I think OP's point was actually that the presence of the protean items in the first place makes it too easy to get loads of xp for players willing to buy keys, not that he did not want to receive them. But perhaps sometime he will return to tell us.

Cashing out TH items is in general a ripoff because the payout is so low, and in general that's precisely why it is so low. The lucky items are one notable exception, under some circumstances.

It costs 1k runespan points per pouch, and you get 42 uses out of it. I would say it's not a bad investment, as it helps balance gaining faster xp as you level Runecrafting up to 99 (or higher, depending on your ambitions), and can help you make money. I'm not an expert on money making methods and Runecrafting in general but if that's what you want to do, I'd so go for it. If you're asking for a raw calculation to maximize your gp/hr..probably not. How long does it take you to earn 1k runespan points? With that information I could be better informed as to further details. It also depends of course on whether you are using the small through giant pouches as well.

I can't say I've heard of anything like it either. I don't suppose he is willing to back up/create a restore point and then try it again? If you're going to download it make sure to use the official source and not ads off Google or something.

Is the hard drive excessively full..? And is it Windows or another operating system? I'm just as puzzled right now but maybe check on whether the hard drive was full, or try deleting the Jagex cache and running RuneScape again...if that still fails maybe using the downloadable client.

Can you give us some more information (specs, operating system, etc.) on your friend's computer so people might be able to help out better? I have a hard time believing that RuneScape used up all that disk space on any computer unless it's very old. Of course it is possible I suppose that he filled the hard drive with other junk and so it just crashes often but I don't find that likely. Can he run other games and stuff just fine or are there problems with those too?

Well I would say download the browser you want from another computer onto a flash drive, and then put it in the other computer and install it once you are sure everything is clear. Make sure you get the right version and everything for the computer you want to install it onto though :).
