I agree. Trading won't be ruined, it will just be centralized. EDIT: To keep the inconveniences to a minimum Jagex could place Grand Exchange branches in major cities that will all be linked to one another. This way you won't have to go to Varrok every time you need to buy something.

They could sell to the GE, yes, but they can't go and sell the gold they make on RWT sites. EDIT: The only autoers we would need to worry about would be those who collect materials and sell so they can personally buy expensive items.
-
I'm not fond of losing direct trading either, but if securing the game requires the loss of some liberties I'm ok with it. I know this sounds like the Patriot Act (or Articles of Allegiance for V for Vendetta fans), but if removal of direct trade and dropping will stop bots and gold sellers then I feel it is something we need to accept. Naturally the market will go haywire for a period of time, but it will even out and we will adapt, just like when construction was released.

Perhaps they could retain player to player training, but only for certain quest specific items. Another possibility would be for a cut scene to be put in those quests where the 2 players are shown handing off the items to one another. There are ways to make this work.

Does Summoning mean a NEW high Combat Level?
tuttle43 replied to kieranread's topic in General Discussion
I would like to see summon creatures that are used for combat be separated into defensive on offensive. If this were put in place I would use the defensive creatures while I runecraft through the abyss. -
I thought the pest control update was one of the best. A mini game should never replace actual combat when it comes to training. RuneScape would be better off if PC was never released, but what Jagex did was almost as good.
-
I would hardly call the German language release a bad update. Rather, think of it as just the first language update of several to come. I'm certain that we will see French, Dutch, and Spanish language servers in the future. By releasing more language servers, Jagex is expanding the size of their customer base. I personally can't wait to play on a French server.

Ahem.... New thing for next year is summoning...
tuttle43 replied to Goldenjkered's topic in General Discussion
The location he is talking about is the stone ring north of Falador, directly above the park. -
Ahem.... New thing for next year is summoning...
tuttle43 replied to Goldenjkered's topic in General Discussion
In the development diary Jagex said that they already thought about the lag issues and figured out a way to make it work. I am very excited for this update and have every confidence that Jagex will implement it the best way possible. If summoning does use life runes I hope I have the runecrafting level for it :) -
The beastiary entry for Dust Devils lists what runes they drop, but some of the runes listed are not dropped by them. This is the current entry: Fire(37-150), Soul(2,5), Chaos(2,5), Death(1), Nature(2) I have killed at least 20,000 dust devils while training my attack to 99 and have never once received a death rune or a nature rune. I have also only received chaos runes as a drop of 5. The entry should read: Fire(37,150), Soul(2,5), Chaos(5)

I do not quibble with Qeltar's argument. The cap they set was arbitrarily low and there are much better methods for dealing with real world trading. While FooK-A-Ji found it tasteless, I am more reacting from a strictly rhetorical standpoint. Pulling out 9/11 as an example weakens the argument. That event is such a powerful and polarizing event in American culture. It is an event, which has been spun by many groups to so many ends that it is losing its power as a valid example. It is an example that should be used very very very sparingly. Qelter I respect you, but you lost me at 9/11. I understand where you're coming from now :)
-
I would have to agree with this. That event is such a big thing, that mentioning it as a part of a debate, is very close to Godwin's law territory. The author is not using 9/11 tastelessly, or 9/11 at all to make his point. He is referencing the actions that the U.S. government has taken since then to make the country "more safe and secure", just like Jagex is placing a 3k cap on stakes. There was nothing tasteless at all about the author's choice of content.
-
That was a very good article, I enjoyed reading it. I have to say that I am on the side of the stakers, although I have never staked myself. I would be very upset if Jagex were to remove dust devils from the game, the same way stakers are upset over the 3k stake limit.
-
I'm sure that Jagex will raise the staking cap in the near future, they just need to find a way to prevent RWT through the duel arena in the meantime.

Monday Poll: Have you ever been scammed by a friend?
tuttle43 replied to MPM's topic in General Discussion
I have never had a friend scam me, mostly because the only people I would trust with items are my real life friends. I find it very hard to be friends with someone I have never met in real life. I can trust with people I meet on runescape, but never enough to let them borrow an item. -
woot! I got it installed. I ended having to go into my registry editor and change some file paths, it's all good now. Thanks for the help guys. :D

I think if a f2p player can get 99 in any skill they deserve a skill cape. Leveling to 99 as a free player must be very difficult and they deserve recognition, regardless of whether or not they pay $5 a month.

The Skillcape Outfit Competition v.3! Post Your Outfit!
tuttle43 replied to Adicolorz's topic in General Discussion
I'll be posting my attack cape outfit by Thanksgiving weekend. I'm hoping I get a d chain drop before then (I started killing dusties at 93 cb and I'm 109 at the moment, still no chain). -
I'm trying to install the client right now, but I have run into a roadblock. I'm getting an error message that reads: "Error 1324. The folder path 'My Pictures' contains an invalid character." Can anyone help me out with this? I can't find any answers on Ventrilo's site. My operating system is Windows XP.

The most logical location for the blood altar would have be the Drakan Castle in Morytania. Also, it used to be that when you got 77 runecrafting there would be a message saying you can now craft bloods, it has been removed though. To anyone saying that the blood altar would have to be in high level wilderness, I completely disagree. There would be pkers camped outside the altar day and night, making blood crafting very impractical. While we're at it, lets move all magic trees and shark fishing spots out there too. I agree that making high level items should have a degree of difficulty, just don't make it too impractical to do.

Bind - The Most Useless Spell Ever?
tuttle43 replied to Saradomin_Mage's topic in General Discussion
The spell could be used as a method of escape if a player were being pursued. Like you said, fire off the spell and run for your life. -
To answer your first question you must put yourself in the place of the other player. They are obviously new to minigame and most likely have not been playing the game for very long either. A higher level player comes along and offers advice to the new guys but in their arrogance they blow you off. They are obviously headstrong and feel they can fend for themselves, regardless of how little they actually know. This brings me to my main point, with the introduction of pest control the combat system was severely compromised. Players could now gain fast levels (which is what you want), but this had the effect of people with less in-game experience gaining false experience. It used to be that a player could see a level 100+ and think, "hey, that player must have spent a lot of time leveling, they have to be experienced." Now we have players running around with levels that do not reflect their true knowledge of the game. I know combat level isn't a fail proof method of recognizing knowledge, there are many skillers who are extremely knowledgeable of the game, but nonetheless, combat level was a good indication of experience. In regard to "even though im at least 10 lvl's higher then them", if you have been training at Pest Control then you very well could be a "noob". There is no way to know how much time a player has spent training outside of PC, therefore it is difficult to distinguish between a level 80 who trained on guards, hill giants, and lesser demons; a level 80 character could have just as easily trained to 40 then ran off to pest control. I am confident that you are a fairly experienced and nice player, seeing how you offered to give pointers to players who seemed to be having a difficult time and that is very admirable, I wish there were more players with that kind of courtesy. As for me, I'll be killing dust devils to train my attack to 99, hopefully I will find a dragon chainbody before then. You may like the fast way to a high level, I on the other hand will stick with a more classic approach.

No, let's keep everything hard! Seriously, what's the achievement in switching spellbooks by walking long distances vs being able to tele to the place where you can switch? If someone said, say, "make training x skill even easier" I might have an objection, but objecting to simple conveniences like this is just silly. I dont think their should be a telly for this, if your pking think how easy it would be to go out and tb someone and then telly to pyramid get ancients and telly back and then start bursting/barraging them......they would have no chance to do anything.....cant telly, cant run, cant fight back unless they brought range gear.....basically their screwed. I dont pk much, but if this telly would come into place then their should be a time limit between tellies just like the home teleport...10-20 mins That is already feasible with the Pharaoh's scepter, but also impossible to pull off. In the time that you have teleported, prayed at the pyramid, teleported to where ever you were, the other player would have plenty of time to run and if they were entangled they would still have time to log off. In all of my experience I have never seen this happen once. If they are part of a team they should have thought ahead and brought a modern mage and an ancient mage. Adding a closer teleport to Lunar Isle would not hurt either, all it would do is allow players to get back to skilling faster. If you're worried about a player teleporting after TBing and entangling you to go switch to Lunar so he can use Vengeance then you still have nothing to worry about. Lunar has only one wilderness teleport and it isn't all that convenient for the task you're concerned about. My question is this: How can adding a teleport closer to Lunar Isle have any kind of NEGATIVE IMPACT on the game? I promise you that you will not find an answer, unless you think convenience will hurt the game (which I highly doubt). [off topic] Congratulations Solidus_77 on achieving 99 runecraft, that is very admirable. Well done. [/off topic]

I won't move my house to Rellekka because it's very convenient for me to have it in Taverly. I understand the Rellekka house portal is an option, but there should be an alternative, it can't hurt. The Ancients pyramid has the pharaoh scepter and the camulet, Lunar could use one more option, even if it's Lunar Isle teletabs.
-
Any teleport closer to Lunar Isle would be greatly appreciated. I would love to have Jagex put a fairy ring in Rellekka or Pirate's Cove. In addition, making it easier to switch spell books will not have a negative impact on the game, that is just ridiculous and pessimistic.
