I think you make good points there, Ursa. I guess JAGeX just doesn't want to box anyone into a corner. If you only did certain quests, it would also have to balanced so you received similar rewards/xp from your "category" of quests. One interesting thing about Runescape is that 99.9% of the time, you can do something different. You can't redo quests, I realize, but you can get items you lost, change your armor, change your training focus, get more gp, etc. The choices you make don't force you into one way of playing. For example, if you train ranging to level 80, you can then switch to training magic to level 80 and there's no roadblocks. I'm pretty sure a lot of other games work that way, where you have a limited amount of skill points that you spread around. So, that would mean you couldn't get all 99s in Runescape. Maybe some of you would go for that, but I kinda like it the way it is. lpinkus

Hmm, the word "rune" is being used a lot :) I don't *think* rune armor/weapons have anything to do with magic runes. Runite is a metal, but rune essence is stone based, I assume. The same word is used, I guess. I'm surprised I never thought about this before. lpinkus

I agree with Outsanity. The lack of an overall storyline is what attracts me to the game. There are plenty of stories, by the way, that are tied into the quests. More than I care to know about, in fact :) Ever read about that guy who has lvl 1 in every stat but woodcutting and firemaking? He's not bored with a lack of storyline. Sorry to ask this off topic-question, but if you guys have quit Runescape why have you not quit these forums? I'm saying that a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I think it's valid. If I "quit" RS, I would only keep posting about it if I planned to return eventually. Do you guys plan on returning? I bet you are :) If you like, I can post a new thread about this. In this case, I don't think more details are necessary. It's a basic premise, but it has depth to it. I think it's already been well thought out in terms of balance: faster casting/greater chance of missing and lower xp. Well done. Now, if you want to come up with a name for new staves, runes, spells, etc., go right ahead. lpinkus

Ok, I wasn't going to say anything about spelling, but I've held back twice today :) It's "bestiary." Someone today also posted "It's spelt...." It's "SPELLED" :) "-Ed" occurs more often than "-lt." Blaze, the idea is fine, but remember that black is a special armor that can't be smithed, as I'm sure you know. That's why it's fun, because it's rare to obtain. The more ways there are to obtain it, the less fun it becomes. It also lowers the price. Buy, you sure like scmitars :) lpinkus

Zon, what you say is accurate. However, as some players ignore the slurs, other players read them and end up getting the wrong idea. They may start thinking those things are okay to say, exactly like a teen who hears their parents make similar remarks. Your point about many of these players being younger than 15 is also well taken. In their defense, I have met respectful and polite players who are 15 or younger, but they are still the most easily influenced. I ask everyone reading this to be responsible when you see these racist things being said. Report such activity right away. We all know JAGeX has thousands or reports to deal with, but the more people who report a specific incident, the better. Sorry you had to deal with these low-lifes, Catcher. Peace, man. lpinkus

The money is put up by players. So if player A puts a bounty on player B, they cannot "share" the reward if they're in in together, since player A put up the gp. However, it does make a good point. People could find a way to scam with this it's not done carefully. For example, Player A tells player B they should both put up 500k, a total 1 mil bounty on player C. But, player A and C are actually in on it together, so when player C is killed by player A, A and C share Player B's 500k. lpinkus

I pay five bucks a month. I follow all the rules. I don't PK. So, it's NOT my problem :) Again, I sympathize with you PKers who deal with runners and tele-ers, but those are not ban-able offenses. I agree it's not really "honorable" if a player you're fighting, meaning one who agreed to fight you, runs away/teles. Fine. However, I don't go to the wildy to fight, only for items. Rarely. If I'm coming through and you attack me, then I teleport, you have no right to call me a noob. Just so we understand each other :) On the other hand, I *guess* I would accept this for wildy for one day if you added Ardougne to the "safe" cities :) I'd just go ahead and thieve/craft that day. lpinkus

Great post, Hugh :) I'm 28, married w/o kids, but it's still great to hear about some older 'scapers. I chuckled at all the stuff I quoted. To be honest, tho, I really have no need for a RS gf :) Runescape is great for all ages! I think it could be even better, so I often make posts about player names, the chat filter, etc. And the knitting, awesome :) I bake. Pies, cakes, cookies. People can laugh about that, too, but wife doesn't cook at all. I do it all, and there are plenty of Italian men like me who do the same :) Thanks for posting. lpinkus

I agree. There are thousands of things that are better to experience as a human being than playing Runescape. No question about it. And playing in moderation is important, JAGeX says so on their website. Still, as far as this non-runescape related discussion goes, it should be on the "off-topic" board. First off, that post has only your opinion, not why you feel that way. Care to elaborate? Secondly, saying people who are annoyed by naughty names should be SHOT doesn't help anything. Shot. Sounds a bit severe, doesn't it? I realize it's just an expression, but it's uncalled for. JAGeX needs to keep a better eye on player names. You may be old enough to decide what's right and wrong, but for many, many players, the Runescape environment needs to be more sterile. Sure, younger ages already see plenty of adult things on TV, but they don't need to get them from Runescape, too. And someone posted earlier made a post about their name, something like "ovulating" and "[garden tool]." Well, that name may not reflect the kind of person you are, but I do think it's inappropriate. I have to ask, why is so necessary to make a name like that? "Cheeseman973" is kid of funny, too, but it's appropriate for everyone. As I said before, that sort joke is fine for adults who are up at 12:30 AM watching Conan O'Brien, but a 12 year old doesn't need to hear it. lpinkus

Not sure if this is where you got it from, but my friend has made Jedi in galaxies, and apparently a big thing in that game is to be a bounty hunter. He's told me some stories, wow. A similar would sure shake up RS. Out remembers correctly, I do not PK. I do find the idea interesting, tho, so I'll review the changes I quoted above... 1. Someone has to have done something "wrong." This is too general, I think. How in the world could JAGeX make sure someone had done something wrong. I've been killed in the wildy, and I didn't do anything wrong :) So, it's nice that you'd think of the innocent, but it you're in the wildy, you're fair game. 2) One bounty at a time, yes. 3) Not sure what this means. If you're saying that there are no current bounty assigments then you're assigned a NPC, well, that sounds like an extension of slayer. 4) A way to keep other players from stealing kills. Agreed. So, if player X has a bounty on his head, if he is killed a random player, not one who actually took the bounty assignment, then the bounty still stands. In addition,I would make these suggestions: 1) You can decide whether or not you wish to participate as one of the hunted. 2) The reward money is put up by players and is non-refundable. For example, Player X puts a bounty of 50k on the head of player Y. He may not get that money back. A player must take the assigment and kill player Y to get it. 3) More than one player may take the same assignment. This would get the ball rolling, although if it got really popular, there cound be a limit to the pursuers. 4) There may need to be *some* sort of Bounty Crystal, which would tell a hunter whether or not their target is actually in the wild. Just yes or no, not location. After all, this cannot occur in the non-wild. Lastly, would a player be able to check if there was a bounty on their head? lpinkus

Sorry to be so technical, but aren't runes made of stone? Smelting stone/rock doesn't quite sound right to me. There isn't rune ore, after all, it just goes from essence to being charged. Reread that: *rune* ore. *Runite* ore, yes. *Rune* ore, no :) Is this idea meant to "fix" the triangle? Just curious. lpinkus

I saw a player the other day, whose named contained the phrase "ballslap." I hope that's ok to say, that's not the player's full name. I also hope it's ok to say since it's nasty, but I'm doing it to make a point. I've similarly offensive names, even racist ones. Why are these allowed? I assume these people have entered names that the system doesn't "notice" as offensive, but does JAGeX at least review the new names each day and make those people change them? They ought to. And, if the phrase I wrote got blocked out in this topic, I understand. It should be! So why not in Runescape? lpinkus
