Create & name a butterfly = $1 donation to the homeless

Damn, I don't know what my postcode is. Y'see, this is where ignorance of normal, everyday things bites you in the [wagon]. EDIT: Aha! I'm... not Australian. 3010 method works. -
Hmm didn't know that. :-k No, no! Don't trust me on that. I need to look it up. My imagination plays odd games with me sometimes. EDIT: Nevermind, got some confirmation below.

Oh come on. Accept the gesture as a sign of you not being universally hated, like you think you are. The very existence of any post trying to cheer you up right now should cheer you up more than the contents of the posts themselves.

Unknown virus? Really? I thought it was the common human papilloma virus? Last I heard he was going to get some gene therapy to make sure he has immune cells to fight it off, because currently he doesn't have them. Either that, or I dreamed the entire scenario up.

Why have we lost faith in humanity? Take a good look at it. A McDonalds in china is headline news, past generations have destroyed the earth for the future generations (ok not destroyed but pretty much ended our time), and we care more about sports teams and famous people than everyone else in the world, than anyone else. Take a good look around, it's quite obvious why we, why I have lost faith in humanity. I mean we live in a world where the latest flavour of beer from budweiser is more important than discovering the cure for cancer. Though at least we still do have some people who can logically think. Most people I meet are idiots. A good summation if I do say so myself. Don't think I could've put it any better myself. Don't forget that we're destructive in nature, and one day, we'll end up destroying everything, including ourselves. You guys seem to be smart. So think of yourselves as a reflection of what humanity could be. Why? Because yes, most of the species, by definition, is of average intelligence. When all you intelligent pessimists finally become leaders and start influencing masses of others, what principles would you want to spread? A lot is guided by the people up-top. Gotta have faith in the people, so they can take up your example and spark a little faith for themselves. Don't lose hope. Because humans have the potential for even more, and you can help achieve that.

Im pretty sure that "you" is me And now me. Pretty much everyone who reads this is automatically condemned to be awesome-less. A pit of doom, you might say. So, why exactly are you being so hard on yourself again?
-
Everyone here is awesome. Except you. :D

Why have so many of you lost faith in humanity? At some point, did you lose faith in yourselves? People have as much capacity to perform the admirable as they do to commit the terrible. If you keep faith in the collective goodwill of humanity, things will play out as they should. I mean, come on--we're a social animal. Biologically, we're built to be altruistic. Its all that thinking about certain historical screw-ups that keeps you guys depressed.

What determines right or wrong there? Those responses can be viewed as what you say they are in the short-term. But the long term? Scenario: "Come to think of it, you are indeed fat." Her response? "**** you!" Maybe she will cry at this point. Impossible to tell. In the months to come, she begins to run and workout, in an attempt to spite heartless bastards like me. In the end, she becomes a healthier person, with enough self-esteem to determine her level of 'fatness' without relying on anybody else. Scenario: "No. You're not fat. You're thin, and beautiful." Response? "Why thank you. I will now proceed to eat this entire chocolate cake." She will bask in the tide of flattery that you have just given her, and completely forget about the possibility that she is, indeed, fat. Even though the image in her mirror gives her doubts, she will be completely swayed by your lie. In the years to come, her heartstrings, which once fluttered so happily after a certain false compliment, will be coated with cholesterol and will cease to strum. Death will take this innocent girl. Sometimes, you have to be a cold bastard to get a proper outcome. Even though the scenarios I have presented are outrageous, it could happen. If you tell a lie only to make yourself feel good, you're being selfish. Sometimes you have to be the center of all hate in order to make another person better. You just cant tell with lies. Unpredictable material right there.

Instead of looking at the aesthetics of a six-pack, think of the awesomeness of mobility provided by your core muscles. This is what I do: A mix of leg-lifts, crunches (don't do sit-ups), the bicycle, and a bunch of variations of the plank. The plank is a great one, it gets you shaking and sweating like crazy. It gives you great balance and stability later on, as well. Always mix stuff up, or you'll end up hitting a plateau. With the plank, I improved times from 2 minutes to 7 minutes, but I hit a peak where I died if I tried any longer. Look up variations of different exercises so that this problem doesn't occur to you. I also believe that a 6-pack is dependent on organization of cartilage on your stomach. I have an eight-pack, but I think this is a genetic fluke, since I don't generate near as much power as some gymnasts I've seen without one. So don't look at the 'style' aspect of your abdominal muscles. Go with 'function'.

Fairy Tales - The Life in Them (Philosophical)
EdgedThesis replied to raven_gaurd0's topic in Off-Topic
Centaurs, Dwarves, Elves, and Magic? Nah. But what these characters represent and what they stand for in their stories is important. The actual existence of these fantastic creatures and universes is irrelevant, the morals and principles they are trying to get across are not. You speak of hope, wonder, and faith-- these things already exist. Its just easier to see in effect when a wounded Luke Skywalker uses emotion to save his father. Easier to see than, when, for example, a scientist constantly calculates and postulates until finding out some final, wonderful solution. -
She's still alive. Not determined enough to get it over with--and so there is a chance. You have been fueling her with positive feelings, since I'm sure you've been repeating how you care for her over and over again. I'm assuming that this is restoring her sense of purpose. Tell her that an international forum teeming with people of all ages heard a brief description of her, and is trying to rush to her aid. Tell her that anonymous people from anonymous locations have grown a collective, anonymous care for her, a care sprouting from your inexhaustible well of compassion for her. Tell her that she still has a reason to live.

Revolution First-person shooter/climber/fighter/sneaker aaaand flight sim. Mix of Chronicles of Rid[bleep] and Mirror's Edge. Game on a galactic scale, involving a rebellion vs. overarching government scenario. Shoot, punch, or break the necks of the enemy--climb sprawling cityscapes, and fly star-ships. Most of the time, these star-ships are stolen, and used to disrupt trade hubs in massive raids or to cut off supply lines in small scale space combat. Failure is met either with death or imprisonment. There will be several prisons and rehabilitation centers where you will get locked up. You will have to escape, of course. Planetary battles will vary from HUGE wars to tiny gunfights upon rooftops or in streets. Weapons, armor, and areas of expertise (unarmed, pistols, rifles, flight, etc.) are customizable.

These are the only contacts I will ever want. If it's even possible.

A METALocaust, yeah? Perhaps, a Metalfest? Even a... Metalocalypse?

By that logic, nothing exists. We might as well say houses don't exist either. Different kind of existence though. Houses have spatial existence, time is different. The laws of physics are certainly spatially determinant, but some think that quantum laws take their true form when expressed in timeless configuration states, where every single instant of "now" is expressed simultaneously. Essentially it's an empircal question. Of course we perceive the flow of time, but our intuition about the world doesn't correlate to its correctness. When/if the fundamental laws of physics are found, their dependence on time might help shed some light on its existence. Well, it may be that time is indeed just a whole dimension, where every now is taking place simultaneously--just like in our spatial dimension how multiple planes are existing simultaneously. It's just that we can only perceive certain portions at once, right? Like how a two dimensional creature only experiences certain planes at once, we can only move through time in frame-by-frame shots of the 3-D world around us. This topic is so interesting.

This has made me quite an outcast--But I completely lack a bellybutton. I suppose this has something to do with my artificial creation inside a tank of viscous nutrients, however. This would have probably made an umbilical cord useless. >.> Innie.

Owned. Though Chrono Trigger was cool (I only played up till a certain point though), Vincent is just ridiculous. I haven't played Final Fantasy, but from what I saw in Advent Children (I saw a blood-red nebulous shape, twisting, turning and jumping as the sounds of wind-blown leather formed a steady, almost musical rhythm of violence--It was as if bullets were flying out of a crimson cloud) Vincent is insane.

This is off topic, but woah, man... Does this site have warnings for epileptics? Your avatar is insane. In a good and bad way.

No sir. He is considered the last, yes. And so muslims look to his teachings, as they are the most comprehensive. But they scorn anybody who raises him above the other prophets. Muslims see all holy books as equally valid--but don't look at the current Bible and Torah because they have been tainted with human additions.

I like writing notes that make other people feel like crap. Of course, this is with the assumption that the anonymous person on the other end will realize that random notes from random people do not affect him at all. This, in theory, strengthens his resolve, and his sense of self-purpose. So far, all tests have gone against my hypotheses. Maybe I'll try your method and go easy on humanity. Entire post was a social experiment. Subject: Moral relativism and person-strengthening methodology. Awaiting results...

It's an Islamic sin to rank Muhammad above any other prophet--as they are all seen as equal.

Dude, where were you when we were discussing the nature of Time? In another thread, yeah, but still.
