  1. Once again, in case anyone still can't find it and hasn't checked Page 11, it's found at either http://88.80.13.160 or http://wikileaks.ch/
  2. Haven't seen this topic in a while. [hide=This would basically suck.] A physician we interviewed recounts the story of a laborer in Africa who worked around vats of sulfuric acid -- one of the most caustic forms of acid. The man fell in one day. He quickly leapt out, but was covered in sulfuric acid, which immediately began to burn him chemically. In a panic and excruciating pain, the man ran outside. By the time his coworkers caught up to him, the man had essentially dissolved. The acid burned the man to death, searing through skin, cauterizing blood vessels, and eating through organs until he died. The pain would be unbearable, and the circumstances irreversible. This is unquestionably a really bad way to die. http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/death-dying/worst-way-to-die.htm [/hide]
  3. Things I would attempt to do (not in order, and assuming this disaster is unavoidable): - Get in a fight with two or more guys and win - Drink untli I pass out - Try a large variety of illegal substances - Have sex many, many times - Set things on fire - Steal a really nice car - Kill myself the moment before everyone is going to die -- I don't want to see it happen, and if I have to go through some disaster, I'd rather it be by my own hand.
  4. See, the only actual reason to live is to improve humanity. Without death, there would be (from an evolutionary standpoint) no improvements in genetics. If creatures never died, the best traits would never be honed and widely spread, and better traits (via genetic mutation) would not come into existence. Once the new, superior model is out, it's necessary to get rid of the inferior model. That said, my reason for living is to create an army of my clones.
  5. I learned that Weeds is hilarious.
  6. Which is a kind of greed. Greed is want, and you *want* to be recognised. Greed is greed. I'm glad we've worked this out.
  7. We are not doing good or bad. We are just doing, and our minds can perceive that in whichever way it wants to. If you and I see a tree and you call it beautiful and I call it ugly then what is the tree? It is neither beautiful or ugly, the tree itself is just a tree no matter what the label. I can label the tree a pig, it doesn't matter. It is what it is and nothing more or less. And yes this thirst for something that ultimately is false may lead to humans to become extinct, or it might not. But I can not say if this is a good or a bad thing. Maybe nature has extinction instead of existence in store for humans. So be it. What do you mean by the bolded statement? What's ultimately false? Also, I might add, eventually all things must come to an end; it's just a matter of how long we can last. Our desire to exponentially consume while putting little to no value on the environment. It's not as if we're just rushing through everything. When we cut down trees, we re-seed the area. We have safe and environmentally-friendly (nuclear) power available. We breed animals for food and clothing instead of hunting them down in the forests (though some like to do that, but the amount they can kill is restricted so that the animals say thriving). My point being, whatever we consume we try to bring back.

  9. I'm hoping to receive a PCI wireless card for my desktop, a new iPod Touch 4g to replace my current (broken) iPod Touch 1g, and otherwise I have no idea. Possibly a soldering kit, because I've wanted to get into building gadgets (like building my own mouse or something). I'm getting my brother Dead Space (the first one, because he wants to play it through before he gets the second one). For my other brother, I'm getting Thus Spoke Zarathustra because he hates Nietsche. :D My brothers and I are pooling money to get my sister a new phone, also.
  10. I want whatever job opening there will be after Hugh Hefner dies. If that doesn't work out for me, I'll probably be an engineer or a doctor.
  11. For some reason, I can't access Wikileaks anymore -- I can Google Cache it, but that's about it. My Internet works fine otherwise, and nothing's stopping me. I've tried it from several different browers and two different Internet connections (mine and my friend's). Anyone else getting this issue? Edit: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/software/wikileaks-web-address-is-shut-down-50001871/ If you want to get to Wikileaks, go to http://88.80.13.160
  12. By that logic, breathing air is greed, because you don't need to breathe air to live. Your life would be a lot shorter if you didn't, though. We don't need to live, but we still do. There is no logic behind it, it just is. Greed only arises from human thought. Which is nothing but just thought. Are you kidding me? The logic is that we can accomplish more (in evolution's eyes, probably reproducing more) by breathing and living longer. Greed arises from human thought, so therefor it's not concrete? Greed is a concrete thing. It can be easily defined, observed, and isolated. (Also, thought is a mechanism to process, analyze, and plan for the future, so I'm sure thought is worth something.) Accomplish more? For what? Just because something is concrete it doesn't make it true. Human thought is nothing but thought. Thought is not concrete. So something arising from thought is just as good as thought, which is really just nothing. Thought is concrete because it is physical. (Did you think it was caused by some psychic force?) And stop moving away from the actual topic. We aren't discussing whether or not thought is physical, or whether or not greed is concrete, or whether success is necessary. We're discussing whether or not humans are doing good or bad things to nature, and whether or not our thirst for success will eventually lead to our downfall.

Here's a shocker: something that has no logical explanation cannot exist.
  14. Success is just an idea, it is not needed. What greed does is create the need for success, but really there is no need. By that logic, breathing air is greed, because you don't need to breathe air to live. Your life would be a lot shorter if you didn't, though. I disagree. I think we're going to die off before we can expand past our solar system, but not before you we colonize another planet. There aren't a whole lot of major conflicts going on between the superpowers at the moment, and space colonization isn't that far away. The Russians are going to Mars, and the Chinese are making plans to colonize the moon.
  15. A system of finite resources cannot systain indefinite expansion. Sooner or later we are going to screw ourselves over beyond repair. Sure, humanity will persist regardless, but will it be a life worth living? A select greedy few will have complete control over any means of survival, most people will be born into danger and starvation. Society has taught us to be this way. We still have not let go of our primal urges and we're just blank slates as children. I didn't say progression was a bad thing, but economic growth can hardly be considered progression. If anything it holds back true progression. Greed is exactly like religion, it played a huge role in our rise to the top, but it is not necessary anymore (doing more harm than good). Is it really greed to try and create a better situation for one's self than available? It sounds like you're saying that the only way to not be "greedy" is to suck it up and have an unchanging world. Nobody likes to settle for something that could be improved. Competition and progression are what allows success, and if we can progress farther and compete better against nearly every organism on the planet (barring survival conditions such as the sun going out, which we would almost definitely not survive), then that success is justified. I'm not saying that humans have some god-given right to rule over nature, but merely that our superior design brings success naturally. I'm not saying that nature should be wiped out because everything else is inferior, but that expansion is okay. You also seem to be forgetting about all of the efforts to save nature. Not all human beings are merciless destruction-machines, but for some reason that's all you're focusing your argument on. Even so, expansion is justified. In this world, it's eat or be eaten, and we're simply making goddamn sure that we won't be eaten.
  16. I hate the establishment as much as the next guy, but I can't recall the US shutting down any media outlets. Why would they? The U.S. media might as well be state-run media. They never report, they just repeat what the government says, uncritically passing on one government claim after the next -- without any contradiction, challenge, or scrutiny. When the NY Times is the best major newspaper, it says something awful about the state of print journalism in the U.S. Let's not even bother with cable news with people like Wolf Blitzer. Also, lol: [hide] [/hide] Ha, true. To find out about what bad things my country has done I actually have to read British newspapers.
  17. I find it interesting that you consider everything natural besides humans. Plants are organisms, if you didn't know, and so are non-human animals. We're simply an animal that developed something that literally no other creature (to our knowledge) has yet to develop: an extreme intellect. This has allowed us to perceive different senses of time, and by planning ahead, create tools, create complicated shelters, and attempt to understand the world around us. Science has progressed us further because, by natural selection, with intelligence, we deserve to conquer. Humans are a natural part of this world, but we're certainly leaving our industrial mark. I find the idea of "us against everything else", with humans represented as evil, to be nothing short of pretentious. Also, we obviously aren't glass cannons if we've thrived this much. Sure, if you pit one human (without tools) against a bear, the bear will most likely win. You're not thinking of human strengths: tools, the ability to work very well in groups, excellent communication, and the intelligence to run from any dangerous situation in which you cannot win and benefit little from. Our bodies may seem weak when compared to much larger creatures, but we make up for that. When was the last time you saw a bear protect itself with a suit of armor, or construct a barricade (bear-icade)? We are also smart enough to fight at range, and keep ourselves out of harm's way. What other creature can kill you before you get within a thousand yards of it?
  18. Thanks. It'll also explain the weird stretch marks I have on my shoulders/arms.
  19. How? 1.Fill bath tub with water 2.Fill bowl with cereal 3.Get in tub 4.?????? 5.Get clean and not hungry at the same time. Not quite... 1. Get out of bed 2. Fill bath tub with water 3. Run downstairs and prepare breakfast 4. Run upstairs and turn water off 5. Place plate/bowl and glass on window ledge whilst I get naked :P 6. Stand in bath 7. Reach plate/bowl and glass 8. Place glass at the sid of the bath 9. Sit in bath with the plate/bowl balancing on the bath handle or one my chest 10. Place plate/bowl on floor and reach for glass 11. Place glass on plate/bowl 12. Use the bath for what its meant to be for...to wash Um, no. 1) Fill tub with cereal. 2) Poor milk on cereal. 3) Eat cereal with spoon. 4) If necessary, bathe in milk. Cold baths are never fun. 1.) Find water tank 2.) Replace with cow 3.) Hook up to milking machine 4.) Hook up to pipe system 5.) Roll in glue, stick cereal to self 6.) Turn on shower 7.) Profit.
  20. I'm pretty sure I (and my brother) have a zinc deficiency. First, we both have a distorted sense of taste -- that is to say, the vast majority of foods taste disgusting to us. (I still eat normal foods, but my brother is very weak and shorter than me by about three inches due to his terrible diet. He eats food, but basically just junk food with lots of preservatives: chips, soda, chocolate stuff, and pizza.) My brother also has an abnormal rate of growth on one side of his chest -- the right side of his chest is growing slower than the left side, thus leaving it disproportional. I have permanent "tired lines" (dark, dark circles) under my eyes, that I've had since I was a baby (zinc deficiency can very easily start at six months or less, due to the quality of some baby foods, and can persist later on in life due to improper diet). So I'm going to take zinc supplements and see what happens. Who knows, maybe for some reason most foods won't taste nasty anymore. :D And maybe the dark circles under my eyes will go away, too (very hopefully). If that doesn't show any promising results within a month of taking them daily, I'll see a doctor and present my case. :|
  21. gee dont we have the right to government documents as citizens? He is just leaking documents before the government "loses them" or blacks out all relevant information. But yeah he will probably get life sentence or executed ~ in either case im sure it wont be a regular prison and no one will ever hear of him again I severely doubt he'll be executed, but certainly given some sort of sentence. Possibly treason, or stealing, or some such thing as a crime, but as to his sentence I have no clue.
  22. First of all, why the hell are our documents unsecured? Second, what is this Wikileaks person's problem?

I apparently dislike dubstep. Haters gon' hate, I presume.
  24. I saw the new Harry Potter movie two nights ago -- I'd give it an overall "meh". Not much went forward in the plot.
