  1. So what? JAGeX started up a great, free online game. Then, people got really into it, and they realized they could be enterprising and extend the game for those who would pay. So, now it's a business. Did people expect to have an expansive, free game *with* continual updates forever? lpinkus
  2. I think you'll see many of your suggestions come to fruition in the future. Near future, maybe. I've always agreed with less clicking, too, provided that the time spent is the same. lpinkus
  3. If a monster called me a noob, I think I'd have to stop playing for a while :) lpinkus
  4. Monte :) And hot dogs often contain beef and chicken, too. Well, and other mysterious ingredients... Examine mysterious fillers : Yecch, do they really put this stuff in hot dogs? lpinkus
  5. I appreciate your thinking; it takes creativity to wonder about why the strings on amulets don't get tattered and such :) However, let it be. We've got plenty of variables in RS as is :) lpinkus
  6. How does this thread ever get started? And it happens once every week or two, someone complaining about the lack of f2p updates. The answer is so obvious. Imagine you visit the park everyday after school to hang with friends, play sports, etc., whatever. Say there's a water fountain there that everyone can use. Now, say there's also food concession stands that sell ice cream, hot dogs, etc., but you have no cash. So, you complain that it's not fair, that you should be able to get free food since just for using the park. Doesn't make sense, does it? Well, that's somewhat what it's like when f2ps complain that they get no updates. Not the best metaphor, but it's the first one I thought of. lpinkus
  7. So what if you knew a lot of offensive language at 11 years old? Does that mean everyone should? Of course not! Just because you don't think that's a big deal doesn't mean everyone does. The word is spelled CENSOR. Maybe if people spent less time trying to spell offensive words, they would be better at spelling the non-offensive words. Now that's a cheap shot, maybe, but I've argued this point for a long time and I'm getting tired of people that insist they should be allowed to use whatever language whenever they want. Runescape is not your high school hallways or wherever else you hang out with your friends. It's a PUBLIC game. JAGeX has to keep the interests of ALL players in mind. That means that profane language will be filtered for the sake of those who are offended. The alternative, no filter, means that people who do not wish to be exposed to profanity (even if they know those words already!), have to suffer just so people can type nasty things. The filter is necessary. Live with it. lpinkus
  8. When you interact with a player, observe his language, say a few things back, and see what happens. If he asks you to give him your armor because he's poor, he's a noob. If he asks you a reasonable question about an item or quest, respond nicely or say "sorry, but I'm busy." Then, if you're curious, go ahead and ask his age. Age does not matter. lpinkus
  9. Agreed, but one strike and you're out. lpinkus
  10. If they're not able review all new names daily, then I agree, you should not be banned. If there is inconsistency, then that has to be fixed. I saw a few more nasty names last night, so this thing ain't fixed yet. lpinkus
  11. I always liked this idea (it's been posted before, by the way). Still, I'm not holding my breath. lpinkus
  12. I think it could work, as there are plenty of places to train. However, the lack of many restrictions does add realism to the game. Even if you're a low level, you can *attempt* to kill something way stronger. If you were restricted to only fight things fairly near your level, things would get a little boring. Anyways, I guess I'm not agreeing or disagreeing. Some help I was :) lpinkus
  13. I like those adjustments. As far as telling me to hush, I have no idea what you're talking about :) lpinkus
  14. I'd just like to repeat what I said less that 24 hours ago... "I once started a topic called "beggars at any level," which related a story of a level 75 who was asking me for free things. Some people posted that they had even been begged by level 100s. So, just as there may be beggars at any level, there may be other noobliness at any age." Still, The argument has seemingly continued. If the younger players are saying "don't call me an idiot just because I'm younger" while the older players say "most younger players are idiots," then I side with the younger players. If they express their concern about being generalized in a logical, appropriate manner, I think you should give "them" the benefit of the doubt. I'm 28, but I read what people say, regardless of age. On the other hand, if the younger players say "I'm not an idiot, I'm better than you anyways, you're the idiot" while the older players say "I never called you an idiot," well, the older folks get the medal. I think the problem here is just a lack of communication. Better yet, a lack of *comprehension.* Don't just scan over what the other guy says. Read it and UNDERSTAND it. lpinkus
  15. Neat stat. How'd you figure that? lpinkus
  16. Just to clarify, I never said I was worried about f2p "leeching" or anything like that. It just occured to me one day that people could play f2p forever and still have a pretty cool time at it. I'm not of the opinion that it should change, I just wondered if it ever would. lpinkus
  17. Funny to someone old enough to understand it. And if you're under 15 and understand it, well, you shouldn't. lpinkus this might come as a surprise to you but children know what their genitals are called Well that just shows that YOU don't actually understand what ballslap means. And there is no way I'm explaining it here. Hint: you're wrong, it's not about how you call a body part. Jagex is just inconistent. They don't tolerate these names yet they have no way of checking them and ban when people report others. That causes a problem for long-time players. Anyone saw the petition by xwifebeaterx in General on this forum ? Plus in his case, there was the second meaning of wifebeater, which is the name of a type of shirt. They didn't stop the players when they were a small company and now they expect to ban anybody as they see fit. Not quite that easy, Jagex. I also like how they keep saying that they'll introduce name-change one day. They've said that for years and they've never done it. Doubt they care. Doesn't inspire confidence though. You might be right that JAGeX is inconsistent on this sort of thing, and I assume it's due to the sheer number of players, which increases daily. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed. And, just for the record, calling a certain T-shirt a "wife beater" is not giving it a second meaning. The term is still offensive! It just implies that the style of shirt is often worn by mean who abuse their wives. So, no, the phrase "wife beater" does not become approriate just because there's a T-Shirt named after it. lpinkus
  18. Well said, Duke. The anonymity is a big factor. As far as JAGeX having full power to rid the game of racism, scamming and such, I'd be interested to know if they really did have that power. I would really like them to do so if they could, but I just assumed that with so many players, it would be pretty hard to do. I don't have any idea, technically, how accurate that is. I've often said I'd be glad to spend several of my runescape hours a week looking out for this kind of behavior , but for now I just report it when I see it. lpinkus
  19. Sorry, but that was funny. "Let's not turn this into a flame war...oh, but you are the biggest moron mankind has ever seen" :) Well folks, I once started a topic called "beggars at any level," which related a story of a level 75 who was asking me for free things. Some people posted that they had even been begged by level 100s. So, just as there may be beggars at any level, there may be other noobliness at any age. You want to argue that most of these noobly people are less than 15? Fine, but it's not that important. You don't usually get harassed long enough to even find out someone's age, and you still end up feeling annoyed. Also, if a 12-13 year old seems a bit immature, well, there is an age difference! There's no denying that. If you take someone that age and tell them to give a presentation at their dad's office, it may not go so well. Yes, there are general differences between the age groups, I don't see why it's discriminatory would to establish that. After all, if you're 12-13 and you DO say things appropriate for your dad's office meetings, well, you'll probably end up on Kids Say the Darndest Things with Bill Cosby. How about "Newbs Say the Darndest Things?" lpinkus
  20. I always wanted to start a similar topic, but I keep forgetting. The idea is fine if it means less clicking, but not less time. That way, nobody levels up any faster, yet your mouse will last a couple of months longer :) I realize cooking isn't that hard as it is, I don't see any reason why this change shouldn't happen. lpinkus
  21. Nice. The latest JAGeX poll asked why kind of new equipment people wanted. I suppose you'd say range :) I'm glad you understand that the rocks must go in your inventory/be wielded, btw. I posted for about a month on an idea about "throwing rocks." They wanted it to be a ranging option, but the rocks would never go in your inventory. No, you can't just click and throw! :) lpinkus
  22. So, if you're under 15 you should know all the slang names for the human body's private parts? OK, if you say so. I didn't know the rule. Yes, "ball" is slang. Sorry to be crass, but you don't say that to a doctor, now do you? Listen, many of you guys are obviously not bothered by the names or chat you read when you play. Fine, but you're not the only ones who play. We're not discussing some obscure, unpoliced website. Runescape is popular worldwide to all ages, and JAGeX knows to keep it clean. I have some follow-up news, by the way. I messaged JAGeX and they promptly replied that they were investigating both of the accounts of which I informed them. Yes, we all know they're busy and that they have form replies, but they did mention "both" of the names. I'll be checking soon to see if those player names still exist, and I'll continue to message them whenever I see a similarly offensive name. Again, just because you're not offended doesn't mean everyone won't be. So, just use a clean name and have your fun some other way. lpinkus
  23. I've known lots of people from drug/alcohol influenced families, so I sympathize with how your life may have been. Now, however, I'd say it's time to go ahead and live life as it comes at you. I still don't understand why quitting Runescape would make everything better. I'd say washing dishes is still a bit more boring. That said, I *guess* it's your prerogative to continue posting here, as I've seen you do plenty of ever since you quit :) Bear in mind, however, that your ideas will become outdated as Runescape ages. lpinkus
  24. It's been suggested man, in an attempt to make runescape more like real life. In real life, however, banks invest your money and pay you interest from what they net. I don't think JAGeX is interested in investing our gp. So, no :) lpinkus
  25. Well, you're making my point for me. We don't need to see you saying those kinds of things in this forum, and we don't need to see it in Runescape, either. You can be sarcastic all you like. As far as your friend goes, the only thing JAGeX did wrong was not ban him sooner. By the way, JAGeX makes the game you play and post about. Why continue to play it/post about it if you feel they do such a terrible job? lpinkus
