The Running Thread
I know exactly what you're talking about! I find that my attitude, and energy in a warm-up is almost always a perfect indicator for how the run itself will go: take your time, be relaxed but focused, and really think about what you're going to do in warm up. Play around, and jog around in your warm-up and loosen up. obviously, the technique of the running itself has to be unrestrained and smooth in the same way your warm-up has progressed. A changed warm-up routine cut 15 seconds off my mile-time in the course of a weekend. Again, for the sprinting: remember to warm up your whole body before start: free-style swimming in the air with your arms, loosening up, twisting your torso etc. should take care of minor issues like that. if it does not, some core excercise might be the next step to go.

Diets
It's really not hard, people are just very lazy. It takes 10 mins for the oven to pre-heat for making frozen pizza. It takes me 12-13 mins to make a pizza from scratch. realistically, i don't do anything when the oven preheats that's of any real use to anyone. That means i loose another 3 minutes off of making the pizza. of course other time comes in addition, but the reality of the matter is that there's no way i'd be training with the athletes i do without propper food. you can't buy propper food unless you're willing to throw money left, right and center. I can see how less experience may be an obstacle to overcome starting out, but i'm 18. I play in an orchestra, practice the cello, do honours classes, and homework, play tennis 5-6 times a week, and go to at least one party every weekend. It's not an issue of time, it's an issue of slight priority. you could even cut down forum / runescape / online time by less than 30 mins a day and make all your food. It is EASY. Planning a tad in your life so you don't need to go shopping every single day for food also saves you time in the long run as opposed to going to cafeterias / fast food places that also have travel time. I can see being really lazy as a reason why no to make your own food, and that's fine too. proxy-arguments aren't as cool :D

Bigotry
universialism is a widespread view. people won't admit to bigotry, cause it sounds bad, and the negative connotations are obvious. Many of strong faith are universialist though, an authorotative truth is true for everyone. Implication: all others are wrong.

My issues with the United States
No one is interested in education these days? Ah, so that explains why more and more people are going to college then. Rather, well-roundedness has been exchanged for specialization, and information resources and experts have replaced knowing and doing things yourself: if you need food, go to a restaurant. if you need to fix a heater, go to a repairman. if you need to use statistics in science, hire a statistician. if you need to switch the lightbulb of your car, go to the officially licensed garage. if you need to vote, just leave the policy up to the politicians the premature specialization of adults is a loss for society, as well-roundedness and general knowledge leads to more rapid development in all areas concerned: your level of understanding is deepend. In that spirit, i choose to get away from the univerities of my own country, that has no general education, but only professional studies. I want my general education, my 3rd language education, my in-depth global history, geography and politics courses because they allow me to live a more balanced, thoughtful and academic life. Presumptiuous? yes, but there lies a "nugget of truth within my lies" ( quoted from A room of one's own by virgina Woolf" because litterature and culture are essential for our social understanding and maturity as well. I want to learn what i'm interested in, but i recognize that time and effort spent learning and understanding other facets of life is also important. It's not random what you learn in school.

08-Mar-2010 - Armies of Gielinor Story Competition & New Items in the Jagex Store
:) I'd love to enter the story competition but I don't know anything about Armies of Gielinor >_< I might have to find a summary of the plot or something.. I'm more into the tactical aspect: I have a choice, what is most strategic? Either way, how they're going to treat stories in different languages equally is easily a determining factor for me if i am to write in norwegian, english or german :P also the technicalities: who will (presumably) translate the winning entry if it is in portugese, so other players can relish in teh winning stories as well?

Weightloss/ Muscle Gain Naturally?
sure! the simple solutions are often the best and most satisfying: bring a packed "lunch" so you can eat when you're hungry. yes it takes a little bit of time and planning, but food you make yourself is guaranteed healthy: you made it that way. of course the "traditional" advice of many small meals instead of a few huge ones still applies. If you have little experience cooking from scratch yourself, get a cook book for beginners. A lot of people work out for the girls / body. Being a proficient cook is also very practical (and cheap) for later in life :)

Diets
the only difference between whole milk, and skimmed milk is milk fat... these types of citations (the citrus fruits being healthier than other fruits etc) have no scientific basis. A varied diet does though, as there are so many active components we have no idea what do. This type of advice, without evidence, can easily be dangerous. It is even more likely incorrect, based on fads, trends and people's "logic" employed on these concepts: "citrus fruits have more antioxidants ergo they are healthier". There is no evidence of such a claim, and no biochemical reason why it should be that way. dietary advice: eat varied. your plate should have at least 2/3 veggies. skip everything you know is unhealthy (coke, chips, soda, hot dogs, fast food, prefabricated stuff, candy, etc. there are no shortcuts to a healthy diet. only hard work (in preparing meals from scratch to avoid additives with unkown long-term effects, lower saline content, hardened fats and added suggars etc. ditch american-style cereals, they are basically candy /cake in a different wrapper. good old home-made food from scratch is where it's at, and that's what almost all professional athletes worldwide rely on. only in competition do they use sportsdrinks etc. That atleast goes for those wanting good health at old age as well. it's not that hard, but requires self-determination: every meal is its own thing.

Weightloss/ Muscle Gain Naturally?
I'm sorry but this is complete rubbish. There is no evidence to hold up the theory that just because you consume carbohydrates after x time, you are more likely to store away fat than at any other time of the day. The rate of digestion in your intestines is just the same at night as it is in the early hours of the day, so it makes no difference when you decide to eat your carbohydrates. If you don't eat carbohydrates, then your body will be losing the fuel it needs to function, and instead of losing actual body fat, you will be losing water instead, as carbs help store water in the body. Also, the lack of carbohydrates will cause for your metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn calories) to slow down, meaning you won't burn as many calories as you normally will. Also, you will be missing out on vital nutrients that your body needs to function, and so may experience dizziness, exhaustion and heart palpitations. I'm not talking about a fancy theory. I'm talking about eating less: you can go perfectly fine without food after 5pm every day. eating too much is the main dietary problem of more than four fifths of westeners who have issues of diet.

08-Mar-2010 - Armies of Gielinor Story Competition & New Items in the Jagex Store
So for the story contest, what we actually write about, doesn't have to do anything with the two campaigns? Has anyone played them, or know where i can find a summary of events? 400 words is an interesting limit though, especially considering the fact that they are going to attempt literary analysis to find good stories. If the plot /story we're supposed to make fanfiction about lends itself to creativity, i might write something. another obvious question is what language we should choose to write in: English, or other languages? I'd be much surprised if they published a story in swedish or norwegian as the winner, as the languages are so small. Have they even thought this through?

Tip.it Times March 7 2010
It's not that simple. The rules state that you can not report someone for 'game related spam'. So if I say "b sale" 50 times per minute, you are not 'allowed' to report me. As for them being acceptable, The rule is not having ANY third party software that directly acts on the game. I would say that a program that types for you works on the game. Why would it be acceptable that someone is too lazy to play the game them selves to choose to cheat? then i disagree with the rules. It makes no difference to me if you use a "spoken word to text" program to post on the tip.it forums, or chat ingame: it's none of my business and doesn't make a difference to me.

auto-typing: mute because of spam, not because they use an auto-typer. auto-typers are immaterial, and are perfectly acceptable if you are not spamming.

Song of the Decade
Many of these songs have added little to nothing to music as a whole the last decade. There are some Artists I will argue have obviously given so much to the last decade, their songs cannot be ignored: outkast, eminem, coldplay, radiohead, U2, system of a down, red hot chili peppers, green day, jay z, gorillaz, foo fighters, beyonce, linkin park, muse, blink 182, dream theater, the killers, rihanna, 50 cent, tiesto and franz ferdinand (in no particular order) have arguably dominated the 2000s. Without them, the decade would be completely different. personally, songs like Urban train, in my memory, lethal industry and Adagio for Strings by Tiesto have rendered him such a dominating player in electronic music, his work as an artist the last decade cannot be underestimated in terms of how DJ's dominate mainstream music today (just think of all hip hop).

My issues with the United States
My primary concern with the American society is a key facet of morality: the right to do whatever you like, barring all moral concerns that may sound inconcievable, and limiting to many; it requires an explanation: 1. The right to pollute is a basic american right. 2. the right to starve is a basic american right. 3. the right to selfishness is an american right. 4. The right to bear arms is an american right. 5. The right to be sentenced to death the list goes on, yet the implications are profound: Many americans see taxating as the government stealing their money, not recognizes the services taxation gives them. Many americans act selfishly based on their right to help themselves, and no others. That is true for all countries, but politicians get elected for protecting the right to selfishness. Many americans see their right to let others perish without intervention. Illegal immigrants, the weak, the elderly, the sick: the " life, libety and the pursuit of happiness" is one of circumstance, not of equal opportunity. Many americans see the right for corporations to finance and lobby the political system to such a degree that the people's representatives do not act on behalf of the people. Many americans see their right to spend money today, leaving future generations to pay the deficit of excess. Many americans see their right for social inequality to subsist, money talks. Thus the american economy is based on consumption that is not sustainable, and policy does not secure its population basic human rights. of course, the majority of countries fare far worse, but the influence of the Americans gobally, and the lack of recognition that their morality, and system upholding this morality is destructive. we have to recognize the failures of our countries, but also celebrate the successes that different systems produce. Personally, I don't like the lack of social concern in the American system, each to their own, leave the rest to rot. I do like very many other facets of american society though.

Hey TIF, Help Me Reach my Ultimate Goal
Gym membership. With one you will see results a million times faster (if you even see any with working out at home). Why don't you want to get one? Nervous? reasons for not going to a gym: - travel time - unneccessary, effective exercises exist for everything to be done at home - significant others will see you work out, thus you cannot skip it - more sets can be done each day, as breaks can be used for other things around the house - no excuse "not to go" working out at home takes 40 mins for 40 mins of workout. There is no pressure to "look good" in the gym, you compete against yourself. - cheaper it's up to personal preference though. i know i work out a lot more after investing the money i would be spending for gym membership on my own exercising equipment. each to their own.

POLL: What is your opinion on the recent Hitpoints/Constitution update?
Taking the stats off the Fighter Torso to only put them back hours later after whingers got up in arms and threatened to quit. And you can probably count Ice Strykewyrms too as so many people whinged about the fire cape requirement so they added in 2K points cost to get them assigned. Fighter's torsto was arguably obsolete without a str bonus, it was almost identical to all other "junk rune" armours. I don't think that has much to do wtih complaints, just not realizing. Ice strykewyrms: again i don't think Jagex realized how few staffs would come into circulation, as many high level slayers do not have fire capes. High slayer is actually quite a good descriptor for high level players without fire capes in my experience. I agree the ice wyrms were a little dubious, I don't think you need to buy the 2k to get them as a task unless you don't have a fire cape.

indeed it does! Anyone have any pics saved? (also, with modern technology, the cam could record actual video, and not take pics like every 20 seconds!)

The Running Thread
It's all about the fun though. Running isn't bad, but tennis has so many more enticing dimensions of strategy and mental capacity. Coupled with the fact that I do play tennis on a national level, it basically means everyone needs intense conditioning training to be able to compete. Times are the only real way of quantifying progress, as every match is different. How did your track meet go?

Lower Back
I'm a fan of the "back-up" it's a sit-up, but you lie on your stomach lifting your upper body off the ground. Along with diagonal back-ups you strengthen basically every muscle in your core, primarily the back.

How should i use my charms on the "bonus exp weekend"?
see what secondary ingredients you can actually get. Almost everything is unbuyable on the ge, so you are probably going to have to do it yourself. That being said, find the ingredients you can stock up, for making either blue or crimson pouches. Maximise your xp by using blue charms first, if you can get secondaries for those.

Tip.it Times March 1 2010
there's a relatively large editorial staff. I've tried sending in articles to the tip.it times. i miss it when there were many articles, and so i figured i could at least try to contribute. It's very depressing not even to get a reply, however i can understand that. We're talking about people spending their free time here, getting little in return but criticism, little discussion on the topics they wish put in focus etc. The one thing i do struggle with understanding is the lack of a discussion topic for "articles you feel should be written" Often the hardest thing for a columnist is finding something that people want to hear their analysis and point of view on. Simple suggestions like that is something the community woudl get so much in return for having.

Should Tip.it limit/censor what people can say?
the clan community has never relied on tip.it it's always been centered around runescape community. That battle was lost before it began. there has been no golden era in runescape. There has been a golden era of tip.it, which is what i claimed. I don't think you're the one to decide anyway, this happens to be a discussion under the "feedback" part of the tip.it forums. sadly, with these new boards, nothing older than 2006 exists in the general discussions board. Otherwise, i'd tell you to read the forums of the past. why aren't the tip.it forums as successful as it was in the past, today then? If you can't provide an alternative explanation, i suggest you re-examine my theory. please get some facts from the past if you wish to argue further.

Olympics
I think it's more of the athletes smoking a cigar. it's like handball: if the biggest stars didn't smoke, they'd be so much better.
