2030- An astrobiologist team on mars discovers the fossilized remains of beings, with a skull-cavity to skeleton ratio much greater than humans. 2031-2033 - The 'Riots of the Devout' wrack all space agencies' facilities, requiring a merge with specialized branches of non-lethal military. 2035- Humanity unites under the shadow of the knowledge that they are not alone. Governments and space associations come together once every year to discuss planetary and extraplanetary policy. A universal monetary system is unfolded, requiring the use of electronically based funds. 2041- We come across the remnants of a machine factory on an iron-laden asteroid out near the termination shock. Discoveries from the site are shuttled back to Earth. 2049- The machinery arrives. Viable Artificial Intelligence systems are reverse engineered from these abandoned automatons. 2050- Humanity reaches the event horizon of a technological singularity. Machines learn to better themselves, creating a self-perpetuating cycle of discovery. Rest of the century- Immortality, Space Warp, Entropy Reversal, Machine Deification. ...I wish.

Right. I see. But can you be 'taught' to be brave? I had always thought you simply are. But this feeling of 'born-courage' may have just been from ancient childhood teachings that, while not consciously remembered, infused certain principles which influence everyday action.
-
You really think bravery comes down to genetics more than experience? In this context, it is nature VS nurture. Every personality trait has a physical basis. Something like bravery could come down to a chemical tendency to fight or fly. Yeah?

Who would you rather have sex with? A hero or a coward? An oversimplified answer to your oversimplified question.

The light that hits you and reflects onto the mirror does so in a straight line. Doesn't cross over to the other side of the mirror. So light reflecting the right side of your face will appear on the right side of the mirror. This gives a flipped image. You will raise your right hand, your mirror image will appear to raise 'his' left. That makes sense to me. *Shrug*

Is there anything that can't kill you?-No supercannons!
EdgedThesis replied to baalboy5's topic in Off-Topic
Anything with mass that approaches the speed of light can be divisible. The fact that it reaches such speeds gives it near infinite potential energy. Splitting the particle would emit this energy in some other form. But, I'm not comfortable saying that what I say is possible or impossible. Alright... So how about... Massless bosons? -
Roses are red. Violets are blue. All my base... Are belong to you. I didn't make this up. I don't know who did. It can be romantic... in the geekiest of ways. Imagine it in a really sincere tone. Imagine Chief from Arby and the Chief saying it, actually.

What long, convoluted chain reaction was devised that made it lethal? -

Anyone mention neutrinos yet? -
I'd grab some of that bite-proof shark chain-mail from the nearest Marine Biology center. Then I'd go on a Zombie Crusade, probably looking like an insane Don Quixote while I do. Would be fun. Except for all the death and destruction, of course.

Why'd you immediately associate what you were wearing with your sexuality?

This post, out of the entire bunch, struck me as oddest. Ramen? Ramen and jelly? Come on.

Or there's those friendly trees on the side of the road. 'Friendly' trees? You have no idea...

I don't know about that. Naive little kids are quick to trust and quick to try and help. They have the mentality of ">.< Must hlp peepulz nao!". Whereas with the onset of maturity, there comes farsightedness. We become less trusting, and more aware of the ripples that we make with our deeds. We think about the long-term effects of things. From my experiences, it seems that children focus more on direct consequences.

I would go with the 'sure, why not' response too. You can't speculate on these things based on how life is here (i.e, "not silver, because it's not in our diet"), because there is a ridiculous amount of evolutionary possibilities out there somewhere. You can't chart for all of the possible circulatory systems possible, or even if they utilize oxygen. Unless he was talking about life-forms specifically here on Earth, in which case, yeah--we need Warrior.

What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?
EdgedThesis replied to runescapeloser22's topic in Off-Topic
I went and got some last-generation games, games that I remembered were just great. Chronicles of Rid[bleep]: Escape from Butcher's Bay, Star Wars: Republic Commando, Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire. Some new games I got were Mirror's Edge and EndWar. All of them are brilliant. I need to get the Condemned games, damn. -
There's a certain singular sense to circles, more so than regular squares that look as if they are meant to be stacked amongst other squares, all depressingly the same. Squares conjure up images of the mundane, things built by humanity. A circle, an orb, brings to mind something a little bit more celestial. Anyway.

Ny Batteri-- by... 'Sigur Ros'? Sounds about right.

It would change your mind too. You'd be shot up with different hormones, and your behavior will be affected. Sure, you'll have all your memories of everything, but you'll suddenly feel different. People who take steroids get more aggressive. They don't change consciousnesses, but their mindset changes from that of a (wo)man to that of a supercharged man/woman combination. So I believe you would actually have a woman's mind for a while. Would be a learning experience.

Are kids becoming more intelligent with the times? Damn! I was under the impression that it was going in the opposite direction. Y'see, I peg child intelligence directly with the quality of shows on Cartoon Network. And CN sucks now. Maybe this method is the wrong way to go about it.

I say they go futuristic. I'd find it interesting to see how the entire army culture would change in the imagined future--would be awesome for CoD. Screw it, I'll just reveal my true motives--I want another Republic Commando game.

Kid: Squeaaaaaal! Assistant smiles. Kid: Screeeeeeeech! The smile seems to be more forced now, the teeth are grit. Kid: Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeam! Snap. And so we end up with a dead toddler. Perhaps the noise was a last straw? Sure, it doesn't warrant a murder, but kids can get annoying. And the injury was consistent with a two story fall? What? How did the kid grab a blanket and quietly die in a corner if he had such a severe skull fracture?
