rather, what kind of system can you show in the electro-neural impulses of the brain? I don't know of any research that has identified the working mechanics, and I've looked all right. Few have defined what a "soul" is, in modern terms, as you always have to deal with the reality of science, and future research. I don't see why religious people couldn't define the characteristics, mechanics and complexity of the human mind (as neccessitated by conception) as a "soul". I can't think of places where it contradicts with any major religions either...

They guarantee "regular updates" nothing more. Yes it'd be smart, but people often vote with their feet, not their forum posts. Jagex may have statistics (well they have statistics, but we don't know what ones), that render a lot of forum feedback obsolete. Those who pay for members are also (at least those i speak with) members for long periods of time. Once you go pvp, few go back and remain playing the game actively. I think we really agree though, so meh, might just be bellyaching.

Gerudo Valley, ocarina of time. 8 bit sound reaches its best potential. Jagex can only envy this type of quality even though they produce their music more than a decade later. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLanWagsaM8 The whole soundtrack to AOE II is 30:16 long, conquerors is 30:50 long. if you have the CD's from your old playing, simply add the folders to your itunes, and you find the tracks. best minute i ever spent searching the web tbh! :P

What animal your own weight can you beat in barehand combat
tortilliachp replied to das's topic in Off-Topic
well, i could do a half-marathon in about 1h 27 mins, so i'd say i actually stood a pretty good chance in warm weather... At that point I think mental determination, and the animal's fatigue would kick in, and i'd be at an advantage. when trying to save your life, i think that'd be a pretty good bet if you're in shape -
sugarfree gum is a cheap solution. Ending meals in a fruit, avoiding garlic are also good for me at least.

You're now chatting with a random stranger. Say hi! You: predovjev! Your conversational partner has disconnected. inventing new words: see what reactions that spurs, sounds like fun!

What animal your own weight can you beat in barehand combat
tortilliachp replied to das's topic in Off-Topic
Are you kidding? I can't think of any wild animal that I can outrun without the use of some sort of trapping device. As for myself, maybe something very slow like a turtle I could handle. I, and the peopls of 2 million years ago who survived and prospered, disagree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistence_hunting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursorial_hunting Wikipedia is no tth ebest source, but it's a general overview on how humans could hunt without the stone tools and technology that this topic suggests we don't have. Basically, in every situation where "we kill the exhaused animal with a spear" we could continue the hunt a little longer, and kill the creature with bear hands, because it's that exhaused. -
That's so long in the future they don't have to try exploring other technology. Rather, they oil-lobby to ensure no no technology emerges in the next 50 years, when there's still guaranteed more oil. who knows what happens after that, as it all depends on how population growth continues, and consumption / fuel efficiency rates.

Uhhh, you don't need to do cardio before a work out to avoid injury. Ramping is a great warm up Most people would agree that 3 sets are better than 4 or more, but I guess that can change depending on what you're trying to do. That's three sets with the same weight too (your working weight) Since most people don't know much about muscle groups and which exercise works which groups, get a routine instead of trying to figure it out yourself. And IIRC (might want to check), but high reps = build more mass, low reps + more weight = build strength. Generally speaking. Gym is better than no gym. Gym is better than no gym. Gym is better than no gym. Gym is better than no gym. Gradually higher pulse is basically the only way to warm up most muscles unilaterally. You also get more out of the actual weight lifting, as circulation is higher, and per kilo you lift (your max strength isn't lowered much by working out if you're in reasonable shape) you get both larger weight increase, and larger strength increase. My tennis coach always claims 80% of those that try anything but cardio for warming up don't start slow enough, and he's a national junior coach, so he should know, but might be exadurating due to the beneficial effect it has on your strength later. 4 sets for building maximum strength AND muscle mass at the same time. With more reps, you'll have to do less weight so you stimulate either or, not both. With 4 sets at working weight you get the best compromise of mass and strength. That may be healthier, and it seems a lot more impressive cause you're strong, not just big, but strong for your size whatever it is. (also more efficient if you perform any sport). yes, getting help is really good. It's just a ton easier to work out every day when you know how you can use your own weight and a corridor to perform all your activities. Cuts down on transport times, and leaves you no excuse not to work out.

I was agreeing with you up to this point, then I shook my head. Paying customers do not bow down and act grateful for the privilege of giving them money to play the game no matter what. If members aren't happy and get tired of it, then they stop being members. you pay for a service, you get what you pay for. I shake my head right back at you, paying customers in no company directly decide what company strategy is. That is a privalige reserved for shareholders. Paying customers, be they happy that something is on sale, or that their favorite shoe now comes in their favorite color, whatever, they have no influence on the company, and can only be happy that the company has chosen to do something they like. Maybe humble the right word or phrase. *plays English is my second language card* Jagex may refuse the right, as any other establisment, to serve any customer for any reason, that is their right. Jagex develops the game, not you, they choose and decide, you recieve new content and play. heck, they could stop giving out new content and demand the same membership price for membership features if they like, not that they should, will, or it is morally acceptable - they could and you could do NOTHING about it.

I think most (read: all) of you are talking about the wrong type of bass if you want to find the most epic player: . This is just a random bass-player, but he has all those others beat by a LONG mile. another random bass-player. Sorry, your rock/pop/Jazz basists hve nothing on these guys technically, musically, improvisationally or any other way. They can do practically everything on the double-bass melodically, solistically and in other genres (just add distortion)

Tiësto - Elements of Life Was reminded of this track by another topic. off topic: how to embed?

If we're going by the number One song I couldn't live without, after seeing Tiesto live 3 times: " Elements of Life" by tiesto. It that doesn't make you wanna Dance/ party and have a good time, you need to seek professional help :P "Tranceport" by Tiesto a close second. After hearing Tiesto live, any other live music seems meaningless, be they Jay-Z, Deep Purple, Yo-yo Ma, Bobby Mcferin, Ane Sophie Mutter, or any other world class musician you can throw at me. Live, Tiesto is king. Tom and Jerry, hands down.

"Goldeneye" -Tina Turner "I'm raving" -Scooter "Adagio for strings" -Tiesto "Sweet child 'o mine" -Guns N' roses "Heaven" -Dj Sammy & Yanou "Radio/ Video" -System of a Down "where is the love" -Black eyed peas "Silence" -Delerium feat. Sarah Mclachlan "Faint" -Linkin' Park "Rhythm of the night" -Corona "Jerk it out" -Caesar's Palace "it wasn't me" -Shaggy "still Dre" -Dr. Dre "when I'm gone" -Eminem "Remember the name" -Fort minor "Hey ya!" -Outkast "the darkside" -Hypertraxx "Men in Black" -Will Smith I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. The 90s and early 2000s were truely epic, most songs remind me of a time when hip-hop wasn't super mainstream, and good music was popular too :P Edit: GOOD on you for putting Barber on that list! The tiesto version gives me a more nostalgic feeling personally, but that's probably because I knew of the song (original barber version) before it was immensely overused about 9/11

Well, there's a lot of good stuff out there, but the genres incorporate sooooo many different things. Tiesto to gigi D'agostino, groove coverage to Darude, Dj's abound, imogen Heap to Paul Oakenfold, Barthezz to Calvin Harris, Ian van Dahl to Benny Benassi. vital questions: lyrics or not? progressive or repetition? up-beat? To go clubbing, or to go partying (huge difference :P)? More house or more dance? More 90s or more 2007+ Britain? Remixes or originals? Do you want artists, or individual songs? Popular, or personal favorites? And most importantly: please give some examples so we can find what ball park we're in!

number one tip: choose activities you LIKE. that's the only way you will stick at it for years, retaining a healthy, flexible physique for old age as well. Have to train balance, and stretch for maneuvrability in the long term. It's a MUST, although it make make you look less "bulky" and "Greeker" in your beauty.

National tennnis championships. Tennis is so fun, but i hate loosing :P

Do cardio before training. It's the only way to avoid injury in the long term. Train with something you like. Use weight so you need to push yourself to get through 4 sets of 6-8 reps. Do not go lower weights for later sets, rather start lower down next time, you may increase weight the last set if you can pull through. do same amount of reps for each set. Ask for help at the gym to see what possibilities you have at your gym, gyms offer different things. Just be sure to train all major muscle groups: stomach, diagonal stomach muscles, back, diagonal back muscles, biceps, triceps, quadreceps, calfs both front and back, shoulders/ chest and your behind. You don't really need a gym either, as long as you work each muscle group 2-3 times a week. change around every day which groups you do so you always have at least 1 day between working out the same group, if you're doing 6-8 reps (which is most efficient for building and strength). Remember: cardio and endurance is a lot more important for your health, it's healthier to be fat and "in shape" running wise, than lean and out of shape!

Hehe, i just noticed this thread. I'll cut to the chase and just post personal records. I run for tennis conditioning. 40m (no reaction time) 5,4 (August 2009) 100m (with reaction time and blocks) 11,49 (august 2009) 400m: 53,26 set Dec 12th 2009 Mile: 4:37, set 14th Jan 2010 3km: 10:17 set Jan 21st 2010 (favorite distance) 5km: 17:58 set Dec 10th 2009 half-marathon: 1:27:54 June 2009 It's been too long since I've run an 8km, 10km, 15k or 20k to give an accurate time.

Ah! the topic of my dreams: A little about me, and why my advice on this topic isn't something I've made up myself: I'm 18, currently in traning for national championships in Tennis. I have coaches who go on about weight gain / diet all the day, every day. Nutritionists pester our every moves when we need to gain muscle, or loose fat. These are the general pointers I get from those people: To loose weight: 1. Don't eat after 5 pm 2. you WILL be hungry part of the time if you are loosing wieght. that's part of the game. 3. Drink at least 2 glasses of water before every meal. 4. Don't "cut carbs" or anything drastic. Just eat a little less of everything. 5. Eat less meat and more vegetables, less calories, more filling. 6. No juice, soda etc. A slice of lemon in your water if you're giving yourself a treat. 7. Alcohol destroys all possibility of weight gain. 7 calories per gram is more than pure protein, almost as much as pure sugar. Stay away from alchol if you want to loose weight, that's the easiest way of getting rid of excess ingested energy, that is ultimately stored in your body as fat. 7 and most important: your changes have to be permanent, or you will regain weight. Sense of hunger will go away after time. Exersise to loose weight: this is divided into 2 groups: active "calorie burning" and "increasing your metabolism" Increasing metabolism: You want to build muscle, as that burns more fat / calories while you do nothing. How do you build muscle effectively? weights, training your large muscle groups. that means: pullups, situps, pushups, free weight (if you're 15+ years old), wheelbarrows, jumping on one foot (with weight), back-ups etc. 6-8 repetitions, add weight so you get tired after 6-8 reps. Do a minimum of 4 sets of these 6-8 reps on every excersise. Do not go lower weight-wise, rather fail, and go lower next session. Work different muscle groups every day, 20-30 mins of strength training a day will get you the figure you want rapidly, and increase your metabolism so you can eat more once you've lost weight as well. calorie burning: This is where the running / jogging / simming /biking comes in. For running, you burn energy based on the distance you run, it doesn't matter if you go fast or slow. Generally: bodyweight *number of kilometers you run = calories burned. For other activities: again, it's the distance that's important, but calculating energy burned is a lot harder. Basically, go middle intensity (so you can keep going for at least 50 minutes at the same tempo). Hold a constant speed, don't jog then walk a little etc. To burn fat, you need to be at it for at least 90 mins, preferably 2 hours or more. That is when you've used most of the glycogen storage you have. when burning fat, acetone will be on your breath. This has a very distinct smell. However, few people burn fat directly, the important thing is to use more energy than you are eating, that will make you hungry. Good luck!

Norwegian pride! 4,8m citizens, viking power. There's no other explanation.

not only this, but we simply have no idea on the effects of our emissions are. If you can find scientists who argue otherwise, be very sceptical. Honestly though, it's a vicious cycle, the more we emitt, the harder it is to restore previous balance IF we find our emissions can be damaging. No-one would aprove a drug without its side-effects being known, heck cocaine was considered a good cough medicine. Wouldn't it be nice to do the research before the possibly globally changing effects are too late to stop? That approach at least gives me a sense of having some control of what you're doing. For the North American sceptics: Think of the energy security you could get if you go green. Carbon tax works. Norway is an oil nation. our oil is basically free, cause we get it ourselves. Carbon taxes make gas prices here $8,26 per gallon. We drive less than a quarter of the average American. If that money was designated, by law, to development of new technology for energy security and self-sufficiency, Both Canada and the US would be safer, more secure and locally more healthy to live. It would provide long-term jobs, and less uneccessary spending / consumption. That is healthy for the economy as well. What reasons are there for not going green, if it's done properly?
-
No. I intend on living for a long time, and want to look reasonably okay for all that time. I don't believe tattoos look good on old people with wrinkly skin. I'm not under the impression that people's bodyshapes remain unchanged for decades, and as such all tattoos look ugly, if you live an average length of life. Depressing, how cool they may be in the short term, but long term, getting them removed, and seeing decayed/ugly tattoos on people in their early 40s and onwards is too depressing for me to feel it's worth it in any way.

back to the original post: epistemologically, the discussion is immaterial. people know things by different ways: logic, reason, perception, emotion and faith. With perception, emotion and faith being subjective, you cannot prove "truths" logically or reasonably in attempts to disregard these three other ways of knowing. It makes no logical, or reasonable sense, thus the basis of your logic /reasoning is flawed, and in a vicious cycle, your argument paradoxically disproves itself, but also the counter-claim. that's something to wrap your head around, if we're getting back into philosophy!

If you aren't getting anything out of tax payments, your government isn't doing a good job. Consider USA: $900 000 000 000 (nine hundred billion) spent on the Iraq war. What a waste of your money. Think of all the security systems that could be bought for that price, and how many hundred billion would be left over? Think of the incredible national security you could have, or how much safer your american future would be with 900 billion less of a public deficit? No, here in Norway, all but the top 0,7% of earners get more value than if they were to buy the services publically for the same amount. If your government is "stealing from you", your government is not investing in the right things. Taxation is one of the best ways for consumers to get what they deserve, other than were republicans, nationalists, those who are too socialist, and those with malfunctioning economic policies rule. Look at the scandinavian model: average of about 40% income tax, yet you still get more than if you were to buy services publically. That's a success story. Low taxes are not always best, fairest, or what the rich earn most on.
