  1. ^ That picture just about summed up my rage when I was in my local guitar shop. Tried to sell me one of those damn things with my guitar I was buying. Also, revivng this for guitars, etc. My guitar, by the way: Mexican reissue Telecaster. Seemed to beat the crap out of all the other guitars in its price range. Although, after watching some videos on YouTube, I wish I'd saved up a bit more and bought a used G&L ASAT Classic. They seem to sound a lot more driving and forward (overwound, higher-volume pickups and such) - more the sort of sound I want, even if they are essentially Fenders. Had a few lessons recently and I've got barre chords and some other stuff down now. But do barre chords get less painful with practice? I have small hands, and I find anything below 5th fret almost excruciating.
  2. Yeah, I can laugh at things that would make most people puke. [bleep] you, Internet.
  3. Indeed. If you don't know your [cabbage] about music, take a hint and shut the [bleep] up. As for me, I never really got into that whole pop-punk phase that swallowed up all of my friends. Didn't really see the point in dressing like Billie Joe.
  4. The new Rin Toshi-te Shigure album, just A moment, is awesome. They're best described as raw indie rock/post-hardcore. [yt]tQHM2dTQX8E[/yt] It's up on Japshare if anyone wants to check it out. [edit] This [cabbage] is my album of the year, by the way.
  5. Because everything gets derailed in there, of course. There is no continuity between posts.

    Today...

Ah, the amount of times I woke up to the dreaded BSOD with my old computer. As for screencaps, is that even possible? Started on my Japanese learning today. Currently memorising kana; it's actually pretty interesting.
  7. Didn't know we had so many people who liked endless shounen here.
  8. It's slightly worrying when someone who's almost a full-grown man watches and enjoys a show that has a bunch of 11 and 12 year olds as the main characters.
  9. A dropout and NEET currently searching for a job. What with this recession and all, I'm finding it hard. Plus, I have my parents breathing down my neck.
  10. [yt]_XfJwh2cC6o[/yt] [yt]CxY0ALI7izo[/yt] For fun and games: [yt]Lzw7fvohQ-o[/yt] And because I can: [yt]gVz4M6nUSAw[/yt] Another one (no lolicon references, now. Posting this for the cute factor only): [yt]CuyuuneXlvM[/yt] Ichigo Mashimaro made me want to clean myself with bleach after watching it. I really do worry about myself sometimes.
  11. 7/10. They have some potential there, definitely. Why are all of you giving it like, 3 or 4? It's not that bad.
  12. That one was absolutely awesome, and so was the anime. Also Mushishi, been meaning to see that for ages.
  13. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Not read it yet, but it's said to be absolutely great if you want to relax.
  14. As a native speaker, I really don't know where you should start. However you should start memorizing your kana, and then reading children's books. Then when you get comfortable enough, expand your vocabulary and get a book on Kanji. There are several rules and tricks to them which are very convenient to use. Okay, thanks. I did something similar with French, and eventually German, but yeah, I was just wondering at how best to get down the fundamentals of the language. I get the feeling that it's gonna be like learning English again, but hey. I'll see how I go with it.
  15. Fort Minor 9,245,737 plays (397,274 listeners) (from Last.fm) I don't really think so. You want both underrated and underlistened? http://www.last.fm/music/Local+Bus and I believe this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time I've posted this band. You should all check them out. It's great stuff.
  16. Yeah it seems that most stereotypcial MMO-playing nerds do indeed love metal. (Specifically: power metal) However most of my metalhead friends IRL aren't MMO-playing nerds, so yeah. As for me, I didn't even know what metal was when I played RuneScape. I had quit RuneScape by the time I had gotten into metal anyway. About a year and a half ago, I was a HUGE metalhead; I started out with Iron Maiden, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian etc. and gradually got into black, death and finally progressive metal. However, about this time last year I heard Porcupine Tree for the first time and my interest in metal declined quite a lot. In October or November last year, I heard Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and that pretty much killed metal for me. In Janurary this year, I barely listened to any metal because I was exploring new music; nowadays though, I'll put on some Kamelot or In Flames now and again. I also had a period of exclusively J-pop and anime themes for a couple of weeks last year, on a completely unrelated note. It really does seem that people who love typically nerdy stuff love metal also. At least, that's my observation - but not all metalheads are nerds.
  17. Think I've seen you around there. As for me: currently browsing /mu/ as we speak. Gotta brush up on my knowledge of hip and cool bands yo.
  18. Minus the Bear - We are Not a Football Team
  19. I heard some of their new album and I was less than impressed, really. I'd heard a lot about Rise Against from various sources, and I went into their latest with pretty high expectations and I was let down quite a lot. I'll check out some of the albums that have been mentioned beforehand, though; as from what I've read, they were better received than Appeal to Reason.
  20. Na, screamo Which would be what most people consider emo. Most people means 99% of my school. well that's a stereotype. Most of my friends and I listen to that type of music and ALL of us are just about as far from emo as it gets. What is the different with post hardcore and screamo? Post-hardcore: Thursday, Dance Gavin Dance Screamo: Saetia, Raein, Envy Envy and DGD cross over between the two a lot, though. And I'm pretty much the same as Rahila. I like screamo/post-hardcore etc and I'm pretty far from being an emo or scene kid.
  21. Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash
  22. ;o I once had one where I must have been taking hostages or something. It was in some grey building in some dull-as-[bleep] area, and I must have been chased by the authorities because I was holed up on the top floor with some hostages. And then, as the authorities or whatever they were raided the building, I escaped to the roof and met... a helicopter. And then I shot myself, and woke up. [bleep]ed me up good for a few days, did that. [edit] Also, I suddenly remember killing someone completely in cold blood in that same dream. They had just gotten in my way, I think, and I shot them to pieces.
  23. Hartfield - Stand by Me Awesome Japanese shoegaze. Amazingly noisy and intense whilst at the same time retaining a dreamy, peaceful atmosphere.
  24. The Cosma Euphonium Concerto is one of the best pieces I've ever had the honour of playing, when I played euphonium. I switched to trombone though and played the Hindemith trombone sonata a lot, along with the staple Rimsky-Korsakov concerto. Alas, I got disheartened and gradually stopped when someone told me "you're pretty sh*t for a grade 8 trombone player". I don't listen to classical music much anymore. It was the soundtrack to my childhood, though. I was listening to Mozart and Beethoven around the age of 6 or 7, and suddenly added a lot more to my collection when I hit about 11/12. Stravinsky, Holst, Rachmaninov and Schoenberg were some favourites of mine; and I really enjoyed studying atonality and serialism for my music course because I got to listen to stuff I had already experienced. Also: I was 2nd trombone in both a small symphony orchestra and a brass band, and principal trombone in a concert band.
