... Not really. There's a difference between saying "I believe homosexuality is right/wrong because of X" and "[bleep]s should die." The occasional rage in this thread is because of arguments against someone using a completely idiotic reasoning.

Indeed, humans are very poor when it comes to understanding statistics and the truths it can reveal (or rather the false conclusions it can point out). I encourage everyone to learn a little about statistics and how scientific conclusions are validated with statistics. It's a great tool to use in pointing out and dismissing crappy conclusions. This. I used to think correlation implied causation, but then I took a statistics class. I'm not sure if it helped, though. Also, deathdrow, you're an awesome friend.

I feel a little odd posting something like this online, but I just need to tell someone. A couple days ago, I started cutting myself. Most of the cuts are hidden, but some are on my wrist. Honestly, I don't know why I cut in such a visible spot, but I think a part of me wants someone to notice. I'm tired of being invisible.

That's your belief, don't state it as a fact. So when did you choose to be straight? When did you choose who/what you're attracted to?

This. Sellers aren't responsible for the idiocy of the buyers.

It's also possible to win the lottery. Doesn't mean it happens often. And to everyone saying that they basically leave them at the altar, I don't believe that for a second. If you're marrying them, you've obviously spent (most likely) a few years with them and you're ready to spend the rest of your life together. I don't doubt that you would be mad, but I don't think you would be this cruel to someone you completely and totally love.

I don't think you should tempt people like that.

I think I would, tbh. I mean, I'm probably already infected, so what's the point of going ape [cabbage] about it?

ITT: People who like to pretend they have a degree in economics. Also, economist is a nine letter word for "cheap." (I heard that from my micro teacher lol)

Good point, I actually know a guy who looks a lot like me and would probably have one, although it would be a crappy fake one too... Its really ashame, my brother is 20 and we look nothing alike. I was just randomly lurking, so this is a bit off topic, but have you tried chalking your ID? I don't know what Canadian IDs look like, but it might be easier than getting a decent fake. Also, (again I don't know if this applies in Canada) you could try faking a temporary license as (at least in NY) they're just paper and don't have your picture.

I think it looks pretty cool bro. Cannot unsee!

This. Though I do find it easier to voice my opinion online than irl. The anonymity makes me feel more comfortable, too.

What about the items that are frequently bought in bulk by actual players? Why should player X's purchase of 20 raw monks influence the price more than player Y's purchase of 20k raw monks? All a system like that would do is passively create ceilings or floors, rather than the directly like Jagex is doing now. Not to mention it would probably be even easier to manipulate markets.

I knew someone was gonna make a joke about hex. I thought about doing an inb4, but decided against it. Dammit.

It looks like something went horribly wrong when they were making them.

But that reasoning is reliant on (false) assumptions. Not all blacks/hispanics are underprivileged. Not all white families have money coming out the [wagon]. Assuming population A is made up of whites and population B is made up of blacks is just as racist as telling a black guy to go home to his purple drank and watermelons. I agree people should be given funds for college if they're underprivileged, but assuming that because someone is black, they're underprivileged, is wrong. As is the idea behind foundations like the United Negro College Fund.

No problem. Everyone's new once. :)

Exactly. This isn't a bug, it's a security feature.

I didn't overanalyze it - it's just simple math. I realize that chances vary very widely, and I quoted my source for the min/max (guide for managing your kingdom). Even with a standard distribution, there is still an average. It may not be exactly the average of min and max but it's going to be pretty darn close. Put it this way - my numbers would have to be off by at least 33% for me to be wrong about herbs being most profitable, and I know they're not THAT off. Saying "gaussian distribution" or "binomial distribution" is meaningless without some variables to go into it. Both of those vary widely depending on their respective inputs. (I certainly hope you're not just throwing big words around, as I have a math degree and know exactly what they are). The only assumption I'm making is that the distribution curve is roughly symmetical around the mean, which is a very good assumption, especially if each herb has a specific % probability. Who's to say that the maxes aren't outliers, though? And there might not be any minimum amount of herbs you would collect. Maybe the 13 irits was just luck, and the average is actually 6. There's really nothing that supports your conclusions. I seriously doubt that you have a math degree, because if you did, you would know that this "data" isn't reliable at all.

There's even less proof that it's a choice, though. And based on your idea of what causes it, that we're born with a tendency towards it though there's still a choice, actually supports the idea that it's genetic. Take, for example, a child who loves chocolate. They do have the choice of eating only chocolate, however they aren't aware of the consequences of it. Saying it's their fault for eating tons of chocolate and getting an upset stomach wouldn't make sense because they didn't know any better. They knew what they liked and, although there's a choice in acknowledging it, it's instinct to pursue it. Also, the idea that someone can't help being a pedophile makes a lot of sense. Pedophilia, in essence, is simply a sexual fetish; it's no different than a foot or leather fetish. I'm not condoning pedophilia, because acting on it is a choice, but simply having that fetish isn't.
