Another Desktop Computer Topic - Build Complete! Pics etc, last posts

So would any psu with ~650 watts be good then? When I search for gtx 460 on newegg, there's a bunch of different ones. For example, what's the difference in these two, and the one you posted? One's only $129 after the rebate. Would I need hdmi outs for these? It doesn't look like any of them have one. I got the 7 ultimate from my school last year for $7, so they're probably part of that or something else. There's a limit of one per student though. I could probably get one of my friends to get it for me. I think I'll just get a cheaper hd until the prices drop more, and then I can get a ssd later. What about this one... 500GB, 7200 rpm, 16mb cache, sata 6gb/s, for $110? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769 What about intel vs amd processors? Most places I've read say that intel are better, but you get more power for price with amd. Is the new sandybridge i5 overkill for me? Here's another combo I saw on newegg, how's this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.759542 -
I've been wanting a desktop computer for a while now, mainly for gaming and school things. I'm in my first year of a Computer Engineering major, and I thought that building my own computer would be a good experience. Right now, I have a macbook pro from 2 years ago, running Lion and 7 Ultimate through bootcamp, but I only have about 2gb left on my windows partition. With Christmas coming around, I thought this would be a good time. I'd be looking at around $500 probably. These are a couple DIY combos on newegg I found, and I think this is what I'd be looking for. I'm not nessecarily just deciding between these two, they're just examples. Like I said, I'm mainly going to be using it for gaming, programming, and school stuff. I'd like to be able to run BF3, Skyrim, etc at mid-high settings if possible. [hide]http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.692922&cm_sp=DIY_PC_Combos-_-692922-_-Combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.755265&cm_sp=DIY_PC_Combos-_-755265-_-Combo [/hide] How would those work for what I want? Is there anything I'm missing from that list that I would need to buy extra? I have a windows 7 ultimate OEM disc that I got for my bootcamp partition, would that work to install on a new computer? If not, I can most likely get another one, if the OEM will install and not have to be an upgrade. I didn't put any list of parts together myself, because I don't really know much about cases, power supplies, cords I would need, and video cards. I wouldn't want to buy anything that wouldn't work together. So, any advice for my first build? Thanks! EDIT: I just watched all three parts of Newegg's how to build a computer videos. I'll watch more later, I'm just a little worn out after 2.5 hours of it :P Other questions that I've thought of since are about hard drives and monitors. How much better performance does a ssd give? I have a 1TB WD external hard drive. Would it be alright to get a 80GB SSD, and just use my external for data storage? Or, what about a 80GB SSD and like a 500GB internal hard drive? What about the hybrid ones, like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148591 where it's 500Gb for $160? I have a 32" hdtv that I'm currently using for my monitor of my laptop when I'm at my dorm. It only goes up to something like 1360x1000 resolution. I bought it last February. What are my options for monitors? Could I just use the tv, and then I can still play xbox and watch tv on it? Should I sell the tv, and buy a 27-32" monitor? If I did that, could I play xbox on it? Should I keep the tv, and still buy a monitor?

Just wanted to give an update on this. I didn't upgrade my hard drive on my computer, because I didn't have anything I could put the files that are already on my computer on for temporary storage. I bought a 1Tb Wd portable hard drive. It was formatted NTFS, and the guy at the store said I needed it to be FAT32 to be able to read/write on both windows and mac. So I reformatted the hard drive, and put all the installation files back on. Right now I'm putting a bunch of files from my mac os on it, and after that I'll test it on windows. The only thing I don't like about having it FAT32 is that it wont backup my mac os or use time machine.

Pretty big update! First off... Fail cropping, but you get the idea. Here's a pretty big achievement! I was wanting to get more into slayer, and i decided to range it. To do this, I decided to make some iron darts (for fletching xp too). Didn't have a specific number or goal in mind. I kept on mining, starting at 45. I got to 60 without even getting bored! it's my only 60+ skill, and even 50+ for that matter. I also did a couple stars to get cash... which I bought rune platelegs with!! Then, I smelted around 800 of the bars and made darts. I don't have enough rubies right now to do all 5k ore that I mined. I got varrock easy diaries done before I started mining, to make it faster. I also got 40 crafting preparing a lot of urns for mining/smithing. Here's a picture of varrock diary prep... one of the only time I'll EVER trade. Also, it's with my lover and fellow diy'er, so nbd right?? With the fruits of my mining labor, I decided to go kill a couple fire giants 4tehlulz, and a chance at a rune skimmy. I was only 37 range when I started, and it was taking around 90 darts for each kill. I was getting discouraged around 7 kills, and I thought just a couple more then I'll leave. Then, on the 9th kill... I was VERY happy, as you can see in the chat :) no more rune long! Then, I got 40 range on my slayer task... Some other things I've done since the last post was to finish Watchtower for the magic xp. I needed to get 47 to +2 boost to 49 to enchant rings of forging. I also did Animal Magnetism, to get the attractor which makes range so much easier. Did Creature of Fenkenstrain. I also got 914 total, leveling mostly all my skills. I haven't been on due to work and family issues, but I'm done with work for the summer and going on vacation :D I'm not sure if I'll play over vacation or not. -
1. Get 43 magic 2. Superheat ^ there's a guide

This morning I did... uhhhh.... I forgot  I think it was some slayer, but not 100% on that. The big achievement of the day was 42 summoning, starting at 1! I did it for essence implings, for laws, but after 20 minutes there I didn't have one law :-? OH well. Tomorrow will be construction, summoning, and hopefully all skills 20+! -
Ty :P 1 Left until Deadlist Catch :D Gluckwunch! haha :P

That's the best way to find your upgrades, completely randomly. Just like my rune hatchet from a level 3 clue, never been so happy for a 7k item from a 20 minute clue before xD Keep up the good work Blake! :D The day I find a rune hatchet, I will throw a party or something haha  And thanks, I'm working to be as good as you <3: Didn't do much today. Just did some slayer this morning, I can't remember if I did anything else special. I got an Otherworldly Being task, though! They drop addy hatchets. Hopefullly I'll get lucky. Tonight after work, I made a ton of runes to mage them with. Doing this got me 30 runecrafting, my first ranked skill!! Pretty happy to finally be on the board. Oddly, when RC got ranked, like 9 other skills showed up on the Swiftkit Highscores, even though they aren't ranked. Wonder how that works... Oh well, I'm happy with it :D -

I started off the day by still trying to get those damn bronze boots. I got around 35 range at cave crawlers, before I finally got them! Next, for the clue, I needed 35 agility. I didn't want to go to the gnome course (even for 2 levels), so I did Creature of Fenkenstrain to unlock skullball, and got 35 there. It only took 4 laps. After that I needed to do the barcrawl to get into the barbarian course (for the clue location), which was kind of fun :) I was finally ready to do my clue! After the barbarian course, I just had to search a crate in ardounge. Here are the rewards... WOOT!!! Big upgrade for me! Upgraded my steel kite to addy, and accuracy amulet to power. A couple runes for use too :^_^: After all that excitement, I went to do my Moss Giant task. I didn't finish it, but I met a new friend, got some range, hp, attack and slayer levlels, and 700 total!! This was exactly one week after account creation. After planting some farming stuff, it's time to go to bed. Not much playtime due to work today. -
You finally made a blog, woot! Good luck on you're goals, I know you'll go far.

Well, the day is done, along with a lot of quests! Following from the above post, I mined around 1k pure essense. That got me 41 mining, which means rune picks! I went and bought one straight away. After crafting some minds and airs, I was ready to do the quest. It took me 3 tries to kill the dragon as I was only 40 30 30 melees in mithril armor, but I did it! I can wield rune plates! Which I bought of course, from Oziach for 65k. Next thing on my shopping list are rune legs from the champ's guild, costing me 64k. I really want to finish my level 2 clue. I need 30 range for it, along with bronze boots and 35 agility (bar crawl). I went to kill cave crawlers to train range and get the boots, but that failed as I forgot antipoisons. Since they're so damn far away from everything, but right next to a fairy ring, I thought why not?!? So, I did priest in peril (gaining access to mortania - woot!), nature spirit, and jungle potion. After that was Fairy Tale Part 1. It took a while, but the boss was a joke. I killed him at 45 combat in my mith/addy/steel/rune armor mixture, and he's lvl 111. After starting Part 2, I can now use fairy rings!!! Best transportation there is, now I can get everywhere. Huge milestone. I also got 1-19 farming from the reward, along with prayer, attack, hp, defence, crafting and herblore levels from the prereq quests. I still haven't got my bronze boots; that's tomorrow. Here's a stat pic update. My bank is pretty boring; I tend to use stuff right as I get it. Also, 58qp. -

Since 77-80 mining is around 10k coal, you should save 5k of that iron to make cannonballs, or just steel knives/darts. Since you will have the coal anyways, why not?
