    Today...

Merry Christmas guys. Currently at the boyfriends parents for the next few days. Its mental with kids running around screaming and slamming doors. You quickly start to miss the peace of home.
  3. My problem with debating feminism on the internet is how easy it is to get emotionally drawn into the debate. The more you have to defend your gender the more it makes you sound like a crazy feminist. I just cant believe that men are the 'oppressed' gender because there are a few careers where women are the majority. I don't think in those areas, men are actually discriminated against like women are.
  4. Yeah, I don't think 'most' domestic violence is done by women... Some happens and it is horribly underreported, but so is rape and sexual violence against women. I just think that the idea of men being the truly repressed gender is ridiculous.
  5. I am highly confused... Not sure if trolling or if just watching anime in a weird order...
  6. so I've finally finished 1Q84, a long slog of a book since its essentially a collection of 3 novels. I think it is best to read it consecutively. I found it exciting at times, a bit dull in others and very repetitive. I know its supposed to be a bit meta but the ending was seriously boring. The climax was probably in the middle and the aftermath of that, which takes up a book and a half, is nowhere near entertaining enough. I liked the characters at least and it wasn't a bad book but the ending let me down.
  7. I was going to make a normal post but this thread has taken a turn for the interesting. I don't think its really fair for women to be told, through what is shown on TV and the regulation behind it, that their bodies are shameful and shouldn't be shown. There are lots of mixed messages. I wouldn't condone porn on primetime tv slots but after the watershed, more mature content - be it of a sexual or violent nature, is something we should have. Violence is not 'better' than sex and there is nothing unnatural about the human body so that it needs to be covered up, while its okay for horrific violence to be shown. Its all about approaching mature topics with the maturity they should be treated with.
  8. Funny you say Sakurasou is one of your faves atm, I dropped it. It was funny enough but it didn't particularly jump out at me as something to keep with.
  9. Been watching Btooom! It's decent enough, only 3 episodes left though and I've no idea how they're going to end the plot given there's still a load of people on the island. I'm guessing second season Spring or Summer next year if it's been doing well in Japan.
  10. I'm not particularly good at it either. It's been a long time since I played AoE 2 and I was never very good in the first place :P Been playing Defence Grid, quite a lot of fun for £1.70-something. Very polished tower defence game.
  11. Incredible bundle :P Not one you can pass up. I hope that there's other bundles like this in the future :D
  12. So I was raped by the steam sales... or did I rape them? Either way I bought: Age of Empires 3 Terraria Turba Mass Effect Mass Effect 2 Defence Grid: The Awakening Quantum Conundrum So, bearing this in mind, I've started playing Dota 2... y'know... that *free* game. :wall:

Funny you guys talking about shortcuts. Since I started work I've learned quite a few, like Win+E, Win+D, Win+R... they're very useful for navigating user's PCs on slow connections :P Also spent about £30 in the Steam sales. I didn't even know there were going to be any. I feel abused :(
  14. Finished the casual vacancy. I liked it a lot, solid novel with good characters. The fact it came from JK Rowling doesn't really matter since its worlds apart from HP. Starting on 1Q84, recommended by goodreads. Its a translated Japanese novel. Seems good so far a few chapters in. Having knowledge of Japanese culture means that its easier to immerse myself than when I read the Millennium series which had the slight problem of being jarring at times with references I don't get.

I very much fancy trying that out this weekend :)
  16. I was being lazy but I've finally caught up with Medaka Box Abnormal and I'm pretty pleased I didn't let it just fall by the wayside because it's been quite enjoyable so far. I miss Kokoro Connect Sundays :(

The only thing I take from your post is that apparently 5"11 is short for a guy? I know it's not tall but it's above average over here... Anywho, to be on topic, went to Nandos today with Dave, was nice. I went with some work colleagues last week for the first time and actually enjoyed it, I had plain chicken though since I don't like spicy food. Glad there's a restaurant we both like since I'm an insanely fussy eater! :P
  18. chuunibyou for anime of the year? Yes or yes? :twss:
  19. just finished Stephen Fry's Moab is my washpot. Now reading The Casual Vacancy and enjoying it so far.

I think you need something better than lesbians to weird her out. Like ItsASpork said, Offended is a good one. Eww.
  21. Unless its on iPlayer, which we have on the TV, or Sherlock - pretty much the only show I watch when airing, its downloaded from the internets onto our Media server. Then its streamed to the TV using our HTPC connected to the TV downstairs. We generally watch an episode of something with dinner in the evening then a movie or two on the weekend. Anime and movies we get in 720p unless its a fave and we get it in 1080p. TV is HD sometimes but not always, doesn't matter as much. Our lives don't revolve around the TV, we pick what we watch when we want.
  22. Ep 2 spoilers: [hide]My favourite bit was when Lori, all pregnant, gave mouth to mouth with a potential zombie. Dumb [bleep] >.< I love Hershel and all but she really was dumb...[/hide]
  23. After a very buggy, though mainly graphical issues, 38 hours and one restart, I finished a whole game. Only normal non-ironman, restarting when things went to shit. I'm trying non-ironman classic now. My boyfriend just laughed at me when I said I was gonna try at that difficulty. Love the game, though it feels bad starting off new when you're used to a team of colonels completely pimped up :P
  24. so I just dumped the first book in the non-canon Foundation 2 series, not written by Isaac Asimov. It was god awful, horrible, horribly written. Poor plot and the characters were entirely different from canon. Can't believe I wasted so much time on it waiting for it to get good. taking a break from sci fi now, reading Moab is my Washpot.
