument about it, though. Also, I realised that I made Haruhi seem really bad. I don't think it's bad, and it's a good introductory series for anyone looking to get into anime. But I got into other things, and it just seems average with a few things that really don't appeal to my tastes. Similar with TTGL, although I couldn't get my head around it at all. Anyway, in other news: I'm considering watching Fullmetal Alchemist on recommendation from a friend. I said I was into fantasy/related stuff, so maybe it'll appeal.

I can hardly visit any site with anime news without seeing Haruhi everywhere. I hate anime nerds. They never know when to just let something go.
  12. maudlin of the Well - Rose Quartz Turning to Glass
  13. I think it's overrated garbage. Ridiculous plot and the whole thing felt like it was trying too hard. That said, you might like it. Also, Fate/stay Night gets better each episode. I stopped watching after the first 3 for some unknown reason, but now I've watched 10 or so episodes in the past couple of days. The characters in it are unbelievably good, and the fight scenes are beautifully done. There is nothing ugly about this series at all. /fanboy
  14. Kings of Convenience - Winning a Battle, Losing the War [yt]BCrnMCwSI6s[/yt] Truly a beautiful song.

    Today...

I'm not an electronic composer (I compose folk music/experimental music/progressive folk rock mainly), but I can tell this much: Practice. Practice and practice and practice until you get a real feel for what you're doing. Also, use the Internet to an advantage. If your husband is going to be creating electronic dance stuff, when he feels that he has made something that he believes other people would enjoy listening to, he should circulate it around the Internet. As for software to use and stuff, there's Cubase, FL Studio, and a few others I'm forgetting right now. As for today, well, the good ol' chronic depression hit again a couple of hours ago. I feel a little better now, but not much. Considering sleeping if I can. Otherwise, I'm just relaxing and listening to music.
  16. Older people are generally quite cautious and careful around technology; this applies to even the veteran computer users. Your parents (especially if your dad worked as a software engineer or whatever) have all the right to restrict your access on the computer. They're probably a little over-conscious about the dangers of technology, mind; which doesn't surprise me given how many reports about incidents related to or stemming from the Internet. If you're really dead-set on sorting this out, then just ask your parents if you can talk about your computer use. If they say no, too bad. If they agree to it, you can then sort out your issues with their current system between you.
  17. Wintersun is rather bad in my opinion. I really don't understand what everyone is so hyped up about. Their debut album was very inconsistent and felt half-done; I can't believe that some people call that "progressive metal". It's power metal, plain and simple. I have Shiina Ringo's new album to check out. I'll post here after I've listened to it a couple of times.
  18. My parents have never lectured me on any music I listen to; not even my J-pop and other Japanese music. It always bewilders me as to why parents do this, to be honest. I'm a composer also; and if my parents started lecturing me on my tastes in music, I would simply remind them that I like to draw influence from lots of different styles of music. As for live concerts: Absolutely nothing I'm interested in here. I have no money to travel, so I'm stuck with whomever is playing at the local university.
  19. Yeah, that's what I thought the cause of mine was. I was wrong. My doctor linked it down to my chronic depression issues and my bad eyesight. One of my eyes is significantly worse than the other one and that causes the majority of my headaches, because obviously the image from each eye looks drastically different. Getting my eyes checked (finally) this week though, so maybe I'll be able to understand what's up.
  20. ^ Good [cabbage]. maudlin of the Well - Interlude 3 Downloaded lossless versions of the reissues of Bath and Leaving Your Body Map yesterday. I can't believe I was listening to those 192kbps rips of them all the time. The difference is absolutely astounding. Now to see if I can find them on CD somewhere, which will be hard due to the fact that they're both out of print.
  21. It would help me immensely if I knew your tastes. So I ask: what sort of thing are you looking for? Some senseless violence, good interesting dialogue. A certain degree of graphic intensity and humor. Kind of like Melancholy but with people dieing. Come to think of it, Melancholy and FullMetal Alchemist along with some other shameful choices [which I wont mention] is all that I've watched in the anime spectrum. So I dont really, fully know. Outlandish plotlines and fantasy is a plus. But not too streched and inane that I can't follow. Thanks. I recommend Fate/stay Night. Very much so a fantasy/mythological anime with plenty of violence, but the fights aren't senseless. Also, Baccano! is definitely to your tastes.
  22. Yeah. I loved the ambience of Lain too. [hide=My interpretation of Lain]I feel as if Lain was much to do with the way technology is causing people to seperate from society - hence the split personality of Lain. It's as if being connected to the Wired had destroyed her completely - she became a God and ended up completely detatched from reality in her own delusional world. I felt the whole message of the series was something of a warning (as in 1998, computers were only just breaking into everyday household use) as to what the futures of technology held. As for your question: I don't think they are. They seemed so distant and plaintive (until her sister got stuck in between the Wired and human world) that I highly doubt that they were actually a real family. It has been a long while since I watched it though, so I can't really answer you for sure on that one. I'll rewatch it sometime soon and take your point into consideration whilst doing so.[/hide] Another thing I got from it was the "everything is relative" vibe. Everything was connected to something else.
  23. Harem anime is so bad most of the time. I would rather play the games or whatever they're based on. Been watching Fate/stay Night and all I can say is: ****ing AWESOME. I love fantasy stuff as a rule, but it's so great - way better than the game. The FSN game was pretty boring: it seemed as if the translators had a lot to prove by being overly verbose and throwing in out-of-character big words all the time. You should totally watch Monster. Yeah do this. (even though I haven't seen it yet) Also, Texhnolyze. Very much so. I'll watch both of those. Texhnolyze has the same artist that Lain did behind it. So does Haibane Renmei. Seriously, the guy is a genius at making emotional, thought-provoking art. It would help me immensely if I knew your tastes. So I ask: what sort of thing are you looking for?
